Is 30 rounds the ideal magazine size?
>>
7/10 they take forever to reload without a $300 speedloader
>>
>>30592171

I guess, but it bothers me to no end that most ammo companies sell in increments of 20.
>>
>>30592209
Same as hot dog buns.
>>
>>30592171
60
>>
>>30592245
I know, it's a fucking pain in the ass having to buy two packs of 20 buns to put my 30 assault wieners in
>>
>>30592259
It just makes me buy in bulk so I don't have to do math when shopping.
>buy three 20 round boxes or just a 300 box?
>buy the 300
>>
>>30592209

So buy ammo in packs of 3 and you have enough to fill 2 mags. The wonders of math...
>>
it's the most practical physical size. Get much larger and it's unwieldy. When ammo gets smaller in the future we'll see higher capacity with the same physical size
>>
>>30592201
https://youtu.be/AnUk1aNp1PE?t=2s
>>
>>30592285
If you're buying ammo in packs of 20, you're doing it wrong.
I would start with packs of 480 or 500 if you want capitalist or commie ammo respectively
>>
I like 20 round mags when i'm shooting with friends.
1 box/per mag is easier than having to keep track of a half box when we load back up again.

When I'm just target shooting by myself I use 10 round mags so I don't use as much.
>>
>>30592171
I think there should never be limits but I think 25 round mags is a decent balance for all calibers.

30 round mags for some .308 or larger caliber rifles are huge but 20 rounds is too low a capacity in my opinion.

Some guys like 20 round mags on AR's to make it easier to shoot prone or bench.

Would 25 be a happy medium?
>>
>>30592640
I feel like 25 is a bit too half-assed to really be worth it. 5 rounds of intermediate rifle ammo doesn't really take up much space, and I think at that point most people would either say "fuck it" and go with the 30 rounders, or just use 20's for maximum comfort when shooting from a bench.
>>
.308 user here, I prefer tens (or just half-loaded twenties) for casual shooting, twenty for "practical applications"

smaller mags have a number of benefits. reloading more often makes you more adept at reloading. if cost is a factor, they also encourage ammunition conservation. and when it comes to rifle-calibers, 10 simply looks pretty.

obviously if someone were to be shooting at you, you would want as many as conveniently possible however
>>
>>30592554
Could you just load 30 round mags with 20 rounds?
>>
>>30592833
Yeah but they don't sit at the bench very well with my sandbags and stuff.

why spend all that money on an already made gun when you can easily get a block of steel and make one for cheaper?

Because cutting a pace of wood into a banana shape is a little different than having to buy a drill press and jig to accommodate.
>>
>>30592953
I don't really get why all these "aids" are even a thing? The time it takes him to organize the rounds the right way is about the same time it takes me to load a magazine by hand
>>
>>30592171
40 is ideal
>just two inch longer, 33% more capacity
>not too heavy
>stays double stack design instead of casket mags that are prone to failure
>works fine with steel
>most ammo comes in boxes of 20, takes exactly 2
>>
>>30593511
30 is ideal because its the most reliable
>>
>>30592833
Yes you could but it's added weight, and you try taking your rifle out shooting at person sized gongs and tell yourself "I'll just load 20 and the last 10 I'll pat myself on the back for self control"

>>30592842
>muh sandbags muh bench shootan

I reserve that level of autism for my .22 and turkey gun. I haven't shot an AR from a bench since I sighted in my whoracle and stuck it in the safe at my family's land.

I have 10-20-30-40 mags from a couple vendors for my AR. 30-40 are sure fun, but they stick out so far that they kind of get in the way. I'd say that 20 is actually ideal for poratability, and if you're skilled enough with reloads the difference in negligible.

Then again, I only own one 20 round magazine, because they cost just as much as 30s in most cases, so IDGAF.
>>
>>30593571

I think it's just a good number of rounds before magazines begin to get obnoxiously long.
Personally, I prefer a 10-20rd mag in all my guns. Even 30 is a bit obnoxious bs 20, and 10rd mags are just really nice size.

Yeah. AR57 makes P90 mags as well, for their AR-57 AR upper that shoot 5.7. They come in black with windows, smoked dark, and light smoke (Like the FN mags). They work very well and are compatible with each other.
>>
Hey Marisa, can I put some side rails on my PS90 if I've got the TROSUSA low profile mount on? How do they attach?
>>
For an AR-15, I tend to gravitate toward 30's. I usually shoot fewer than 100 rounds during a range session, so when I pack my range bag two or three pre-loaded 30's keep me from having to reload each mag 2-3 times. I could carry more 10's or 20's, but the 30's are convenient. It isn't like the 30's save time, as I am generally taking my time and concentrating on accuracy instead of "hurr-durr-how-many-rounds-can-I-shoot-in-a-minute." The only downside is that a 30 isn't ideal for some bench rests and can be a pain of a pivot point in the prone position without angled sights.
10-20's are nice, I have no complaints except if I only bring two mags and a box of ammo I have to waste practice time. Like 30's, mine have always seemed 100% reliable in feeding.
40-60 I see zero use for, but I wouldn't try to stop someone else who liked them from having them. They're almost impossible to store on the gun in a case or safe, there are increased reliability issues, and they are definitely unwieldy, especially in prone position. They also look a bit dorky. If I really wanted more than 20-30 rounds, I'd just use a mag clip or some rubber bands to snap two together side by side, one staggered just below the other.
The drum mags are the worst. Reliability is in the toilet, and getting a decent grip on the rifle is an iffy proposition, to the degree that if someone's opening fire at me with an AR, I can only hope they DO have a drum mag. They also look positively stupid to me, like someone's trying to make a Tommy gun/AR hybrid. I suppose it might be fun to bumpfire one while plinking, if accuracy and reliability don't matter at all.

there was a sale back in march where they were $17 each, if you bought 5 or more at once. they were real FN mags. if you bought 10 you got a shirt and hat. I'll try to hunt through my email folder for gun stuff to see if i can find it for you. it wasnt buds or classic or sportsmans guide.

also sometimes florida gun exchange has sales on 5.7 ammo, the one dude in the Ormond beach store is a bullpup guy, and there is an old guy that buys cases of it a month, so they get a bunch and sometimes have a weekend sale. dunno if its on the site or not, but the old dude is an FN freak. he knows people in the company and had FACTORY blue anodized SCARS, SLP's and FNX's. like the one the pro-team uses.

I can hold ten+ rounds of 7.62x39 in one hand, and nearly shove them straight in. Maybe takes me a few seconds per handful. 10, 15 seconds per ak mag. The fuck is wrong with you anon? Stuff those mags man!

If you are really that hard up. Just get a Lula. $35 dollars. If it's a pistol mag. Get an uplula, seriously just get one use it. It's fast as shit.

Oh and dump all of your ammo out of the holders. You don't pour shotglasses of fuel into a vehicle, you don't need to daintily pluck each individual round out of a holder.
>>
>>30593613

I'll admit, I'd be curious to see if a 45 round AR mag sticking out of the left side would be feasible or cause more problems when trying to hide close to cover.

having extra clips and loading 10 on a clip and then chunking those into a mag is actually way quicker and easier on your hands if you load a lot.
