Altama makes the best, they are remaking their classic designs but they will have modernized jungle boots in stock sometime in a few months. If you don;t want to wait that long, i'd recommend cocoran jump boots. And if you do, I would get the classic brown or the black ones. They are kind of a pain breaking in so what i would do to break them in would be to wear 2 layers of socks on each foot, apply leather lotion and saddle soap. after lotion and saddle soap. get some Kiwi shoe polish and polish a couple coats on them. It's not hard to rig the straps to wear it as a regular backpack but they aren't great. They hardly hold anything and they are really intended to be attached to the jacket, they are very uncomfortable to wear as a normal pack.

People mostly like them for the looks. If you want it for practical purposes, it's possible that civilian stuff is more what you actually need. Otherwise it's a pretty good outdoor suit, especially for hiking/mountaineering. It's a very good windbreaker with some waterproofing, and usually they are very well built and durable. The bits and pieces of camouflage actually have a theory behind them, that it's going to better fool the eye than a solid pattern. Also the idea behind them is that of an oversuit, acting as the outerlayer of a multilayer attire.

As far as i understand (my gorka is in the mail, should get here in a week or so) you can use it up to 15-20 celsius with just a tshirt and down to whatever, since you can wear a bunch of fleece under it (it's meant to be rather baggy for that reason). I've seen plenty of pics with guys on snowy windy mountains in gorkas, so that's where it mostly shines.
