Gentlemen, I'm thinking about selling my WASR for another AK in 556 or 545. This one is a '15 build with around 1500 or so through it, akt trigger, magpul mall ninja'd with CTR stock on RD adapter. Has a DTK-2 brake on it, but thinking about just throwing the slant back on it and selling the brake separate. What is this worth today, honestly?

Well, I'm actually trying to get away from all caliber AK's aside from 556 in order to consolidate and be able to feed all of the same rifles with the same mags and be able to stock up only on 556/223. I also have a Tavor, Sig556, and AR-15 in that caliber, and we reload to save cost... To make it even more of a PITA we have an AR-10, SCAR 17, PTR-91, M1 Garand, and M1 Carbine, among others. I'm trying to keep all of our stuff to mostly 5.56 and .308 with only a few oddball or special snowflake calibers. The WASR is the only 7.62 rifle I have at the moment and the only one I'm willing to part with, so....

I don't think it's identical to an actual 74 style brake but it is ported. It does reduce muzzle climb, and I don't think it's just because of the added weight on the end of the barrel.

So does the crapco. It's just not ported the same way as the real ones. You should have gotten an Arsenal 7.62 one and an adapter.

I don't want to get rid of mine either but I guess I'll just see what happens. I'm not going to give it away, but I'll just see if someone offers me enough. I REALLY want a fucking Beryl, but I'd be probably equally happy with an SLR-104. There's a Golani sporter up right now for $1000, if I had rid of the WASR I'd offer him 8 or 850.

I don't think you quite understood my earlier post. I'm primarily wanting to get rid of the 7.62 caliber for 5.56 (ie Beryl), but I'd pick up a 5.45 rifle it was a smoking deal, but defeats the purpose of selling the WASR. But as it is I am done trying to line up 10+ mags per rifle and having as much shit as I do. Fuck, I only have 3 magazines for my VEPR-12 and none of them are Molots, which are 100 a pop. Shit's expensive having to stack so much shit.

Okay, first off you don't adjust the windage with the rear sight, even on RPKs, that windage adjustment is for wind, not zeroing. Also there is literally so little cant that if you adjusted the front sight like you're supposed to then it'd be a none issue and you probably would hardly notice it. Finally, no one cares who the fuck you are, drop the namefag unless there is a specific reason.

In order to match the front sight being canted right, you must move the rear sight right. If you moved it left, the POA would get further and further right of the POI.

The Go/No-go gauges from AK-builder, and the rest is toth-tools for everything but the long rivets and trigger guard rivets. I originally ordered a childerguns 80% heat treated receiver two months ago and I never got it, you might have seen my posts here once in a while. I'm calling them tomorrow to either get my fucking money back or something since it "shipped" over a month ago and they're giving me the run around even though USPS never got it. I decided to just say fuck it and get a Nodak NDS-2 EZ and I'm either going to weld up the extra holes (fuck the scope rail) or give in and get a scope rail, haven't decided yet. I'm also debating on getting some Russian AK-74 wood since the Bulgarian shit that came with it is awful, plus it's that painted stuff.
>>
>>30353360
Hmm... I just bought a Tantal kit that should be here tomorrow. Been waffling between Childers and Nodak. Childers for custom serial to match kit but I think you just made my kind up for me. Nodak it is. I'm putting on rail because why not.

Im going with toth instal/removal and population kit for Tantal. Figure I'll try it over my press.

>being a white guy who can only get non-white chicks
I messed around with white broads in my high school years but always liked the spic and filipino women the best, idk why. All of the white women who were decent looking were fucking insufferable. I don't regret it either though, most all of my friends who went on to date or marry a WESTERN white women got fucked somehow and usually ended up getting their house and half their shit smoked from them. The only white women I'd even bother with are Eastern European one, but I never got to go to Poland or Serbia like I wanted to.
>>
>>30353383
>>30353393
The tothtool stuff seems a lot easier to not fuck up, that's the main reason I went with it, although getting the stuff off might not be too fun. Yeah, I was originally going to get one of those plum kits off rguns but they ran out so I went with the wood. I was going to replace it with US made stuff anyway which I might still do. Idk, a lot of tough choices. Hell originally I was just going to send it off to a builder but apparently no one builds off of blanks unless they're inhouse or they charge a bunch for it. I also ordered one of those Bulgarian barrels off of K-var. Decent barrels, the only problem is they don't have the cut out for the handguard retainer pin/lever so that will have to be milled out, oh yeah, also the gas port hole is about three degrees off to the right. FML. This whole thing is turning into a money pit and I regret not just buying a headspaced and populated kit off AK-builder and going with a 100% receiver to begin with. Oh yeah, and finally, when I was getting the grease off the parts I royally fucked up the finish on the parts, so in order to fix that I bought a media/abrasive gun that broke within ten minutes of getting it. So now I'm just kinda sitting here wanting to kill myself

Damn man... Far as the gas port goes, I drilled mine off center a bit on accident. Figured fuck it and put the gas block on anyway. plenty of air still flows through so whatever. It should work. Unless your gas port is like, way off it should be fine. Mines pretty off center and it works fine, if you notice the hole on the gas block is like 4mm for a 2mm hole. I would get a hand file and carve the retainer slot with it personally. If the extractor clearance isn't cut though... Fuck

Yeah, I got the gas block on part way, just a little tap with a mallet to keep it from spinning, and it shouldn't be too bad, still a bit frustrating to pay $240 something for it and have it all fucked up.

They're Bulgarian CHF chrome-lined senpai. I didn't want to cheap out on some American made one, although maybe in retrospect a GMB would have been fine.
>I can't image it would be much worse that filing the pin off my VEPR muzzle nut. Obviously you'd want to be cleaner and more precise than pic related but, took me like 15 minutes.
Barrels are a lot harder than muzzle nuts, plus the size of the groove has to be pretty small AND clean. Probably just going to stick with getting it in the mill and cutting the groove.

put the original everything back on it
sell it bone stock but offer the accessories as extras

once you sell the base AK, sell any accessories the buyer didn't want individually on AK files or eBay

don't try to sell your rifle all kitted out
you built the rifle up in your vision and it's unlikely anyone else has the same vision for the rifle
if they do, great, you can sell the the accessories too
if they don't, great, you've got spare accessories to put on your new AK

you gotta dress your product for sale, just like setting a house before realtors and prospective buyers arrive

I was actually hired off the street as a supervisor; nobody in the building wanted the position so they had to hire outside of the company. As for moving up to supervisor, I honestly couldn't tell you. I'd probably convey your desire to become a supervisor to either your manager or supervisor and then wait patiently until someone gets moved up or, much less likely, fired.

I don't actually think we have anyone moving skids in the yard on the LS. Our center is so fucked up that everyone who's come to it from outside of the state has cocked their head sideways at everything we do. The only exception is the LS manager, but he's one of those new hires that came in from the expansion in Texas and has no reason to be in his current position.

Yeah, someone was kind enough to photoshop the background out of the original, which was pretty cool to begin with.
I'd just got the gun and needed to shoot it. It was so cold and windy that day that the promag the gun came with seized up and wouldn't feed after a few mins. I brought the gun inside and iced up instantly, so I had to go grab the camera. I went out again at ~0 degrees and the promag worked fine.

I've got around 600 rounds of 7n6 left (bought a 5.45 Saiga after the 7n6 ban and never bothered to buy much simply because it was already around the same price as non corrosive new ammo). I've also got close to 6000 rounds of new production 5.45, mostly that sealed Barnaul stuff and Silver Bear.

What should I do with the 600 rounds of 7n6? Should I shoot it before i continue to dig into my non corrosive stash or should I pack it away and save it?

Wew nice

I'd just shoot the 7n6, the can is already open and the Slav time capsule magic is gone. If you want to keep it put it in an ammo can with a good lubricated rubber seal in a room with low humidity and throw in some fresh desiccant packs for good measure. The corrosive primers do have a longer shelf life than non-corrosive primers, but keep in mind said corrosive primers already have 30+ years of age on them already.
>>
>>30357754
Yeah that's what I was thinking, it's already opened so just get it out of the way. I'm still on the fence about picking up some sealed 7n6 simply for long term storage in case I need it for something and just to have a few tins of it for the cool factor, but I'm extraordinarily lazy and hate the more involved cleaning that comes with it (I just end up stripping the rifle down and taking a shower with it and we get to bond) so I might just shoot it to get the more involved cleaning out of the way.

Went through the linked threads, looking for specific advice for my situation.

1. I don't know anything about rifles, but looking for an AK.

2. Visited 2 local stores near my house in Maine. Both carried various brands or "could order" even more, everything $750 and up. One (say, store A) warned me against RAS47 (due to build quality, barrel type [chrome or something?] etc). Recommended the "M70" ($749.99)

The other (store B) RECOMMENDED the RAS47 and said anyone "on the internet" talking against it and mentioning crooked sights (?) or whatever was full of shit and the build quality was fine.

Opinions? B strongly recommended the Ras47, price was $750 and change. A, as mentioned, specifically said they were not very well built, etc. I dunno what the fuck.

I asked about the WASR at store B after reading good reviews of it online, and the guy at store B said "I don't think you can get those anymore, I havent seen them in a long time". But I've seen them for sale "new" right online myself?? Not sure how that works.

I would just order online but online ordering is confusing as fuck (I'd have to pay a local store to receive the gun anyways, then hand it to me? Uh....) and I'd like to do a lay-a-way type thing with an actual physical store with an owner, so I can kind of keep the expense from the wife, hahahah. $100 a week at the range is not a problem....dropping $700 for a gun...shit brix.

P.S. don't ever get married.

Thanks for any advice, it is appreciated. Sorry if the format is off, I have never visited here before and hope at least the thread is correct.
>>
>>30359069

P.S.

The price list I was given at one store for their availability was:

M70 $759
Ras47 $749
M7Out $799

Don't know if that matters, but there it is.

Seems kind of high to me? I have looked online and it seems like people are talking about picking up WASRs for $600 and change? Is that true? Can you get them still??

Avoid the RAS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vs7eK2SmGYM

You're better off to just save up cash in a separate account and just purchase what you want in one go after doing your research on what you want to purchase.
Either way, your wife is going to ask questions about a brand new rifle and where the cash came from, so you're probably better off actually talking with her about it, or just man up and fucking get it. You're not going to listen to her anyway, and she'll be pissed either way.

As for buying funs online, just go to your FFL of choice (preferably one that has a reasonable rate for transfers) and ask them if they'll do the transfer, if they say yes, get their FFL info and send it via email to whatever store you buy your rifle online after you complete the purchase.
That or make your purchase and give your FFL the order number, they'll email or fax the store themselves.

It's all pretty easy, you're just too lazy or too dumb to actually look into it, or use a slight amount of common sense.

P.S.
Get the WASR or save up a little extra and get an Arsenal SLR107. Both are bretty gud
>>
>>30357901
>taking a shower with it and we get to bond
Kek. I use the shower method too. I only shoot what (opened) corrosive I have when I plan on shooting a lot in one session. One mag of corrosive is not worth the amount of effort it takes to properly clean up afterwards. And I'm definitely not going to be buying any more 7n6 as range ammo now that it costs as much as non-corrosive.

I might keep some of the 7n6 I have opened right now though because it's from 1976, only two years after the 74 went into production, which I think is cool as hell. Had I known how to interpret the cans at the time I never would have opened that stuff. The crates I have now are mid 80's I think.
>>
>>30359069
>One (say, store A) warned me against RAS47
They're right, the RAS is probably the worst non-IO AK available stateside at the moment.
>Recommended the "M70" ($749.99)
If it's one of the legit M70 builds that CAI outsourced, they're solid as all hell and look cool to boot. Great if you don't really want to do anything to it after getting it.

You can still readily get WASRs, and they very solid, customizable rifles.

>B strongly recommended the Ras47

They were trying to take you for a hell of a ride. Not only is the RAS shit, that's really overpriced. M70 is pretty good but still a little expensive, just make sure you check for all the standard things; cant, mag wobble, etc.

>One mag of corrosive is not worth the amount of effort it takes to properly clean up afterwards
Back when it was like 10c/r and my main food, I'd use corrosive even if I went out to take 10 shots.
I'd just spray the insides of the rifle with remoil and snake it and swab the chamber quick.
Never rusted a bit.
All that laziness meant was I had to treat anything I shot as corrosive until I properly cleaned my gun. But at least I could keep up with corrosive ammo in under 5 mins of work. I kept this up for a year straight at least, shooting my ak-74 often. I quit doing it once 7n6 got over 15c/r and it just wasn't worth using over noncorrosive ammo.

You don't have the skills or tools needed to build an AK. It isn't like throwing some parts together in your bedroom like an AR.

I love it. My only complaint about it is the price (they went up sometime this year and that put them in Aimpoint PRO territory prices) and it's rather heavy (but AKs are naturally front heavy and the weight of the Obzor helps balance the weight out evenly on the rifle).

It's definitely high, but I still get a decent chin weld and after getting used to that I found it really comfortable. It's gotten to the point that I'm so used to it that when I take the Obzor off the rifle and go to shoulder it I automatically go for a chin weld and end up too high to use the irons so I have to correct myself.
>>
>>30360558
unless you have a decent machine shop or otherwise are able to cut, rivet, and weld(?) a blank cutout of a lower receiver you kinda need to just buy the AK.

The reciever is the "gun" legally and our lovely laws prevent selling of a functional AK reciever. theyre not quite the Lego guns that AR15s are and will cost you more money to make yourself without your own machine shop than it would cost to buy outright. part kits come with everything but the reciever and rivets
>>
>>30360704
if it was ~400-450 at most i'd buy one anyway but now theyre hitting prices of high tier red dots and it's very hard not to say fuck it on aesthetics and go for function.

though that recticle is delicious and may still be a deciding factor.

One guy on AKfiles imports them and sells them for $440 shipped.

Gunsmith =/= Someone who can build an AK

It's a full on fabrication process. You're not understanding just how involved and in depth it is.

Watch Flandre build this for an idea.
>>
>>30360825
arsenal probably makes most of the better individual parts and they have the best barrels far as I know.

the highest tier AK you can get your hands on will probably be the actual gun from arsenal with maybe some fancy aftermarket triggers or springs, but I can't think of too many ways to get an AK to shoot better than having a good barrel.

basically we're saying that if you want the BEST AK you basically buy the best AKs on the market, there arent exactly too many people making extremely high end parts for an AK because the average joe can't sit in his garage and replace those parts in 5 minutes.

building AKs is generally how you get cheap AKs for cheaper than retail on the actual rifle.

Order from Atlantic if you want a layaway. As for transferring them, it's not hard. Assuming Atlantic has your FFL's info on file you simply select them at check out from the FFL list, chance are they probably do if the store is in a city or large town, and then go there and pay the transfer. The only problem is sometimes small shops will charge ridiculous amount for a transfer (like $40+) however most reasonable shops will charge $15-20 for a transfer. It's really simple, all they do is ship it to your local shop, and you fill out the 4473 like you would any other gun, barring stupid state law stuff. and pay them the transfer fee. Sometimes shipping can be a bit much but just depends. Now if they don't have your FFL on file then it's still pretty simple, you order it, give the store you're ordering from your local FFL's info, and then give your local FFL the order number and other info that they ask for, and the local FFL will fax a copy of their FFL to who you're ordering from and then it will go on as usual.

Well back before the ban 7n6 was all I shot, but it was so cheap I'd never shoot just one mag. I'd load 45 rounders up and just blast away. It'd cost like $3.50 for a full magazine so fuck it.

Now that I know I can no longer replace my 7n6 for the same price I bought it at, I'm less apt to use it wastefully, which means it's more common that I'll only shoot one or two mags of it. I haven't shot corrosive through any of my guns in quite some time now actually.

Alright /akg/,

Playing with ideas again on what to do with this rifle. This has always kind of been a back burner rifle, so my vision for it has changed a lot over the years as other rifles have joined the collection.

I'll be getting a drill press here shortly and therefore finally equipped to fuck with the FSP / Gas block. Here's what I'm thinking currently.

> TWS Dogleg dust cover / top rail.
> Venom Tactical gas block / front sight.
> UltiMAK M1B gas tube.
> Black polymer AK lower hand guard.
> Thread barrel for 1/2-28 and fit with my choice of muzzle device.

The idea is I can mount my optic (currently have a spare PA Microdot, SPARC II, and ACOG) on the TWS dogleg, and use the rail space on the ultimak for a light mount or sling point, etc.

I think it would also help this ugly fucker in the aesthetic department. What do you guys think?

Not as much demand for them as 7.62 mags which come in by the boat load, so the price is higher.

Apex. Back-loaders work, but surplus top-loaders are just too based to not be #1.
>>
>>30362809
>>30362845
are top loaders inferior in terms of longterm storage? vs full backloader with no tension
>>
>>30362925
That's not how springs work, so they're both likely about equal in terms of long-term storage.
>>
>>30362914
Too bad they don't have a 100 round top loader.
>>
>>30362845
>>30362914
So nowhere less than $125? I see the rear loaders go sometimes in the $70-80 range, but I don't need a second drum that bad, as good as it looks.
>>
>>30362925
Doesn't matter.
>>
>>30362945
Did the ruskis ever make drums?

What's one worth? Are there issues when shipping magazines from those sort of countries to burgerland?
>>
>>30362954
They used to be way cheaper. Hell I remember a two years ago I order two of those Romanians off Apex for about $50 a piece, for some stupid reason I returned them because they would have required modification to fit in my rifles PLUS they're just heavy as fuck

yeah, SGammo has em listed for $89, out of stock of course.

I guess I'll see if they ever come back. If not I'll pony up, or get lucky.
>tfw got my chink rear loader still in 80s cosmoline for $50 on Armslist 3-4 months after Sandy Vag
Couldn't believe it when the guy actually responded to my email. He could have gotten 4x that.
>>
>>30362996
When they're fully loaded they're not exactly comfy for range shooting. Also they're just clunky and get in the way. I still regret returning them though
>>
>>30363012

I got a romanian 75 round rear loader off sportsmans guide like a month ago with a coupon for $80.
>>

If they didn't, I want to know who the hell supplied them with the drum mags for their RPKs.
>>30362954
I got mine for $90 about a year and a half ago from SGAmmo. Just about everything AK-related these days is more expensive than it used to be (just another reason the AR market has exploded).

I meant that there is a larger aftermarket and more ammo for AKMs than for 74s
>>
>>30364012
well, AKM magazines are cheaper and more available. Like I said before mostly all akm stocks/attachments will fit on ak74s. As far a ammo goes, the prices end up being around the same. Availability of ammo depends on your local stores/gun shops. There is a lot more variety to 7.62x39 than 5.45. With 5.45 there is pretty much just fmj and ballistic tip while there are things like soft point, Hollow point, and plenty of other hunting loads with 7.62x39. I honestly prefer 5.45.

So I picked up a WASR-10 today, along with a few magazines.

Polymer magazines (two PMags, two Thermolds, and a Bulgarian 40 round) fit just fine, but the steel 20 rounder is extremely tight on the mag release and both the steel 30 rounders won't latch at all. Any advice on fixing that, or am I screwed for steel mags?
>>
Not sure if this thread is still alive, but I have a side folding m&m m10 and am looking for another similarly priced ak; preferably one with a fixed stock. My primary concern for this one is reliability in a shtf situation. Any recommendations? I heard the c39 v2 is pretty nice but I'd like some options.

I know this is taken from a videogame, but which is correctly sighted? Is it personal preference? Seems like if you were aiming at something tiny it'd be a huge pain in the ass to have the middle pin obscuring whatever you're trying to hit

It can be, but the right-most is generally correct.
I put my point of impact right on the top of my post.
So if I was shooting at a sparrow for instance, I'd put my sights so it looks like it's sitting right on the top of my post.

Usually when it's built in a competent manner.

Those M70AB2s were built for Century by a company that actually knew how to go about it, the result being a very solidly built clone of a Yugo underfolder AK, complete with GL sight. The only downside was that they came with these awful, horrible looking plastic handguards.

Your Barnaul definitely has a thinner lacquer in that pic. My stuff was ever so slightly thinner but not nearly that big of a difference. I see what you were talking about now.

Likely they're getting scooped up by 3rd world arsenals, because you see them in every "sniper" photo in the middle-east-conflict generals. Replacement barrels are impossible to get in the US, at this point.

Here's the story I heard... Whether it's true or not? IDK
A batch of them came into the country with evil 3rd holes in the receivers, and the ATF or whoever pretty much stomped out the imports on them.
But, I've also seen the importation of the psl scopes go to zero. I used to buy them for 100 bucks each and throw on all my rifles. I currently have 5, and they're worth a ton more now than they were then since the imports seem to have stopped for years at this point.
IIRC, the scopes kept coming in long after the rifle imports stopped.

PSLs are odd ducks. For the longest time, they were considered "Sporting" and didn't need US parts because they never had evil features. Then they started shipping a handful with bayonet lugs. Like someone in the Cugir factory keeps pushing the "make a normal AK" button every now and then.
