>>
>>30202403
Depends on the country. Austria, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Croatia, Romania, Hungary, Czech Republic, Belgium, Luxembourg, sure. Maybe Greece and Italy, too. Don't know anything about Portugal or Spanish gun laws.

The rest of them probably not. UK if you have a MARS trigger. Ireland not a chance.

Does anybody have a chart listing the "tiers" of AK's similar to the SKS one?

I checked the sticky and there didn't seem to be anything specifically about AK's.

I'm planning on getting one within the next few paychecks and I want to do my research on the types, variants and quality of each type/variant before giving away my money.

>I'm planning on getting one within the next few paychecks and I want to do my research on the types, variants and quality of each type/variant

It's gonna take a lot longer than that to figure out all the variants.

If you're on a budget, WASR
Slightly higher budget, DDI
Higher still, Arsenal
Money no object, custom build from a reputable builder (preferably not a Rifle Dynamics)

>Here's all the AK variants, in bound form. It's a lot.
>>
>>30202757
>preferably not a Rifle Dynamics

Elaborate? I know their rifles are retard-expensive, but are they actually bad quality?
>>

No, but they are very overpriced for what they are.

Does anybody know if a vepr is NY legal? (Suffolk)

http://www.gunbroker.com/Item/563627465

Also anyone know if these are good rifles?
>>
>>30202757
Ah, well I don't quite mean every single Kalashnikov ever made, really just the major popular variants.

Let's say that my budget will lie between $800 - $1200 (maximum, stretching it at that). What particular manufacturers should I be wary of and which ones should I look towards? Which country? Stuff like that.

Thanks for the info.
>>
>>30202795
>http://www.gunbroker.com/Item/563627465
veprs are very solid rifles. non standard furniture being the biggest con but imagine youll leave it as is, being in NY and all
>>
>>30202795
Never fired or felt one but theyre built on an RPK reciever which is a little bit thicker than the standard reciever(0.5mm I think). I've heard nothing but good things about them.
>>
>>30202814
everyone has different opinions bc that price range gets you a lot of options. despite the current paint issues, i still believe the slr series is the preferable option.
>>
>>30202765
>>30202776
Shit, hit post before I finished.

For the same 2k, you could get a good builder to build a great rifle of your choosing with a new combloc CHF chrome lined barrel.

With a RD you're getting a US made barrel and the "Rifle Dynamics" trigger job (not necessary and if you want a perfectly smooth action 10 minutes and a honing stone will do the same. So will shooting it.), the "Fuller" rear sight mod (cutting the rear notch bigger and rounding the edges), and a bolton gas block.

No builder worth his salt uses bolton gasblocks.
>>
>>30202844
>despite the current paint issues, i still believe the slr series is the preferable option
I agree with this, but they're pretty much gone (107s except the UR) until next year.
So unless a 104 is what he's looking for, he's probably going to have to scrounge the secondary market for a 107.
>>
>>30202844
>>30202847
>>30202882
Ok, so I'm not quite looking in the collectors market, rather I'm looking more for a SHTF Insurance AK (I.E. Shitlary becomes pres.). I don't quite want a cheap one which, while it will work fine, may be subject to easy damage. I want one that's reliable as well as extremely solid as well, which is why my budget lies in the intermediate range.

So I'm pretty much looking for a standard AK-47 of very good build quality. Hopefully that helps describe what I'm looking for.
>>
>>30202882
i agree with what youre saying. you might be paying a little bit more bc of current inventory, but its not so bad right now. for example
>http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_7_122/1538240_WTS___Arsenal_107f_Tan_7_62x39_New_without_box.html

I never said it was worse than IO. I said they had enough problems to be pretty comparable. There aren't many companies that have put out worse products than IO.
>>
>>30203014
I'm not entirely sure. My brother's SKS shoots 7.62x39, I like it well enough. I've never had a chance to fire 5.45x39 or 5.56.45 before, so I can't speak for those.

Probably standard 7.62x39 I guess.
>>
Just bought my first ak, and I want to stain the furniture to be a little darker because I like that look better.

Anyone know of a good product to use for this?
>>
>>30203500

Best SHTF AK right now is an SLR-107FR if you can find one. Next best would be a WASR 10 or a DDI.

The true best SHTF rifle is an AR-15 though. Way easier to find ammo, magazines, and parts than any AK.
>>
>>30203208
I guess I'll adjust it, haven't even gotten to "shit AKs do not buy."
>>
>>30202688

The sgl31 is a converted saiga, that's not a plus it's a heavily hacked up sporter at the end of the day in ak form.
>>
>>30203660

You don't replace parts on a ak like a AR besides springs, vs the AR were the parts don't last.
>>
>>30203191
Not for a little while probably. But after this shipment there will be another break
>>
>>30203726
Or break a gas tube or some stupid roll pin. GL "surviving" in the mountains for a decade with muh Larue meme
>>
>>30203714
No it's not. It comes in sporter configuration with none of the welds that are needed if someone bought a base model Saiga.

I.E. They come in like an SGL-10 ready to be made into a SGL-21 or 31. They don't need to be welded unlike the IZ-240s etc.
>>
>>30203660
Fucking damn man, SLR's are expensive af. I don't expect to get my hands on one of those until I actually have a career established.

The WASR looks pretty good though. I'm confused though, is WASR a type/variant/model, or is that a manufacturer?

Also I'm not all too fond of AR's.
>>
>>30203660
Wish people would stop with this shtf muh common ammo/mags rifles

In a proper shtf if anyone runs out of rifle ammo theyre going to bushwhack the first poor bastard they stumble across and steal their shit and skull fuck their corpse

Second if you're getting into firefights in a shtf you won't last 2 months with unlimited ammo and food

Third a pistol and hand full of mags is going to be the best shtf combo because rifles and all those imaginary mags/plate carriers with a backpack full of food is going to be heavy yo and based on the average body type all these shtf "preppers" they're going to die from heat exhaustion and dehydration

Is it worth it to buy an aftermarket -74 style brake for my WASR?
>>
>>30204387
It'll help sure, but it's kinda faggot on a 14x1 7.62 rifle. WASRs are kinda tough to fine something that doesn't clash with it. I'd go with something really simple

Nothing special, it was just the standard 74 brake throughout the majority of the 80s before being replaced by the current 74M brake in 1990. I'm looking for one to fit the look of my rifle as I'm slowly making it resemble a late 80s Soviet Afghan War AKS-74.

Yes but a fixed stock wasn't even a question, the question pertained to an SLR-104FR which has a folding stock anyways. Of course it is hard to put a folding stock on a rifle with a fixed stock, you need a new trunnion and new cuts in the receiver. However, the gun in question is an SLR-104FR.

No, I was specifically talking about the variables in the projectiles, and the powder charges.

You see that a lot with shit middle-eastern ammo, where it seems like they crammed whatever powder was on hand in the case and shipped it out the door.

On the other hand, some of it is very nice and consistent, like M67, S&B, PPU and the like.

The most accurate rifle in the world isn't worth a damn if the ammo sucks.
>>
>>30207819
Range: 300-400m
Variables:
Barrel length
Twist
Type of gas system
Bullet weight
Materials used in bullet and its actual shape and design
The powder used
Air resistance
Type of muzzle device
Literally anything can be a variable in determining effectiveness out at a distance

>You see that a lot with shit middle-eastern ammo, where it seems like they crammed whatever powder was on hand in the case and shipped it out the door.

Oh right, so you can have shitty powders that won't blow the gun up when they're fired? They just shoot poorly?

>rifling

How much fast does rifling properly "wear out" and mitigate a gun's accuracy? Sorry if thats a broad question.

>Type of gas system

I thought all AKs used the same gas system?
I know direct impingement is more accurate (but fouls more easily), are there any AK variants that I can point out?

We're only talking the 47 in class but really all media groups call every AK variant a 47......even though there are heaps of different kinds.

Useful replies, I'll screepcap them and review them later when I look up the specific stuff like ammo types.
>>
>>30207922
That depends on the type of rifling, the velocity of the rounds, the construction of the barrel, any finish applied, the construction of the bullets, the rate of fire, etc. I believe for a 7.62x39 you can expect upwards of 30k with slow semiauto fire. Continuous full auto can destroy barrels in as little as 5k rounds but good luck holding it with bare hands even getting close to that number.

They do use the same gas system in general. Some guns have shut off valves that stop the gas from cycling the action. Also the question posed asked about effective range not accuracy, there are a lot of other factors that are effecting accuracy.

Nitride is relatively new and, for the most part, unproven. On paper, it's supposed to be equal or even better than chrome lining, but so far nothing has shown up to prove this.
>>
>>30209725
Already hold the 07, so it'll just be another 50 a year for the 08. ATF form 6 seems to have no inherent cost. My only real problem is the 2250 ITAR tax, but if I'm getting bakelite mags at 7 a piece for 30 and 15 for a 45, I can probably at least even out on mags alone. Here's hoping the licenses can be done within the next few months though
>>
>>30209717
What's so misinformed over wanting a barrel that cleans easier and objectively has minimized wear? Misinformed is thinking that the only benefits chrome lining has is being more resistant to corrosive ammunition.
>>
>>30208830
I bought mine brand new from ebay for $60 about a month ago
>>
>>30209750
Reading comprehension will serve you well in life if you use it. If you read my earlier response, I talk about the PRACTICALITY of it. When regular steel barrels already have a long lifetime before being shot out, then what is the practicality of getting a chrome lined barrel? If you're a gas station employ, walking into a gun shop with only $500 in hand, and you want an AK, the best option is the most practical at that point. There is nothing wrong with chrome lining, but it really is just a bow on the already wrapped package (just make sure the tape is straight).
>>
>>30209815
I'm talking about practicality as well, there is no need to be hostile. Longer barrel life is longer barrel life, no matter how you slice it. Chrome lined barrel objectively offer a longer barrel life. That can be a very practical feature, especially if you're talking about a rifle like the AK where changing out barrels is not a small affair. And, again, there is the markedly easier job of cleaning that it offers as well. There's nothing wrong with unlined barrels, especially in the current ammo environment where corrosive surplus 7.62x39 is, at best, something for collectors, but chrome lining objectively offers better life and cleaning for the barrel. All of this at the cost of a minuscule amount of accuracy.

It's not just the chrome lining issue, it's the fact that the barrels aren't CHF. Also nitriding and the gorillion different proprietary processes and ways of doing it haven't really been proven yet. One of the big defaults used by people trying to justify it is
>well hurr the new Army sniper rifle uses a similar process
Totally ignoring that the volume and rate of fire coming out of a bolt action DMR or similar rifle and something that chances are in it's lifetime, going to get raped by magdumps, are totally different. I'd bet my left nut that if you took two identical post sample AK's and ran them through the same course of fire, the only difference being the one has a button rifled nitrided barrel and one has a chrome lined CHF of either Bulgarian, Polish, or Russian origin, that the latter would outlast the former.

For availability and price, I'd say get either the Arsenal SLR-106 or the Zastava PAP85. I have the Arsenal and I fucking love it. I think now is the time to get AK's chambered in 5.56 nato/223 as they are still somewhat unpopular because many people don't feel that it's a "real ak" in that round, and a lot of these guns got a bad rep a few years back for "reliability" issues that were either related to shitty magazines or lack of a proper feed ramp on barrels. The Arsenal has good magazines available, though they are a bit pricey. I hear the 223 ProMag magazines are actually decent and will feed reliably, but I haven't tried any yet. The Zastava already has a mag adapter from the factory to take AR magazines, which is a huge plus as those magazines are cheap and plentiful.

Where in the fuck did you get I.O. from my original post? Of course I know I.O. is shit you dumbass. I was asking about InterARMS High Standard rifles. Two totally different things.

Does anyone have any relevant info on it or is /k/ as low on High Standard reviews as everywhere else?

My grandpa bought a two story house for $9,000 back in the fifties, therefore I too am going to expect that all houses should also still be that price or lower years later and shit on people who didn't do the same thing he did many years ago.

I did some googling and found this discussion about chf vs button vs cut barrels.

https://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=1135726

It didn't seem like chf is a big advantage over button

That's unfortunate. Hopefully Radom gets approvals on what they're trying to bring to the US at least.
>>
>>30210753
Yea, Radom wants to bring in 25,000 (!!!) Beryls this year but the ATF if of course giving them a hard time.
