Guys, is there a .22LR Ak that isn't plastic shit, aside from Radom ?
>>
>>30632116
I thought there was a wasr-22 but I cold be wrong.
>>
>>30632140
True. I'd like to know if there's more though.

Is this a fair price for a triangle folder, considering its condition?

>>30632116
The GSG .22 AK has controls in the same spot as an actual AKM and weighs about the same as a normal AKM. It even has a side rail. I don't think it can take AKM furniture though. I've heard that to function 100% it needs hi velocity .22lr but some people say it functions fine with anything.

>>
>>30632407
Hurrr. I know there's some loss of energy from the shorter barrel, and I'd be using a "pistol brace" so one handed operation isn't an issue. Any reliability problems with them?

I've got three (2 Dracos and an M92 PAP). They are fun and I've not had any reliability issues other than a pin wanting to walk out on the M92, solved that by replacing the shepards hook with R clips. They are useless as pistols but with a 'brace' they could be worthwhile. I got mine with the intention of SBRing them but it has not happened yet.

>>30633609
I just got my ak-74 at the right time. I was paying 120/can + shipping, so about 275 per crate of 2160. I paid even less for the first crate I bought, like 110/can.
The last can I saw was at a gunshow, and it was basically 250+ per can. I asked the guy if I could just buy the crate off him for 20 bucks, but he declined because it made the cans more awkward to carry. His loss I guess over an extra bit of work moving it back to his vehicle till he could find another box for it.
>>30633713

Sold it to a fudd, but I think it was honestly just my rifle because friends if mine have WASR 10s and only a few experienced these problems as for mags they were steel romy surp. This is just my experience with WASR 10s, I'm sure your rifle functions great, but all I'm saying is I got a bad apple and when there is one there's more.

If you're only trying allowed like $300 per purchase, then when you're charged more than that it'll reject and bounce back.

Also interested in hearing what's up with these. I've heard from some folks that they're awesome, and from some people that they're dog shit. Definitely want to know - from someone who has one - how it is, and whether the concerns about soft bolts and carriers are true.

The bolts are cast and are softer than a normal one and the bolt carrier has lightening cuts in it that are a failure point. Basically everything but the barrel is not the proper hardness.

I'm having trouble with my front iron sight. When firing, the post unscrews itself and goes down. Also I can push the entire sight to the side like I'm adjusting the windage. Obviously, the sight doesn't hold a zero while firing - has anyone else encountered this problem and come up with a solution?
>>

From what I have seen mainly people like the new generation of them. They only have some feeding issues when it comes to non magpul mags is what people are saying. I just picked up a RAS47. Sitting on my desk next to me. I have to wait to shoot it though till next week or so. Non magpul mags to wiggle a good bit.

anyone here experienced in staining AK wood?

Good to hear. I'm really trying not to fuck this up but I'm probably overthinking it. Also I'm sick of watching youtube videos so I'm just doing it.

>>30639074
>>
>>30639030
why in the world would you use shellac?? Its like a million times harder to apply, is not nearly as permanent or protective, and the color is so hard to get gud. a nice can of stain and some spray poly lacquer will make it last forever mang.
>>
>>30639215
It's what /akg/ told me to use, and it's what the Russians use apparently.

Here the wood samples after two coats, applied with a china bristle brush and the excess wiped away with strips of a new tshirt.

Not as shiny as I thought it would be by now, I was told shellac has a natural shine to it
>>
>>30639280
forgot pic

also should note these pieces are unsanded, and that the one on the left is just shellac, while the one on the right is cut with 40% denatured alcohol. The third is unstained
>>
>>30639215
not >>30639030
but poly takes awhile to dry, leaves a shiny finish (even with low gloss) and smells pretty bad for weeks after it drys

shellac is more expensive but makes the wood look better

3 coats, and it doesnt look much brighter.

Someone help me out here, I can't help but feel like this is getting screwed up somehow. I uncover the shellac-alcohol solution, dip the china brush in it and paint the wood. Then wash off the brush with just the denatured alcohol, rinse with water, and then apply pure shellac to the piece on the left. Then wipe excess shellac off both pieces with some shirt fabric and let them dry. Am I doing something wrong? Maybe leave the shellac on a few seconds longer before I wipe away the extra stuff?

HELP PLS
This shit is pissing me off and I can't seem to find anything about it online.

How can I remove blemishes from a parkerized finish? This is the dust cover of my AK. The marked areas are little imperfections in the parkerized finish that are shinier than the normal matte finish.

It can only really be seen at an angle. There are little marks everywhere. Anyone know anything about this? I can't find anything on google. I'd like to make the finish consistent.

If you got the "soviet type 2" then it likely won't be brown (which is actually dark red, like the bulgarian type 2 circle 10 has)
But if you do get a dark one, RGuns has izzy type 2s.

https://rguns.net/shop/bayonet-soviet-type-2-akm-izy/

Mine is very orange.

The first EG type 2 I could turn up was on Northridge, but their website is fucked so you'd have to call in your order.
I think they have an Ebay store too, you could look for one there.

From the letter people have received it sou da like not maintaining 922r configuration is "illegal". Even on pre ban guns, only replacing parts with new original type keeps it 922r.

They could determine exactly where you parts came from with enough resources.

Source?

From the law:
(r) It shall be unlawful for any person to assemble from imported parts any semiautomatic rifle or any shotgun which is identical to any rifle or shotgun prohibited from importation under section 925(d)(3) of this chapter as not being particularly suitable for or readily adaptable to sporting purposes except that this subsection shall not apply to—
(1) the assembly of any such rifle or shotgun for sale or distribution by a licensed manufacturer to the United States or any department or agency thereof or to any State or any department, agency, or political subdivision thereof; or
(2) the assembly of any such rifle or shotgun for the purposes of testing or experimentation authorized by the Attorney General.

Regardless, it could be confiscated as contraband. You're definition of assembly is likely different than ATF.

>anon strips his AK to bare receiver and barrel, removes every US part, puts it back together with foreign parts
>I didn't assemble

It's an antiquated law, essentially a tax. None of my AKs are near 922r compliant, except one all original pre ban. However it *possible* they could be confiscated, and possible I could be charged with some crime for altering the rifles out of configuration

As a test why don't you take your favorite AK with foreign furniture and FCG to an ATF branch. Brag about how you just bought Russian surplus and combloc FCG parts and installed them.

I doubt you would

>As a test why don't you take your favorite AK with foreign furniture and FCG to an ATF branch. Brag about how you just bought Russian surplus and combloc FCG parts and installed them.

I'd have zero problem with this, as they would have no chance in a court of law (with the "scumbag" lawyers I know) and it would likely get ruled unconstitutional as it's referencing a part of a law no longer in effect (the AWB)

As one individual put it:

>It would be extremely difficult to successfully prosecute someone under 922(r). The government would have to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, 1) that the requisite number of specific parts on the gun are of foreign manufacture, and 2) that you, the defendant, put together the gun with these parts after the date the law took effect.

>They would first have to justify a search and seizure of your gun in order to get a look at the parts... this could be a tall order. Obviously a cop at the range is not going to be able to tell from visual inspection whether you have the right number of domestic parts on a gun, and certainly wouldn't be able to tell whether you put it together. About the only way for them to get their hands on the gun to be able to give it any kind of through inspection would be for them to seize it as evidence associated with another crime.

>Then actually proving where each part was made... that would be very difficult, especially with the non-marked trigger, bolt, and magazine parts. They MIGHT be able to prove country of origin by having a metallurgist take a look at it. Some more readily recognizable parts might be easy for an expert witness to testify as to their origin, like bakelite furniture. The serialized parts could be shown to be foreign. It is very doubtful that the ATF or anybody would go to the expense to have a metallurgist analyze the parts though.

I wish them well in this endeavor, but it would ultimately be for naught.

Furthermore only one individual has ever been charged with 922r violations, during the AWB and even then he was never convicted of said violations.

>Trader Vics had their FFL pulled over violating 922(r) (installing bayonets on imported SKS rifles). The case is Trader Vic's Ltd. vs. Paul O'Neill, 169 F. Supp. 2nd 957 (ND Indiana 2001).

>This was before the Assault Weapons Ban expired, however, and the section that 922(r) relies on was still part of law. If you actually read through 922(r), it calls that section right at the start, and cannot stand alone without that section's legal definitions (which aren't legally valid anymore). From a legal standpoint, that section no longer exists, and 922(r) can't stand on its own.

The ATF is trying to scare people into following rules and regulations that don't exist in the law, in order to curtail new gun owners.
That's it.

>>
>>30641165
Exactly, but forensics isn't exactly expensive anymore.

The point of taking the rifle into ATF and telling them it a not 922r is to relieve them of that burden. Confiscation without due process is legal is reasonable. Admitting rifles aren't 922r would be reasonable cause.

People have been prosecuted. I'm not sure what the circumstances were, but it's happened. Likely people they wanted to nail for every possible charge so whatever sticks would put them away for awhile.

I'm just saying it's POSSIBLE to be charged, not likely by any stretch. The likelihood of prosecution while doing nothing else illegal is practically zero. Commit some felony that would be hard for the prosecution to prove, bet your ass they would bring some 922r charge

In reality it is solely applied to importers and dealers, not the everyday average joe.

Again, possible

Swapping parts out is manufacturing. If not what is? Rivets? Forging steel?

What if you assembled a kit gun?

Confiscation could happen. Can argue morality or unknown prosecutions all you want. Proofs will be heading down to the ATF with your fav AK and show'n tell how your rifle is not compliant and you installed the parts.

Easy man, test the theory. Go buy Russian furniture with izzy logos and QA stamps on every piece. Head down to the ATF office and be real smug. Real "am I being detained sir".
>>
>>30641363
Kek. I'm just making a kinda philosophical point.

None of my rifles are 922r compliant

Just saying it's POSSIBLE to have rifle confiscated or be charged.
>>
>>30641364
>Go buy Russian furniture with izzy logos and QA stamps on every piece. Head down to the ATF office

EZPZ

"Well my guy Bob got some blank wood stock in from Russia, and made this furniture on his woodworking equipment. He also got some "authentic" stamps to imprint into the wood to make it appear "original"

Now what?
>>
>>30641363
>>30641364
>>30641359
Exactly. They really can't.
It's to fuck over importers.
>>
>>30641377
Not even close.
They'll never touch it outside of importers and manufacturers for fear that it will, rightfully so, be overturned.

The ONLY reason people comply is out of fear.
>>
>>30641396
Haha fuck Christ

You don't think they could test shellac composition? You think FBI couldn't tell difference between some Giddens and whatever the fuck CCCP used?

Top kek mate

So let's eliminate all that and get straight to the heart of it.

Just tell them it's all foreign, and give them a little reason to get off their ass and take your rifle.
>>
>>30641409
Please do this, KVAR trigger blow and just want the factory milspec
>>
>>30641417
>You don't think they could test shellac composition?
>Implying shellac is illegal or testable as to the region it originated at.
Protip - Most shellac is currently produced in India.

>Just tell them it's all foreign, and give them a little reason to get off their ass and take your rifle.
Why make it easy?
>Again what is the 5th Amendment?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdeo7Q2E5cE
>>
>>30641409
That's the only reason anyone complies right? Fear, a sense of being in the right?

I suppose fear and coincidence. I also love my children, and I don't kill them, so I don't follow that law about killing kids out of fear, but beyond that
>>
>>30641451
>but why make it easy
>B-but it's not illegal to own

Now maybe they wouldn't prosecute, or couldn't prosecute I dint know. Certainly could confiscate, and POSSIBLE they could press charges.

Anyhow I'm not a overly lawful person desu. But I don't commit felonies and I contribute. I'm far more valuable out of jail then in. Having plum fiurniture isn't doesn't have criminal intent. This it was keeps you from being prosecuted. Not "am I being detained sir" shit
>>
>>30641454
Holy strawman.
I've heard of goalpost moving but this is ridiculous.

>Special Pleading fallacy
>Appeal to emotion fallacy

>Because I don't "comply" with a law that doesn't apply to me, means you should kill your wife's son because that's totally the same thing.
>>
>>30633305
>>30633391
this is viable if you have a zeroing target that actually copies the size of a 300m target to shoot at from 25m (a very small target)

this works with 5.56 and is the army standard to zero optics to 25m, not so sure about 5.45

i zeroed my kobra to 50m then zeroed to 100m which is what 5.45 and 7.62x39 are supposed to be zeroed to if you wanna be authentic. im sure theres a reason behind that.
>>
>>30641482
Fair enough.

But don't think that because your firearm is not 922(r) compliant that you are breaking the law either.

Here's another little rub about 922(r).

If a gun can be "brought into compliance" with a mag change that gun is still considered compliant.
And you need what, 7 components in an AK to be compliant?
An ALG FCG, a US made muzzle device, and an onhand US made mag can make almost every rifle "compliant".
The thing is, they don't have to be installed on the rifle at the time, you just have to own them.
>>
>>30641485
>why make it easy
>not illegal
Kek

Analogy
You are required to have a front and back license plates on your car at all times
My buddie's Porche 911 never gets pulled over for this
Some Jamal in a beat up hooptie will get pulled over without doubt

Just saying possible. Laws are just language and ideas man. No prosecutions (allegedly) isn't proof that the law lacks teeth
>>
>>30641513
side note, this works with 5.56 because the round will be center mass on a 300m target when zeroed to 25m, in calculation with the arc of the round. 5.45 is likely slightly different and you'd be better off zeroing to a longer distance than 25m.

This is much further than I've thought about 922r to be honest.

Waiting on my 104, plum furniture, izhmash triangle, maybe and SRVV brake I dunno. Oh plum and black mags without a doubt.

Also, how can "the skinhead" be so aesthetic and artistic

Just one. ONE.
It's been a law for 20+ years.
>possibility≠probability

I honestly can't wait for the day when someone is tried for 922(r) and it's wholly struck down.
It has as many teeth as a chicken.
>It had one at it's inception, but now, not even a remnant

>>30641548
>This is much further than I've thought about 922r to be honest
It's more than most do, honestly.
But I've got boredom and a nasty case of freedom that helps me decipher the law and how it applies to me.
>the "sporting" clause is unconstitutional, but I doubt it will be challenged anytime soon.

Just plum, albeit stellar examples, somehow photographs it in a way that captures his minimalist idea.

I try not to judge people on their beliefs or dispositions.
>Only on their tastes in AKs and AK accessories.

I've always thought it curious how peoples beliefs and dispositions present themselves in their rifles. You really can tell a lot about someone by a rifle that they put effort into

I ordered an Obzor for my SGL31 and it arrived yesterday, and I'm a little confused as to how to properly mount it to the rifle.

I keep reading that it has to be "properly" or "correctly" fitted to the side rail. What does that mean? I understand there is that little screw on the bottom of the mount that raises and lowers a piece of metal to squeeze tighter or looser on the rail, but how do I correctly fit it? I can get it on there really tight to where I almost need a tool of some sort to get the lever to lock all the way, but I'm just not sure what it means to properly mount it.

I don't want to take it out shooting today to sight it in only to have mounted it incorrectly and have it lose zero after cleaning the 7n6 I'll be shooting and wasting all that time.
>>
>>30643271
You just want to tune that screw until it's as tight as you can get it while still being able to open and close the mount easily by hand. Don't go overboard

that's because it's not a blemish or scratch in the finish, it's material that rubbed off on the finish, like wood dust trapped in sandpaper.

Are there any "color tipped" AK rounds? I know 5.56 has many versions of the same NATO round, so is there any analogue for 7.62x39?

Anyone got any good guides for building an AKM from a parts kit?
