>>13541115
Well, they can't show Jaimie giving a warning while the mech sneaks up concurrently without a split screen. Often in anime, concurrent events are shown sequentially (and dialogue also stops time).
>>13540210
How is Argevollen, anyway? The CGI is a letdown, but the fights look like they have a nice weight to them.
Of course, that means nothing if everything else sucks.
>>13541777
A fun but slow burn that focuses on more character relationships and slice-of-military-life with a more realistic / unconventional (for anime) ultimate villain and an ending that fits the show but might be off-putting for those expecting a grander spectacle.
Lots of screaming, also.
>>13541777
its a waste of potential and fucked around with awful pacing to the point where they rush through a anticlimatic and open ended ending.
>>13541777
see
>>13541797
For a very good (and neutral) description. I will only add that, if you do try Argevollen, give it time to develop, as in, more than 4 episodes as it does take it's time to move the plot around which did turn off most people away (like >>13543389) and then the ending is indeed an unusual route for an anime to take in these times. Some people (including me) also compared it to a Front Mission: The Anime that never was as it does have it's feel from time to time.
If you want more of my biased opinion I will say that this is the style of anime that I have been waiting for for a long time and it's sad for me to see how bad it did to most of the audience. It could have developed more it's potential? Yes it had that to do it in a number of places and, like all things, it could have used a bit of more budget for a better finish/polish to differentiate itself a bit more from the crowd.

>>13551376
Be Invoked is my favorite anime. I know fun.
>>13551412
Interesting. I think you were bothered by the way they had a go at each other and then would take a break for some talking before going at each other again. Of course I'm not you so that is only my idea.
Now can you see how posting an explanation like this is way more conducive to discussion than your original post?
>>13551433
>Of course I'm not you so that is only my idea.
No you're spot on, and it's not even the pauses that I have an issue is. I eat that stuff up, like in the Matrix movies. It's just why and how.
Of course I can, and I'm certain I've made similar comments before in some capacity but it's becoming increasingly less worthwhile because fewer and fewer people will humor discussion. So, I appreciate your willingness to chat.
>>13551466
That kind of thing is usually a problem with dialogue heavy text-based source material so I can see why you would have also felt that way with Bantorra since that was also an LN. I remember this was also something people complained about with UBW 2015. I think the main problem is the sources have these scenes where the enemies stop and talk to each other and in text you can assume they're still going at it, but when it gets animated it's more work to try have that at the same time as a conversation so they usually just stop if it's anything more than a single quip.
>>13551493
>Bantorra since that was also an LN
Huh, didn't realize.
Funny that you bring up UBW. I really enjoyed the first half, so UBW 2014. The flow was much better. I didn't mind the chats in the second half, so much as I did the lack of maintained momentum from episode to episode, and I feel like it could've pulled it off much better if it was 22 episodes.
>>13551506
Compared to the source, there was a bit of padding on the second half of the anime, but without that they would have filled their TV time slot properly.
>>13551534
I meant "wouldn't have".

How do you know a good fight from a bad fight?
There are a lot of times a fight with poor animation still looks pretty cool, on the other hand there are a lot of fights that never get webm'ed.
>>13554067
>there are a lot of fights that never get webm'ed.
I hope your takeaway isn't that the ones that don't get webm'd aren't good.
We make these of things that we just happen to think are cool.
Addressing your query, I suppose the criteria is different for everyone. Some people are grafix fags, and care mostly about how it looks. Others care about the context of the fight. Still others prefer fights to feature "feats"
Many people tend to agree that the choreography needs to be easy, or last least logical to follow, for example this >>13553585 doesn't show the act of him pushing her back out of harm's way, but you can still see it happen.
>>13546901 This one here has nice momentum to it, this >>13546793 too. >>13515420 The one in OP has that cool slomo bit and it shows off the mechs agility, but it has jarring animation.
>>13515622 This looks fairly pretty (much cleaner than it did in the theater), although the CG in AoU was a little inconsistent. See this >>13515729. The framing is also pretty bad here, lazy camera angles, weak effects, but there's also (maybe, not for me since the fight was really tired by that point for me) possibly that hint of the "stakes" being on the line.
1/2
>>13554067
>>13554157
I think a good fight needs to do all of those things really well, while a bad fight might only do one well, but completely fail in the other regards.
As much as I dislike the term, if something "takes you out of the show" while you're watching it, then it isn't a good fight. If somehow the fight only excels in a single aspect, but it still keeps you interested, then it may be a good fight, for you, just don't expect everyone to agree.
That's me though.
While it isn't /m/ this is one of my absolute favorite fights from recent years. If you believe my theory, The Goose is just playing a proselytizer in another God's homeland (there's an old pre-Biblical Hebrew concept about it, I'm trying to remember the word though). The fight is him vs. the resident God trying to get some honor after The Goose's faction gets their ass handed to them.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=zx7Ot9UGHXo
It's beautifully filmed, the hype is palpable, music enhances the tone of the scene, and it's well acted (the way the characters animate themselves, if I might)

Where are all the Geass webms? Akito the Exiled handles mech CGI better than anything I've seen IMO. You really get a feel for how the knightmares move around on those landspinners. There's a definite sense of momentum and weight behind every motion. The camera tracking and panning emphasizes every swing and slide too. I could watch it all day. I'd kill to watch some of the original series' fights redone in this style.

Imagine being Setsuna in that scene and having to be all like "damn, Double Oh, you fuckin' fine, all sexy with your blocky body and horrifically generic Mobile Suit head. I would totally sortie with you, both me, the Meister, and the real me." when all he really wants to do is pilot Gundam Exia in his dressing room. Like seriously imagine having to be Setsuna and not only wear that pilot suit while Double Oh Gundam presents its disgusting frame in front of you, the favorable lighting barely concealing its stolen GN Drives and goofy GN Sword, and just approach it, take after take, hour after hour, while it perfected that stance. Not only having to tolerate its monstrous fucking visor but its placid attitude as everyone on Ptolemaios tells it its STILL GOT IT and DAMN, DOUBLE OH GUNDAM LOOKS LIKE *THAT*?? because they're not the ones who have to boost over there and approach its mannish fucking gremlin head fixed in a terrible expression you didn't even know existed before that day. You've been piloting nothing but a healthy diet of Nadleehs and GN-Archers and later alleged Over-Flags for your ENTIRE CAREER coming straight out of the boonies in Krugis. You've never even seen anything this fucking dull before, and now you swear you can taste the GN Particles that are leaking out of its retarded binders as it keeps them perfectly still to pointedly aggravate you, calmly assured that you are enjoying the opportunity to get offered to float there and revel in its "statuesque (for that is what it calls itself)" beauty, the "beauty" Ian worked so hard for with CB Engineers in the previous months. And then Sumeragi calls for another take, and you know you could kill every single person on this spaceship before Tieria could use the Trial System on you, but you float there and endure, because you're fucking Setsuna. You're not going to lose your future career as a Gundam over this. Just bear it. Hide your face and bear it.
