Honestly I feel ya on there needing to be a bit more robot fighting action, as most of what we've gotten so far has been kinda brief or skimpy. But what we've gotten in the meantime hasn't been all that bad. And while there's a lot of exposition, it's at least not as jarringly inserted as it has been in some other series. For that matter, it hasn't even been -that- blatantly repetitious, or least not felt that way to me.
Never will get over this thing Jap writers do of inserting name, rank, and random details into an otherwise normal sentence. All "Even you - VICE FOREIGN MINISTER SMITH, FATHER OF SALLY SMITH - are opposed to us?" It comes off as forced as those drug ads with people saying "Oh man, I'm having such pain from my - MILD TO MODERATE - thingophlasia".

Time, time and time again, directors, producers and animators have said that that kind of quality is always down to how passionate the staff are and how good a production schedule the show has.
Look at the anime One Punch Man, most people would assume the show has a large budget because of the crazy fight sequences, but no, the show's lead animator had to stress ALOT on Twitter that the show has a pretty mediocre/average budget. It is the passion of everyone who works on the show to make it look that good.

That's general because the battles are important in Gundam, which seems to be a shocking revelation in this thread.
The plot and characters are usually centred around the war and the hero has something going on with it, usually a conflict about there being a fight or wants to achieve something with that. It gives more weight to everything happening. Mika doesn't really have anything invested in the larger conflict, didn't even really know much abut it till he got the whole Mars issues explained to him. He just wants to do his job and is okay with killing people to do that, and I don't really blame him as they keep throwing crazy people at him. IBO is more centred around talking, but it just isn't well written and so heavy of blatant exposition.
