Had the same feeling. Might have been a good book when it was released, but nowadays it was painful to read. Also the ending is a huge cop-out.
Still there are some revolutionary great ideas in there. But the neverending fish list and terrible pacing kills it.

About to read Journey to the Center of the Earth. Apparently the 1st and definitive English translation is bogus and there's a better one out there that isn't read as much. Anyone got any info on this?
Also, why would you read 20,000 Leagues in the winter? It seems like a total beach read.
