>>
>>29901116

Depends which branch you'd want to join. With an art degree your choices are limited to the army and marine corps for the most part these days, you may want to check with a recruiter since maybe there is some wiggle room.

For example, to be a 17d in the air force you need a cs/it/is degree or some other stem degree with 24 units of cs undergrad coursework.

>>29901098

Brutal, try not to break yourself while attempting to keep up with the kids.

The only thing that would be more depressing than being a 30-something junior enlisted person is getting medically separated in training and having to figure out some other way to get a job.
>>
>>29901166
Yeah I was planning on going Army. My BA is in history if that counts for anything.
>>
>>29901068
You'll get called grandpa a lot. 20 year olds will be your boss at first.

After that shits pretty normal. Even an e3 can tell an e4 to fuck off once you're not a boot. Or even an e5, working party after I spent an hour at the chowhall.

Lcpl Schmuckatelli and me go way back.
>>
>>29901154
i wasn't asking for advice you faggot little nigger, thanks for explaining the word filter for me though. what would I have done without your help t b h f a m?
>>29901166
yes, I am old. will try not to get broken. I've always wanted to join, but had the good fortune of having a very nice job right out of high school, so the army was sort of put on the backburner. but last year, the industry I was in sort of imploded, so I said "now or never"
>>
>>29901176
well if your planning army with a ba already go officer. if you enlist you will be an e4 slick sleave (no deployment patch).
>>
>>29901176

You're going to have to make contact with a recruiter to see if being an officer is an option for you. I wouldn't just blindly accept what the recruiting websites say, I have seen a couple people with art degrees get waivered into air force ots for a couple jobs like administration and such.

I'm torn on whether I should be recommending enlisting to people like you in /meg/ if going officer isn't an option. It sucks and it is definitely a waste of your life if you have prospects outside of the military, but the humility and discipline you gain from being treated like shit also makes you a better person.
>>
>>29901068
Average enlistment age is like 21. Just don't bring up your age for anything and no one will give a shit.

>Even an e3 can tell an e4 to fuck off once you're not a boot. Or even an e5, working party after I spent an hour at the chowhall.

You just have to make sure your edgelordy ass has a good plan for separation or else the counselings you'll undoubtedly rack up whilst being a faggot on a daily basis will haunt you forever if you're trying to stay in to retirement.

>yes, I am old...

I'm 31 and getting ready for air force ots. Even though on youtube it looks like day camp I am still a little worried since my knees are shit due to six years in the Marine Corps out of high school.

I'm going into the guard since I have a good job so honestly I'm thinking that I'm not even going to try and keep up, that I'll just shoot for the 30 and over high pft score - as soon as I hit the time in grade requirement for each rank I'll automatically get it. I'm not sure if my pride will allow that, but I'm noticing as I train that if I run two days in a row my knees are a little swollen on the second day.

What industry did you work in?

well, first of all, you should appeal that decision if you still can. If you were passed out, in the car, and you did not drive it and have proof of that in some way in could be erased.

It might affect enlistment. It definitely will affect a commission to officer. So enlisting might be the way to go.

>>
>>29901385
Good for you. I stand to make $60k next year with my degree.

I could get a recommendation letter from any man I served with. The e5 I punked was a headquarters platoon POG who was up his own fat black ass, and I'd do it all over again. My and my bro from weapons platoon hid under our racks once to avoid formation and work detail.

K.
>>
>>29902036

Not that anon but I'd honestly prefer to make e6 pay and be out than make like 10k more or so and have stayed in.

I just think about adult shit that kids don't realize like how you're never able to own a house, or at least you'd have to worry about selling it every three years or so.

I think the idea situation if you were to go active enlisted would be to get out after your first term with your gi bill and go reserve or guard while finishing your undergrad, commission as a guard dude or reservist after you're done and work on getting a good civilian job.

Look into the street to seat program since you already have a BA. It's be kinda foolish to enlist with a degree then try to go warrant without exploring that option first. What specific questions do you have.

So, commissioning via OCS in the army. Lets say somebody finishes out dead middle of their OCS class. Would they still stand a pretty good chance to branch into a combat arms MOS by the end of it? I am talking stuff like infantry, artillery, air defense artillery, Engineer, etc.
Also, how competitive is it to branch ordnance or transportation? Intelligence?

Don't you have to have like ten years TIS to put in a warrant officer package if you were to go enlisted as X job?

Why do people even do that if their goal is to be helicopter pilots? I ask because when I at meps I heard kids talking about being pilots and I was just wondering what they were doing joining as a combat engineer or whatever.

The TIS requirement is bullshit, I've known kids who put in their packets as E-3s, maybe it's specific to a very in demand mos that you sign on for X amount of years minimum in your contract. How difficult is it to apply for Ranger while on active duty?

I could spend up to 18 months waiting for an option 40 contract, or I could ship out in a month and get the $20k quick enlist bonus.

would enlisting without the opt40 make the process longer/more difficult?
MOS would be 25s

Yes, you get to choose your mos.

The exception is that 03s get assigned one of the jobs in their fields near the end of itb. Maybe someone who was an 03 and not a shitposter could talk about what that is like since I wasn't one - my friend who I was in with at the beginning of the war as an 03 said that assignment was random, not sure if that is the case anymore.
>>
>>29903048
I'd say the most sought after are infantry, aviation, engineers, artillery, armor and intel.
>>
>>29903063
If you have an Infantry contract you get assigned MOS after about 1 month in SOI ITB. Either 0311 or weapons company.

Or you went open contract and congratulations you're a grunt lol. That's rarer but I knew a few lost souls that happened to.
>>
>>29903075

>>

>>
>>29903130

I want to go 35. I have determined that 35N is a solid MOS, which builds up a desirable skillset for the private sector. Am I wrong?

Also

35M obviously sounds like the coolest MOS, with the option for language school, etc., but is a good option? Isn't HUMINT slowly going out of trend?
>>

Depends how hard your willing to hustle. You can get VA home loan or USAA loans, VA will pay for about 5 mortgages before things start getting tricky. You only have to live in your house for a year. Apply all BAH towards mortgage, when time is up either rent to a bro, or find a company and charge a little under BAH. Continue cycle for posts.

When you retire in 20 years chose property you liked nearest post, liquidate rest, or keep renting for residual income and go visit buddies across country.

The thing is military everything in your life is paid for, and you make a shit ton of money ontop of that. No other jobs offer BAH and BAS so a nigga can sleep and eat, and while the healthcare blows, on the civvy side you gotta pay for some of the shit.

Best bet imo for young cats is pick an MOS that translates civvy side, or has an atrocious AIT. 68A BMET would have good job opportunities outside the green weeny and ait is 44 weeks, theres also some 25 series that are longer.

The longer it is, the more you learn, the likely hood of more quals, and less training needed on civvy side. They will like that you spent 44 weeks of training, and best part is with basic thats already a year off your contract by the time you hit your unit, plus these jobs youll sleep in your bed probably every night and not have to go to the field too often. When you deploy it will be fobbit lyfe.

Also while your in the best a young person could do if they picked a job that wont fuck them over like infantry or cav in the field all the goddamn time and working 12 hour days. Is to go to a community college, either local or local to your state. Do an online class and either a night class or weekend class. These count for promo points (get promoted more $$$ & sham and looks better), wont cost much if anything, and will save that GI bill money. You'll need close to 2 years of bullshit classes anyways even at a community college or university.
>>
>>29903201
Room mate is 35M, I am unimpressed as fuck. While not deployed, they do staff/motorpool duty.

I originally wanted to go Mike to Lima, but the more and more I found out about it, the more Lima sounded like ass. seems the only reason to reclass to that is to be a fed when you're out (which is cool, if that's what you want to do). I've heard literally no high-speed shit about this MOS, red-pill me anon.

>also, are the only 2 "feeder" MOS 35F and 35M? or can anyone reclass as long as they have a language or are in Intel?
>>
>>29903283

I'm 31 and I did my time. You can only get a zero down VA loan once every five years; either being a property manager yourself would be a nightmare for me, and hiring a company would simply be too expensive since no kid would be willing to eat that expense to rent your place so they would likely opt for base housing or some apartment.

You're definitely right about the hustle, it just isn't viable until you're like an e6 and you have the money to pull it off. Even with bah as an e3 I can't think of too many places where you'd actually have the income to get a home loan, 29 Palms is the only place that comes to mind.

I make almost $30k more as an acqdemo employee over my military officer and snco counterparts. It is just silly to try and claim money as an incentive to stay in, unless you were sitting around jacking off for ~4 years and didn't get your degree or you signed for a shit mos.

Released from AD in 2013 with honorable. Army.

Tech jobs.

Just stay away from motor t, generator mech and air conditioners. They are the retards of the tech fields and none of those will do anything for you upon separation; honestly helo and fixed wing mech won't do shit for you either since they pay shitty money and the jobs have been incredibly sparse since like 2010 - you also need the a&p license to get in anywhere but that is no big deal, the nojobz is a more important point.

Going to MEPS for the Army tomorrow
Last week my recruiter said he could get me an infantry contract, but today he called and said all that was left in the combat arms area was a 13B Cannon, and I would leave in a month and get a 25k bonus, but I dont really care about money.
I got a 96 on the ASVAB, but I really wanted to go infantry to challenge myself and redeem my soul through physical work, I haven't signed anything yet.
what do?

I can only speak for the Marine Corps.

Anything in electronics maintenance or tactical data systems is money. USMC network operations is okay but an air force guy would always get hired over you because their school follows comptia curriculum and the marine corps doesn't.

Your sense of smell is not tested. 35M will not ever be phased out. From whom did you hear such rabble?

35M may eventually be phased to a higher level job, along the lines of 35L, in order to breed a higher base army knowledge among the mikes. But as it is, most mikes are cross trains and they, frankly, suck dick at the job. And currently we're getting a big push for language, which means we're getting that milky FLPP train without having to stress every day at DLI about losing our jobs or getting kicked out for failing a stupid test administered by people who barely speak English.

To add to my previous post - if your damage sense of smell was due to some type of surgery or injury then you have to report it.

I meant to state that having a damaged sense of smell doesn't disqualify you from anything so there is no reason to lie about it and risk getting kicked out for fraudulent enlistment.

Are you trying to get rid of her? It's difficult enough if you ship off and you rarely get to go home and see her. If she joins too then you'll have a nightmare trying to get leave at the same time. It's a high risk enough that she'll cheat on you if the stays home, if she's in the armed forces too then you'll have a 100% guarantee of cheating and everything will go to shit.

It's not likely at all that you'll end up being in the same place. It won't be a boyfriend-girlfriend adventure.

Sappers are just engineers with better explosives training. As far as I know there isn't a Marine equivalent to Army Sappers. The army got rid of all dozen Infantry MOS's about 15 years ago and now there are only 2 enlisted infantry MOS's, rifleman or mortarman. It's not specified anymore like the Marine Corps is.
