Battletech has pilots practically in the nude (a few stories). Just a neurohelmet, cooling vest, boots, and underwear. Gloves and extra attire optional.

Though some of the richer pilots or organizations have actual form-fitted cooling wear (full or partial, depending on preference or faction pilot dress code).

The problem with most coolant suits is that not only are they expensive as fuck and just as difficult to find, the coolant that's pumped around is still as toxic as they are in the vests. If any of it gets into the bloodstream then the mechwarrior involved is gonna need medical attention asap.

Of course, the Clan coolant vests don't have these problems.

Cool air from where?
>>
>>12430424
I doubt pilots would be allowed to have hair like that.
>>
>>12429086
Let's start with some basic concerns.
1st, what is the control interface? The mecha pilot may have to wear some kind of plug suit that reads the impulses through the body and translates them into commands for the mech. If some kind of suit is mandatory, then it would probably be almost like a space suit with built in cooling measures, even if it has to tether to the mech in some way. If we are dealing with something like an iron man powered armor, since we are dealing with a small, enclosed environment, the colling system would be built directly into the mech, or skipped all together.

If a control suit is not required, some kind of pilots' fire suit would still be recommended, and in any kind of regulated fighting force would be a mandatory uniform.

If the mech offers the pilot a cockpit, even a small one, it can easily have an air conditioning system in place, and would want a self contained environment in case of chemical weapons.

Final answer, depending on the mech and the control system anything from what a modern tank operator wears up to a full environmental suit.

Is this Kagura from Azumanga? Because damn.

And in general, in hot environments you probably want a full body climate-controlled suit of some kind. Baring skin is all well and good, but high heat in the cockpit means all the metal objects are heated as well and that's going to cause burns, which is a big problem in a cramped cockpit with lots of hot metal objects to bump into.

There's no actual military that would be caught dead without cooling vests.
Even in the middle of the second succession war, when everyone was getting their factories nuked and they were losing the ability to make freezers and warships, the only time an actual military unit would not have vests is when they didn't get resupplied.

There are, however, poor mercs and shitty planetary militias all over the place with their centuries-old warhammers and Archers, or salvaged bugmechs.
They are the ones who don't have coolant vests.

Also:

From the old House Davion sourcebook (which is available for download through Sarna):

>Keeping the ‘Mech pilot cool enough is the basic function of the MechWarrior’s uniform. In a constant search to help its warriors be more comfortable in the hell of a ‘Mech in combat, the AFFS introduced the Cooling Undershirt about ten years ago. Developed by the scientists of Team Banzai and the NAIS, this short-sleeved red undershirt is basically a miniature version of the MechWarrior’s cooling vest. Each strand of the undershirt is actually an extremely small but tough tube that carries water or similar fluid around the wearer’s torso. Though it cannot cool as much as a regular cooling vest, the cumulative effect of the shirt and the vest allows the ‘Mech pilot to withstand even the hottest cockpit in relative comfort.

-----

>Because the bulky cooling vest covers the shoulders, the epaulettes denoting the wearer’s rank are worn over the upper arm instead.
>>
>>12429106
A description from the old House Liao sourcebook (also available through Sarna):

>The typical battledress worn by Capellan MechWarriors is not unlike those used in other Houses in the Inner Sphere. The hot environment of a ‘Mech’s interior during combat has prompted MechWarriors to adopt an armless body shell composed of three separate pieces, covering shoulders, torso, and waist. Hand and leg protectors protect against constant chafing and irritation while moving within a ‘Mech cockpit. In some small Capellan BattleMechs, MechWarriors forego wearing the center torso shell in favor of layers of silk or cotton to provide additional freedom of movement.

>Biosensors are worn along the warrior’s arms and legs, providing constant information to the ‘Mech’s environmental control computers. As Capellan technology lags behind that of other Houses, it has produced a larger then average-sized neurohelmet. An emergency air sup-ply/filtration system is built into the helmet to provide 30 minutes of oxygen if the ‘Mech’s circulation system shuts down. A personal med-pack is situated on the wearer’s left shoulder, containing an assortment of stimulants and pain depressants administered by disposable, compressed air-hypos.

if cockpits of mecha were hot. pilots would wear a cooling suit under their pilot suit. using chilled water hoses to circulate water through the suit and through a radiator.

See this NASA cooling suit. Which is worn by astronauts when in their space suits and EVA.

Nah. It's just that they can't handle the weapons and myomers just dumping heat into the robot.
Actually, most battlemech cockpits are pretty decent. They got toilets, storage, the chairs can fold out into beds, all sorts of stuff. At least, on the big mechs.

Even Decision at Thunder Rift mentions A/C. Or maybe it was another book in the series, I can't remember.

What the second guy said. Locomotion is not a real problem when it comes to heat, but firing off dozens of rockets and hundreds of bullets tends to put a lot of pressure on any cooling system, much more than a lousy A/C unit could manage.

Actually it's there, but the climate control systems under typical battlemech deployment conditions is only capable of keeping the cockpit about as habitable as a sauna.

Battlemechs by design produce a fuckton of heat, there's just not enough space to make things more habitable.

But it gets better, in more frigid environs it can get real fucking cold in there. Thankfully heating is rather trivial by comparison.

Funny you came here, I wrote a few time to justify Stripperiffic skintight suit as acceptable female spacesuit

> Copypaste :
Getting to space is challenging because every gram count, living-space is also likely to be scarce for this reason as pressurized space is costly. Furthermore in absence of gravity to hold things down, you and object are going to float, the more complicated and loose a clothe is, the more likely you are to get caught in things.

All those statement comfort that the BEST space clothes will be tight and form-fitting clothes.

Pocket are needed, but SPACE-pocket are going to be different, preferring strapped object rather than free-floating object in clothes, an adaptable harness can be used for this.
On the question of PILOT suit, G-Force dampening system are needed, I infer that this is likely through the use of smart tightening material.
Also, if the suit isn't vacuum-rated, such skintight are best to get fast into another one that is.

As an addendum, don't be fooled by their appearance, high-heels of the space future can be robotic spring to move efficiently in zero-gravity environment.
And all the above would obviously be double-compatible with gravity environment.

So I declare this skintight catsuit practical, along with high-cut competition swimsuit and bikini.

Of course everything, yes everything, I said do apply to men as well, no sexism here.

Another copypasta to follow >>12437241

Our best reflexions on the perfect pilot suit design for future women mech pilot have lead us to the following requirements :
- skintight suit to not get caught on thing in low-gravity room and lessen weight in the costly space environment.
- made of smart-material that act like invisible hand to lessen G-force
- applied like paint to fit anybody best
- encompass busts entirely in a semi-rigid fashion as to provide best force dampening

Further research are ongoing on...
- half-transparent material to see potential injury faster
- a suit dissolving liquid to access zone of injury as fast as possible
One of our specialist is also working on anti-poison lipstick

A secret procedure is worked on to move the g-force protection to the cockpit itself, such as straps fully restricting the female pilot movements in any way and a neuronal-control helmet.
...this allowed for more variation to be considered :
- high-cut swimsuit, most efficient in case of crash at sea-level altitude and to facilitate cleaning.
- bikini as to reduce overall production cost in our post-nudity-taboo society.
- A sealed-box with a full parka suit in case it get cold.
- in 0-G station, a sort of futuristic spring-like high-heels would be useful.

Lastly it have been suggested that gold embroidery would give more dignity to the army.
So, if there's any draw-anon here, schematics are requested -including wide range of model physiology- to fulfill this important mission.

More suggestions for improvement are welcome, in particular for waterless sea-level region.

Never thought of suspending the pilot in fluid, though you'd have to have like whirlpool/hot-tub jets for circulating fluid, since convention currents don't work in microgravity

Also I've heard water is actually pretty reasonable radiation shielding, especially if you need to bring water along anyway.

I do have to wonder what about impacts and jarring would do to the pilot in that situation, on the one hand, water is more viscous than air which would probably dampen the pilot from being shaken about the cabin, on the flip side, water is incompressible so shock forces to the walls of the cabin would be transmitted to the pilot quite readily

very interesting
>>
>>12437390
and one more thing to add to that, if I recall correctly, water is actually rather good at slowing down projectiles, so whether it be a penetrating round, or cabin wall spalling, cabin fluid might make a reasonable barrier

though on the subject of laser/particle weaponry, attacking the side of the cabin wall would have some interesting properties.
Since those weapons function by ablating or melting, a liquid filled cabin could reduce the effectiveness of such attacks through the mechanism of having the fluid carry away the heat.
Its important to note in this instance, that it may be entirely possible to boil the pilot alive from either a powerful enough attack or a sustained barrage.

As much as I like the various stripper pilot suits found in mecha, the justification of "it gets hot inside the robot" doesn't make a whole ton of sense. If the interior of the robot is getting hot from operation, that would probably mean that any metal surface inside the cockpit would be getting dangerously hot. In a situation where getting knocked around in the cockpit could lead to scalding or burns, some kind of full body self-insulated suit would make more sense.

They can still totally be skintight though.

Getting very uncomfortably hot doesn't necessarily mean getting scalding hot though.

at that point, give enough time to humanity and our culture might actually develop a taboo fetish for wearing too much clothes ! Maybe delinquent punk of the future would wear clothes similar to what was worn in the years 1700 (king Louis XIV and co)

Not caring about what mecha your imaginary slut drives is the worst thing I have ever heard.

The ones without vests are basically doing the first half of TTGL, where they have stolen or salvaged mechs and are jury-rigging what they can. So they just stick fans in any gaps in the armor, and don't wear much. Even with coolant vests though, your balls probably get damn sweaty in those things.
