What is the best chambering for 1911 and why is it .38 super?

i wanted to get into 1911's on the cheap so i got a taurus pt1911 9mm. so far through 5k or so rounds its only had a couple bobbles with ejecting weak ammo. and imo 9mm is better than 38 super given modern bullets and +p loads

if you buy commercial .38 super it's going to be weak, much like modern commerical 8mm Mauser is downloaded drastically to be usable in every Mauser.
You need the Buffalo Bore if you want shit that hits like a truck.
If you handload, they can be cranked up to retarded speed and any gun chambered for .38 super will be able to handle it.

It's nice that all i had to do was get a new barrel and springs and magazines for my .38 to convert it to 9mm
however it's still kind of a rock island turd so i love my .45 Colt a lot more

What springs did you have to swap to convert a .38 Super 1911 to 9mm? I would have thought they'd use the same recoil spring and mainspring, being that the two cartridges are so similar in power. Did you have to adjust the extractor at all, due to the different extractor groove/case rim dimensions?

I have shot a rental Coonan in .357 at a local indoor range. It's fun, but it's not $1500 worth of fun or $100/apiece mags worth of fun. Maybe if I won the lottery, or got a BIG raise at work, but otherwise I will have to go on living without it.

Thank God for competition shooters keeping .38 super alive. Its a great round but a waste of potential in the US market, which is more the fault of the early guns and the consumers that any failing of the cartridge
Side by side- two more rounds in a single stack 1911, flat- FLAT shooting at 100 yards compared to a .45 acp. Low recoil- I'd say 30% less than .45.
Downsides: Loud. Ammo is no longer as common or inexpensive as it once was.

I've found .38 super at Walmart. Colt, Taurus, RIA, Wilson combat, Les Baer, and Tanfoglio make .38supers. Ammo is covered from aguila and UMC to Buffalo bore and Wilson combat.
