The Purus still came in to break up the fight between Haman and Judau and didn't attack them but instead started moving their suit parts around. They probably had UNDERSTANDING and were just trying to stop the fight before Chara came in to "save the day"

To be fair, that was when the Federation was miniaturizing suits, and Mars Zeon was still going with BIGGER IS BETTER for a design philosophy, so once the Federation actually got to Mars it was basically a mop-up action, even the Grand Zam didn't really stop them.
Sort of like how Giganos had that giant as fuck Mass Driver, but the minute it stopped the Federation stalled Giganos's invasion by superior numbers, and then completely annihilated the invading force when they got the data for the Dragoons.
