What the fuck is this shit /m/?
How does this show end on such a dark note? The earth is almost completely fucked, all of the Yuusha robots are destroyed strapped to the walls of the ship with space rope, almost all of the main cast will die in a collapsing wormhole and they can only save the two children. I think it's even worse that two seconds before everyone dies Kosuke lost his fucking waifu for a second time. I don't even think the transition to the primevals was this dark.
>>
>>14417687
GGG FINAL wasn't very good for this reason. Its darker tone did not mesh well at all with the GGG setting and characters. It was kind of the same problem that people had with Nadesico PoD.

Another problem it shares with Nadesico PoD is that it's not a sequel to the TV show. Rather, it's a sequel to some novel called "queen of Leo" or something like that, so feel free to act like it doesn't exist.
>>
>>14417687
FINAL was beloved upon its release and for many years afterward for its designs, animation quality and fights, but over time more people have soured on it because of the gratuitous elements like the bee rape, the downer ending and the general way GGG is presented as solving all their problems through nothing but screaming and courage, when in the show they always solved problems using their brains just as much as their fists. That's what makes the MotW first half of the show watchable: they would often think their way out of problems, not just beat it up some more.
>>
>>14417732
The funny thing is that the Dagwon ova does the same thing, the tone of the ova is darker than the show, and it feels really out of place (the show has at least a few thousand people die, and it never felt that dark).
>>
>>14417764
>They always solved problems using their brains just as much as their fists
I wouldn't say that. The whole THE POWER thing in the second half of the show involved much the same things as what FINAL would go on to do. FINAL didn't bother me for that. It bothered me for shit like Renais and Papillion.
>>
>>14417806
THE POWER was an external force that they didn't really control so much as it helped both sides, though. It provided an excuse for things to go cosmic near the end, it wasn't the only thing they did. GGG in FINAL never has a plan for what they're doing. They win only because the Sol Masters are grandstanding idiots.
>>
>>14417687
>Downer ending
>They all but imply that they're just gonna come back in a few years
>>
>>14417943
>Implying canned Project Z

You'll never see the proper crossover between GGG and Betterman.
>>
There was supposed to be another story after FINAL where they came back, but it never happened.
>>
>>14418042
And I don't want to

Those two franchises got together like chocolate and gasoline.
>>
Everything will be fine, as long as you believe in the oath sworn in courage.

We'll meet our heroes again, some day, in the sea of stars...
>>
Plus starting to gall GGG the God of Destruction is just pointlessly Chuu2. Gai is more likely to call that shit out and say he's the god protection or something.

The biggest problem was, well, this wasn't a story that needed to be told. The TV ending was fantastic, Gai got his body back and everything was hunky dory.

Final was what happens when you try to force everyone to see that your beloved nostalgia bot isn't just kiddy.

This is why I fucking dread sequels now. Well this POD Seed Destiny, Aquarion Evol, Eureka 7 AO, but the point I've not seen a single mech show sequel that didn't end up being at best unnecessery and at worst ruining the sequel by association.

It's terrible, because we should want to see more and be happy, but all I typically think about is "What terrible idea is going to fuck everything up."
>>
I remember the cast being pretty confident they will figure this shit out before the collapse and return eventually. Is that just my emotions playing with my memories?
>>
>Guy swears to return on his courage
>You doubt him

Did 50 episodes and the entirety of Final teach you nothing?
>>
>>14419684

That's what they say, but really they don't sound all that confident, and the Yuusha bots and Gai and Mikoto's final words to the two imply they don't plan on ever seeing them again.

If it helps you feel better, each Mashin Eiyuuden Wataru series is even better than the last (mostly since the first show is a bit heavy on the MOTW formula), to the point that Chou winds up being among the best mecha fantasy the 90s had to offer.
>>
>>14418151
>They share the same damn world together.
Doesn't matter, the tone of each show was very different. You'd have to make GGG dark and weird, or Betterman happy and shiny.

You'd have an easier time crossing Betterman with Brigadoon.
>>
>>14419888
Isn't Betterman's opening actual footage of the ocean? And Brigadoon's is actual footage of the sky? I thought that was interesting.
>>
>>14417687
Man, I didn't get that impression at all.
>>
>>14417687
I see you've learned nothing watching this show. The words that promise: we will return. Those who wield courage will never betray their promises. If nothing else, this is what you should learn from the king of braves.
>>
>>14419673

It's not just mech shows. It's sequels in general that do this. You need to have a conflict for them so of course that means ruining whatever resolution the series prior had
>>
>>14417923
>THE POWER was an external force that they didn't really control so much as it helped both sides, though.

Pretty much. People forget that the Z Master was powered up by it too.
>>
>>14422170

and I see you're an idiot. You think this is just about that? Butch, please. It's about the pointlessly edgy bee rape and bondage porn. It's about the mecha gore and god of destruction bullshit.

It's about creating a pointless sequel that didn't need to be told and shitting all over the perfect end of the TV series just so you can try to convince your friends in high school that it's not a show for babies

Yep. Galoria Road.
>>
>>14423482
It had a tool called Galloreia Road whose function was never described. It could have been a way back, it could have been what Genesic was supposed to use to defeat Pisa Sol.
>>
>>14423482
supposedly this, but since they never stated what the fuck does, all that's left is just speculation i even started to doubt if this thing is real or just fanfiction

this wiki also says that genesic had an extra genesic driver too, and the extra unused bolts that were later used in SRW

GGG Final has way more problems than just the ending, anon.
>>
>>14417764
>the general way GGG is presented as solving all their problems through nothing but screaming and courage, when in the show they always solved problems using their brains just as much as their fists

This is my only real problem with FINAL. I could live with the darker tone, the new characters I've never heard of, the fan service, bondage rape and the bittersweet ending but the lack of technobabble was unforgivable.
>>
>>14428361

looking back it's actually really interesting how well thought out and planned the rescues where. I mean it was all technobabble and anime nonesense but it showed the characters where thinking.

>Oh robots cause a lot of collateral damag? what if we build a device that creates a safe zone to fight in. And some tools to fix shit.

>Oh hey turns out our screw driver can be used for all sorts of shit too.

There was a clear logic to the climax of most of the episodes. They introduce a new project or device and it comes into play during the episode or is later used in new ways with a bit of lateral thinking

it really wasn't just screaming and COURAGE!
>>
>>14428382
>>Oh robots cause a lot of collateral damag? what if we build a device that creates a safe zone to fight in. And some tools to fix shit.

As the show progressed it let them up the stakes really easily just by having a fight where they couldn't use the dividing driver and having the fight cause collateral damage. It was a really logical and simple way to make an enemy more dangerous.
FINAL wanted to eat its cake and have it using its mirror earth, you get all the visuals of cites being damaged, but none of it actually means anything

All this talk about the GGG using more than Gai's RAGE to solve their problems reminds me of an episode during the Primeval arc. It was with the Primeval that was trying to knock out the GGG base in space by drilling in to the Magma core and spewing lava at it.

During that episode, the GGG crew had to take a break, and go over a plan to take the thing down. What makes this scene stick out to me was that the sun was setting with the monster still reach upwards, almost like it was splitting the sky in two. There was also a nice moment with Gai and Mamoru there, too. It was a nice bit of down time before it went back to the insane over the top-ness that mostly defined GGG.

suposedly needs both hands, i like to imagine is a super revamped hell and heaven that makes genesic turn into a comet and break space and time. maybe it also uses both drivers and turning them into genesic's dimension pliers equivalent
>we will never have a sequel where the bad guy is a about to beat gaogaigo, just to then getting wrecked accidentally by genesic just because he hell and heaven his way back to earth

>comparing Final with PoD

They didn't went overboard THAT much.

I think it's good for GGG to finally have a bitter-sweet ending, the final TV episode was fucking bullshit.

>let's pull the final card that we never use because if we do we will kill ourselves after using it
>lol jk bravery saves the day again!

While I am pretty sure the crew will return to Earth has a chance been given for the series to continue, I am fine with the fact being left hanging.
>>
>>14430659
>the final TV episode was fucking bullshit.
>caring

The whole setup for the fight was also bullshit, so I don't particularly care if it was resolved the same way. Plus it was hands-down the best fight I've ever seen in a mecha show, and I've watched a shitload of mecha and don't even actually like GGG that much in general.
>>
>>14431011
This, lol
>>
>>14431011
It was basically an epilogue after the actual final battle anyway, so it's a freebie to let the animators let loose.
