Title is "need help debating LGBT issues"
I have had several (friendly) debates with straight non-allies. Typically I feel that I have come out on top but two questions have stumped me and I need a satisfactory response to use because I myself don't know
"If gender is a learned social construct, then how can someone be born transgender?"
And if gender isn't a social construct, and transgendered people are genuinely born with the brain of the opposite sex, this then implies that gender roles are real, instinctive and have an actual physiological basis in nature. From this it would follow that gay parenthood deprives the child of an important parental role, that of a male or female.
How can I reconcile these two positions? Thanks

Gender roles are the social construct.
Gender identity is innate.

What is gender identity?
If one's gender is not decided by their physical sex, and if femininity and masculinity are social constructs, then what is left?
What is a woman? Define what a woman is. Because from what you've just said, a biological male with a shaved head, big muscles and combat boots whose name is Vince and who behaves in a very stereotypically masculine manner, can instantly become a woman just by saying he is one.
You've just reduced transgender to the words male or female.
What is a woman? What is a man?
