As for "creative license," general rule of thumb for me is to stay the hell away from tampering too much to my delight. I only do what is absolutely necessary.
Still, I would adjust pages by removing/adding a paragraph, changing size font (as in 14 to 13 or 12.5, nothing too lamentable), or changing the position of *my* excerpts since I'm not at liberty to readjust others', et cetera.
