I honestly never saw a point in continuing CG.
The setting isn't bad, of course, but it's the characters that make Code Geass what it is. Lelouch and CC, in particular, are the heart and soul of the franchise, and their story is wrapped up.

People want Goro to make a remake movie, but other than a vague announcement of a Geass film there has been nothing suggesting this in particular.
It's hard to tell how popular OZ is back in Japan itself, which is the only place that matters. Lack of popularity in the West is not a factor for obvious reasons.
The alternate dimension stuff is certainly possible, but I guess we'll see if they go through with.

I think that's a valid opinion, but I don't share it.
While I don't want a sequel per se, the entire universe does not have to end with Lelouch and C.C. (plus you can in fact have C.C. pop up without any issues, to be honest, in any sort of project, given her status).
You can make new characters that are different from those we have seen thus far (including different from the ones in the OVA, which in itself is another can of worms since Akane has already said he wishes that had been a TV series instead)

Well, it's not even that, it's also how it ended. Because the staff decided to completely ignore the conclusion's implications and just shove an 'everyone who isn't dead is happy now, go home' ending in our faces, essentially closing off CG to any further development R2-onwards.

I'd tend to disagree with that, because the ending doesn't suggest no other conflicts could ever come up in the history of humanity. It simply says that, for the time being, people are happy. The rest of the future is better left open-ended.
That said, the ending does make it extremely unlikely there will ever ben an R3 starring Lelouch, of course, but other options remain in the air. They could even create a sequel set 50 years into the future. Like Tomino did when he finally got rid of Char and Amuro.

Lelouch's is CC isn't since they decided it wasn't important anymore in R2. And honestly these spin-offs have shown that you don't need him to make Code Geass work HOWEVER whether or not Japan will be drawn to them is yet to be seen. Akito was a success though I'm not sure if its because the story and characters resonated with audiences or because it was the first animated spin-off of the franchise? That said, its seems to be successful enough that they're doing a lot more with the setting than I initially realized, what I thought was a straight forward 08th Team-esque one-off that would end with the deaths of the characters at the hands of The White Reaper has turn into a potential AU spin-off with the appearance of the dimension witch now people can't say it sold well due to cameos.
Oz is pretty much a bust though it doesn't seem to be getting nearly as much buzz or notoriety as Akito despite the initial hype it received in its first season I still say it would be better if they animate it because its the type of story that feels more in lines to the TV series unlike the more grounded Akito. I think the biggest problem with the franchise is that they can do anything beyond the conflict between Britannia and Japan so everything has to stick within of the timeline of R1 and R2 its the same quandary that UC Gundam suffers from though honestly CG is in a much better position than SEED since that series can't do anything without its two leads Kira and Lacus being present or else NO BUY, with Akito and to a lesser extent Oz people are still very much interested in the franchise with or without Lelouch at helm just not with anything before the Britannian conflict as Renya's unpopularity showed us.

Code Geass was definitely the Lelouch show, though I'd argue C.C. works fine as an eternal observer/narrator who lives through many different eras, regardless of how much she does at any particular moment. It's likely they'll use her again.
As for Akito, I think they won't kill everyone but there's still a huge chance that many of the characters will die right at the end, even if it's not Suzaku who does it.
Oz could work pretty well as an anime series if they figured out how to properly mix the manga and the photo novel, by taking the best parts of each and/or rearranging various details when necessary.
I do think we'll need to wait for them to create a G Geass, Geass X, or Geass Wing to actually move forward into new territory.
Renya was super weird and the absolute lack of robots didn't help much either.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. It has his favorite OST guy, some of his other regulars, and the role he has is the same that Tomino and Kawamori have had on some of their shows too. I would be surprised if there were any remakes since nothing has been announced to that precise effect.

Of course, the other parts of the property will live or die by their own merits. Renya's problem was that it went in such a completely unrelated direction that it had more in common with Bleach or Naruto than with Code Geass in the long run.
Oz and Akito have a lot more in common with the TV series, conceptually speaking, even outside of the cameos.
Renya was a shounen fighting action/adventure where "guy with powers gets friends, they go beat a series of bad guys and reach the last boss, the end" was the formula, It only briefly touched on anything interestin, such as a a small amount of information on Britannian politics. Dash looked like Lelouch but he was simply the villain, period, and didn't get a lot to do until the final couple of volumes or so.
Renya barely even addressed anything about C.C. or Geass in general for that matter. Nor was she was even half as present as in the TV series, since they didn't give her any role as the narrator. Just as another companion.

I think they gave us a hint this episode that Akito is merely mentally redirecting Shin's command to DIE into killing other people (which is why Yukiya says that killing others is the same as killing himself). How exactly he was able to do this other than with a strong willpower is hard to tell without a full flashback.

Not sure, no one seems to be subbing the picture dramas, even though the first one came out with the 2nd ova or of the two new picture dramas from the original series; one depicts Lelouch using a Knightmare frame controls for simulations to when to actual pilot one and other other depicts during R2 during Love attack.
So, let's talk a bit.
Most of us are expecting a new Code Geass project next year. But what do we think it will be? A sequel to Akito? A new side story entry? A retelling/reboot? Or a true sequel to the series?

They said they were planning a movie 3 years back during the Akito/Nunnally in Wonderland so maybe something will come to light with the 10th anniversary next year ala New Translation or a remake. A new side story seems out of the question given Oz's meh sales and Renya's abysmal reception but an adaptation of the former seems plausible. Akito has opened up the possibility of an AU series with the appearance of the dimension keeper in episode 3 so that's another thing they could expand upon. Can't see Taniguchi or Okouchi being involved since they're both busy with original projects next year plus Taniguchi may seem adamant over working with Sunrise again after how R2 turned out since he hasn't done anything for the studio in 7 years since then.

I don't think we know how well Renya was received, other than the fact most of us don't like it. Oz is getting more volumes though, which probably suggests they're happier with it. That said, I do think Akito having that dimensional administrator will open the gates for a proper AU in the usual Gundam style. Taniguchi is involved in an original show from January, this is true, but we don't know how long that will last. Okouchi has a different project with Araki that seems to have been delayed with no further informaiton. Taniguchi isn't that anti-Sunrise, considering he did write (not direct) two picture dramas for the re-releases of the BD boxes in 2013/2014. So technically he's already done new work for them in that capacity.

That's actually not completely true.
Geass got a lot of of its KMFs made right at the start of the RD toyline. And many of them sold well.
If anything, I think Bandai only focuses on a certain number of series at a time for RDs. So they likely have their hands full to do new molds for Geass, especially when Dunbine and L-Gaim are selling so well, so they'll wanna get their money out of those lines while they can.

Oz is ending and the second season is rushing through a lot of shit now. Keep in mind that Oz was made to promote the new RD line of Code Geass merchandise but we haven't gotten anything beyond the first season sets, two of which has been canceled, and nothing for season 2 and after the Tamaishi Fes revealed nothing from Oz its safe to assume its been a bust.

Well writing is different from directing and it more or less didn't require much effort, just because he's still supporting the franchise he made doesn't necessarily means he's on good terms with the studio.

Not much. We have to do some bridging; Monette has to meet up with the rest of the Rounds before Lelouch becomes Emperor, and they have to explain what happened to her for why she didn't join the Pendragon raid.
Then, they have to establish the Glinda Knights and Marrybell on opposite sides, meaning joining the Black Knights and Lelouch respectively.
And of course, what Orpheus is doing.
