We need a new thread.
All 3 episodes are out, but no subs.
Apparently, this project existed to see how viable an actual Cyborg 009 or Devilman anime would be in this day and age.
The OVA sold 2379 copies on its first week so far (BD, Limited BD, DVD of Vol.1 combined). Reception in the theatres garnered 3.88/5 at Yahoo movies.
This seems good enough, so we'll just have to wait and see if they come up with individual projects in the years to come.

I don't think those after credits scenes are sequel hooks at all. It feels more like a fan service in a "the story will be continued" kinda of way. Especially in how both are tied to the series's endings. And we already had a pretty nice adaptation of Underground Empire of Yomi in the Cyborg 009 2001 series.

Sounds likeheadcanon to me.
The main cast being redesigned while a lot of the side characters and minor characters are full-on Nagai or Ishinomori is really, really strange to me.
But, otherwise, it's pretty fun so far. I'm about half-way through the first episode. I'm digging the OST though. And that Jinmen scene was pretty good.

Well technically the ending of 009 would be God's War, leaving aside any arguments about the Onodera version for here.
Thing is, Jun Kawagoe seems to prefer Yomi as the original end spot going by how the 2001 series ended, minus the God's War stuff in its own bubble. Then there's what was said about how the OVA takes place before Yomi and Armageddon.
So while a lot of fan reviews wanted a direct sequel, I don't think it's feasible in actually seeing the end scenes. More likely, a new adaptation of either property, hopefully.

Onodera's ending is the official one, Jun Kawagoe's Yomi is the preferred one.

It is feasible, but the problem is that sequels are almost never a good idea, because viewers assume they have to watch the first "season" before they can watch the "second" and this already leaves out a lot of potential customers.
If they do make a sequel to this, then they need to present it as something standalone.

Ryo's design looks like how Ryo used to look in the beginning of the devilman before Nagai changed him to a woman's head inserted in a man's body.

Yeah, I could see them maybe wanting to show how different the Ryo and Satan identities are.

Then on the Cyborg 009 side, 001 reports of a "Demon god", and we see Skull with the Generalissimo statue symbolic of the Yomi arc. The cyborgs all go back into action with their Super guns, and it ends. It seems like what the 2001 anime did with the last "God's War" episode, showing them ready to go into battle and leaving us with a message that their fight will go on.

Has anyone taken notice just how amazing his death is? Akira cuts off his snake dick, Pazuzu reels in pain, Akira kicks him and he drops his decapitated cock off a cliff. For Cyborg 009, it takes place before the Yomi arc and after the Mythos arc.
For Devilman, it takes place just after Jinmen.
How do you experience 009? Which series? Or which manga?

There's only one manga. 18 out 36 volumes are translated. Both 1968 and 1979 series are only partially translated. 2001 series has a english dub. They're all standalone titles that do not require you to know the other series' stories.

I thought it was pretty good. Could've been a bit better with balancing the screentime between the two casts, though- definitely was more of a Cyborg OVA. Noticed that the Devilman-centric scenes were a lot better animated.That fucking post-credits though. Wonder if there's going to be a sequel or not.

Well let's look at it009 and Devilman get the most interaction and do the most together.
Ryo and 003 really briefly meet in episode 2, and then Ryo says bye to the cyborgs at the end.
Miki only ever interacts with Eva and gets to be protected by Ryo.

A bit poor, honestly. It's more of a Cyborg OVA that guest stars Devilman characters. The two casts don't really interact that much either- most of it is 009 and Akira.

so that you can know approximately when this OVA takes place on each manga's timeline.
I do suggest manga over anime for both, because Cyborg 009 for example is using characters from the manga. For example, Helena in the manga was replaced by Artemis in the 2001 anime so as not to confuse her with Helen. In the manga, Helena look exactly like Helen, and that one has like 4 sisters that also look like her. Their arc also takes place just after the one Helena's in. (Ishinomori switched magazines and ignored the events of the last mag he was in).
And here's how Artemis looks like. She was the replacement for Helena in the 2001 anime.
