Best French surrealist books? I liked Les Chants de Maldoror and Story of the Eye, looking for something similar. Are Irene's Cunt and Nadja in the same vein?

Both books you mentioned aren't excactly surrealist. Lautreamont was sort of black romantic/proto-surrealist, Bataille was a bit different as well. Won't do bad with Irene's cunt, Nadja is different, not much of darker themes, more light in there (goes for all of Breton).
If you don't strictly want something french then try Unica Zurn.
Also: Mandiargues, Gracq, Noel, maybe some Genet, early Leiris.

The Opposing Shore by Julien Gracq is excellent and won the author one of France's top literary prizes.
