Like in ParaNorman. The internet got really mad and kept bitching about how that one guy being gay was "tacked on at the end for laughs" and it only mattered if they were "out" for the whole movie, but I actually thought that it was a pretty slick choice for the writers to make. Everyone spent the whole movie identifying with and rooting for a character who turned out to be gay. I think that does more for having people see gays as "not so different" than the other approach.
