1. you'd need another machine
2. you'd need to be able to get the materials at a cost cheap enough
3. you'd need to be able to make enough in a reasonable timeframe
4. what reason should someone have to put up money to fund you, then pay you again to make patches for them when they can have it made cheaper, faster, and have some form of guarantee that they'll even get the patches, let alone them being of quality by using an established company?

I'd make it part of the deal that if they donated $10 or something like that I'd make them a patch if they provided an image I can work with. I just wanna see some competition, it looks like everything is bottle necked so that one image has to refined 10 times before it produced, then there is a long waiting period. I've only been lurking here for about 4 weeks though, I guess I could be wrong.

I'm not saying I could be any faster or better, but I thought that another gateway would make I faster/cheaper for people collectively.

yeah, one at a time

>I'd make it part of the deal that if they donated $10 or something like that I'd make them a patch if they provided an image I can work with

The guys here are doing 100+ at a time
If you want to do 1 offs, go for it, but you'll never make up your investment

Look at some of the guys stock of patches
NEET for example only gets 100 at a time and they stick around for quite awhile

Imagine how long it's going to take to make up the amount you're looking at

This would be exclusively for one offs, because you'd never be able to make it in enough quantity for the sellers here

These guys are probably buying them in mass from China anyways.

>one at a time
I'm not sure, but I bet they're ordering from places like this. Obviously, if they order 100 and they don't go through it quickly, then someone can do just the border by hand for the 10 that will actually be sold.

Your own argument about quantity goes against itself.

Your only point that makes sense is that it would take forever to get my money back, but I bet people would be more willing to send designs if there was someone to do custom patches for individual customers.
>>
>>30180243
>I'm not sure, but I bet they're ordering from places like this

Alibaba is just the marketplace. There are thousands of embroidery shops out there and many that you can locally find no matter where you live. There is no secret sauce in making these things. They are commodity items. Everyone who has sold patches on /k/ has ended up ripping people off over the last 10 years. These guys are poor at running a little store, they get orders confused and lost, and anons end up not getting product or money back. That's how it's always gone here and will continue to go here.
>>
>>30180521
>>30180511
I loved his video if for no other reason than it pissing off so many of you. I post it whenever I get a change as discussion turns to making just one patch at a time.

He showed a totally viable method for making one at a time. I do enjoy how angry he made you with that video.
>>
>>30180434
ty sempai
>>
You'll find that doing one-off patches is not the most economical of things because you have to digitize it (basically you're making the instructions that tell the machine how to embroider the design). It's not just lol here's image, gib patch. If you're going to buy an embroidery machine do it for the hell of it, not because you're trying to make money. As others have mentioned you are battling outfits that do this professionally and have economy of scale on their side. Whether it's buying materials in bulk, they're digitizing for 100 patches at a crack, or because they have experience and know what the fuck they are doing, you're outclassed

I have used Chinese outfits before (not alibaba) and purchased hundreds/thousands of patches from them at a time. Quality is usually okay but they do have their quirks. American-made does not always equal high quality and at the same time Chinese-made does not mean an absence of quality.
>>
>>30180536
we're more angry at him for being a total faggot in general. he's basically that guy who kills the party the moment he enters the room because no one likes him.
>>
>>30180568
You don't really have a party. What you have is an advertising thread and your anger shows how much of a threat he is to your meager patch sales.

I love when you all cry to the mods that I'm advertising a video that's not mine. That shows what length you will go to try and eliminate a threat that you can't can't rid of. Knowledge is free, and he's giving away a way to not have to buy from you.

Usually companies like to proudly declare which country they're from if they're not from China, but I just sent them an e-mail ask just that.

I've gotten many nice things from alibaba, including string used to make modern bow/crossbow strings. They've lasted longer than the string that came stock with the "American" crossbows I use.

>They sell them all, just not...
You're back tracking there, in my opinion.

>I've gotten many nice things from alibaba
Me too, the ones crying about quality have the most to lose when anons figure out that anyone get into the patch business for about $100. They ones making the most noise in this thread are the ones who are using chinese suppliers and don't want anyone to know.
>>
>>30180901
The only problems I've seen from China are when you try to buy cheap or don't check the suppliers quality.
>>
>>30181055
And there's the beauty of a market were buyers can freely review sellers. Bad sellers are rooted out pretty quickly and new sellers have to earn business. The stronger quality sellers survive and the fly by night sellers are gone pretty quickly. It's not like embroidery is putting a rocket in space. The machines are only a few thousand dollars at the entry level.

It's basically what Mutiny Shop does but even worse. Anyone who has used Mutiny Shop for something with detail can say they look like total ass. Printing out something meant to be a patch only works well when it's a very simplistic design.

>>30179265

>>
>>30182156
Yeah hot cutting is the other main method of finishing a patch

I'm going to buy a merrow machine and an embroidery machine and make a bunch of anime one-offs on camo pattern fabrics for no reason other than because I want to
>>
>>30180524
>Everyone who has sold patches on /k/ has ended up ripping people off over the last 10 years. These guys are poor at running a little store, they get orders confused and lost, and anons end up not getting product or money back. That's how it's always gone here and will continue to go here.

Literally 1 guy did it and potentially DMC if he doesn't figure his shit out

I really wouldn't mind doing it just because I wanna. I built a $1,000 gaming rig just to edit shitty youtube poop videos and play video games.

I bought $500 worth of reloading materials because I wanna reload my own ammunition.

I'm thinking about buying a used canon t5 rebel that's $400 just for fun.

I guess in turn I don't have a fancy sports car that I have to pay $200 insurance every month, but I'm fine.
>>
>>30182515
Yet. You will be. It always happens, that's why these little stores pop up and go down so fast.
>>

it's probably more the fact that putting hundreds of letters/mailers into the mailstream by yourself is a pain in the ass after a while, especially if you don't have the means to do it easily (thermal printer and address importing software)

The 18 patches I've purchased and received say otherwise
>>
>>30182707
No, it's not really a good price at all. The T5 is old. The T5i is newer and more featured. If you want a budget entry DSLR get a new T3i.
>>
>>30182745
fag
>>
>>30182624
no, there's a lot of money in it. it's just that it's a lot of labor too. your costs are basically $1-3 a patch which you're selling at $6-9. buyer is paying for shipping. what you're really losing is the time associated with it because you pick the order, bag it/put it in envelope/stamp/label/etc but if you just do it while watching tv or whatever it passes by fast. it kind of sucks when you have like 100-200 orders and you're one manning it. i've done fulfillment in warehouses that didn't pay as much per hour as selling patches would.
>>
>>30182624
>there's no money in it unless you rip off some people

Unless you do it for reasons OTHER than money
>>
>>30182762

>>
>>30182767
The T5 is actually newer than the T5i. T3i is even older. a T5 is just fine for most people. Camera is only one part of the equation; if he puts it on a tripod and/or has a lot of light in the form of lamps, flashes, or the sun he'll do just as well as if he had another more expensive camera. Pricewise I have no clue if $400 CAD is good because I'm running around with a 5D3 and a bunch of L lenses so I haven't kept up with anything below that.
>>

>>30182834
400 CAD would be about 310 USD, so maybe it's not too bad of a deal, depending on the condition of the camera and if you're getting any accessories bundled with it.
>>
>>30182895
Now we wait for him to claim Rhodie camo is one of them
>>
>>30182834
The T5 is at best buy for $400 new. The T5i is $600 for the body/18-55 kit lens. The big difference is feature, the big drawback for me would be the lack of external mic jack. It's nice for run and gun when you don't want or need a secondary off camera audio source.
>>
>>30182922

Got some results from a different manufacturer, for Op-chan. They're limited in ability for making Woven Patches, but I'm a bit wary on making it an embroidered patch

>>30182991
Always see these dealers at cons as well, though it irks me when I see they're mostly iron-on patches and over-priced. ($15 for an bad quality Hellsing patch nope.avi). Though did try to trade with my patches, but outright refused because of thepresence of velcro
>>
>>30183104
I vote for woodland. Also what's the time table looking like?
>>
>>30183130
Those are the two designs being made. Now its just a matter of deciding if I should go with the embroidered patch look or look a woven patch look
>>
>>30183104
They turned you down for hvaing velcro?
What the fuck
>>
>>30183206
Surprisingly they prefer iron-on.
Kinda make sense when you realize normies/cosplayers rather have the patch sewn permanently
>>
>>30183233
probably because they don't want it tearing their other patches when they store them

You can always pull velcro off with scissors or a knife
Just cut the stitching
>>
>>30183233
>>30183260
>oh you don't want velcro?
