Since majority of mobile suits uses beam weapons, why doesn't any of them have anti-beam coating around the cockpit area?
In the UC, it just doesn't work very well. The Hyaku Shiki was their test to see if it could replace having a shield, and it turns out that no, a coat of paint isn't a great armor. It's still apparently being used (FA ZZ had a coat of it), but beams are just too strong.
In CE, it's like Magical ORB Technology or some shit. Nobody else uses it because nobody else has it.

If recall correctly, the Hyaku Shiki's gold coating is an experimental slightly improved version of the clear stuff they already applied to shields and heat weapons in the OYW. Both the clear and gold coating burned off from use though so they didn't work against more powerful beam weapons. UC designs just ended up applying generous amounts of the clear coating used for shields for beam resistance on MS like Psyco and Enhanced ZZ. I assume that's what they did with Sinanju when it got into the Neo Zeong as well. That UC gold coating stuff just isn't seen again until the V2 Assault.
Love the Akatsuki too bad it showed up for like 10 minutes.
