Can any /k/ommando identify my granddad's flintlock for me? Only have 3 pics so bare with me

That's not a flintlock. That pistol uses percussion caps.
>>

So, being a percussion pistol, we know it dates from after 1820. The Minie balls would indicate that it dates from probably after the 1850's, though I can't be sure on that.

Any information in terms of markings would be really helpful.
>>
>>29852062
Look at the barrel, OP.

Are there any proof marks or other symbols pressed into the metal?
>>
>>29852157
>>29852120
"A&T" on the bottom of the grip. There's an indistinguishable number followed by "cal" lightly etched on the left side of the barrel, along with "Custom"

Sig extraction failure.jpg
299 KB, 1740x774
Sig had an error.
I asked in last thread but it was over 300 post mark and only one nice person responded.

If this happens does it mean the gun's extractor or extractor spring is out of spec or could it be another issue as well?
Could under powered ammo or the wrong magazine cause this?
Targets are included so you guys hopefully know I'm not limp wristing or something.

Debating on whether to call sig and if I do call them whether or not to send it back if they ask me to.
>>
I've been debating getting into black powder. Was thinking one of those build a pistol kits may be fun. Any suggestions on a good one?
>>
>>29852773
You basically answered your own question. It's either bad ammo or bad extractor, only way to figure it out is change one of those variables.

Magazines generally don't cause FTEs and if you're using factory Sig or Mec Gar mags then that shouldn't be an issue.
>>
>>29852773
Yes, the extractor looks fucked.

Does the gun cycle and try to double-feed after a failure to extract?

I've got about 250 rounds through it. That picture is the only hiccup.

I didn't see anything wrong with the casing but it was Winchester white box 115gr so idk.
I do have some 228 mags which look absolutely identical and didn't think to check the mag.
I really like this gun and how it shoots.
If there's a manufacturing defect that will be extremely disappointing.

I mean did the pistol cycle and double-feed when that failure happened?

It's either an extractor problem or ammo with a fucked up rim that caused it to slip. Considering it's a SIG with WWB ammo, either possibility seems equally likely.
>>
>>29853023
Oh, no, that's an empty casing halfway out the chamber, sorry.
Right now, I think I'll call sig but probably just put a few hundred more rounds through it and see if it does it again and thank you for the feedback.

>>
>>29853157
Yeah that's what I meant. It just means the cartridge wasn't underpowered and you weren't limp-wristing. It's definitely either the extractor or a messed up rim. Since it's only happened once it could be either.

Definitely shoot it some more and see if it happens again. If it does, check the offending casing and see that the rim isn't visibly fucky or totally missing (fucking Tula). If it looks OK, it's the gun.

My father bought a model 60 clone on a lark at a gunshow, it was just like his childhood .22, scope included.
Lots of memories of collecting bunnies and birds for his homesteading parents, yes they were that old even though he and I aren't.

It's an old off brand but licensed Marlin model 60 out of sears and roebuck back in the day, complete with squirrel carved in the stock and shitty scope.
The problem:
>it will feed and fire just fine when you charge it
>the second shot it will not fire, seems uncocked, but a round having fed correctly
>charging it will eject an unstruck round and feed a new one, yielding correct function on the next trigger pull

>the magazine tube seems straight, my pos never cleaned taken from my grandfather's estate because literally no one else wanted it model 170 or whatever feeds just fine despite the chamber being so dirty it literally cannot lock up to shoot straight

>I cleaned the fuck out of this 60 clone hoping it would work and he would stop bumming about it
>no dice
>the guts however are ugly, like not sure if cheap factory, standard marlin shit, or bubba ugly or some combination

It wasn't expensive granted, but I'd like to have this thing trouble shooted for him by Father's Day
Where do i go from here? Because i honestly have no clue.
It might not be pricey but I think it would really mean something to him. FWIW Mother's Day is already accounted for.

It sounds like a worn out recoil spring.

It's a cheap part, and if you know how to take it apart and put it back together, it should take an afernoon.

depends on the person but generally the further your hand is from the bolt handle the longer it would take to cycle the action.

Follow up,
FYI if interested, if not sorry about blog

So I called SIG and they say it's user error. The guy actually said, because I asked for clarification, that anything under multiple failures per hundred rounds is considered within manufacturers specification. If the gun fails to extract every 200 rounds that it is quote "acceptable". When I told him that the slide had cycled all the way back he said that I might have been fatigued.

Whatever, this is the nicest shooting gun that I've ever owned but I'm starting to have serious concerns about SIG. I already unloaded the 938 because it was having problems despite being brand new the slide stop would just randomly lock back. Hopefully this was a 1 time only freak occurrence but if it ever happens again I'll react.

Thanks for the feedback.

No. Springs will wear out from use. Keeping them loaded will not produce an adverse effect unless the spring is hurting something else under load.

If you have a full mag with the slide down on an empty chamber (condition 3) I would avoid constantly inserting and removing the mag on a closed slide. Other than that it's pretty much gravy. Check your ammo on occasion and cycle it out with fresh stuff.

I have a PTR-91 with the rail. I love the rifle and it's time to put an optic on it. What should I be looking for as an optic to be used from 0-600 yards. I mostly shoot at paper, but I want to get into steel, and take it hunting. Durability is a high priority. I'm looking primarily at 6 power scopes, but I am open to suggestions as I'm not sure exactly what I want on it. If I can stay in the <$500 range that's preferable, otherwise I am liable to splurge and fork over the cash for an ACOG just due to aesthetics.

My experience with scopes is limited to a 10/22 I've qualified at several Appleseeds with. My centerfire rifles have always had irons, but that was a budget, and knowledge, constraint not a reasoned choice.

Need some advice on putting together a bug-out bag/survival kit.

Most of the contents will have a finite life. That's unfortunate, but I accept that reality.

I've also been told that you should always test certain things first before relying on them. This seems like sound advice, because I've heard stories of people being put in compromising situations (death, lost/stranded, illness, etc.) because they didn't test their equipment/supplies first.

So what do you do? If you test something, you're technically using it, therefore reducing the longevity. If you use it once or twice for testing purposes, it may have a negligible effect on lifespan, but then again, you might not be entirely convinced that you can trust your life with it.

Where do you draw the line? How many tests is enough to convince you that something is good, and how many tests is overdoing it to the point of wearing it out?

A clip is a clip.

a magazine is a magazine.

Some magazines can be removed readily, some can't.

MAGAZINES ARE MAGAZINES

CLIPS ARE CLIPS

There is no cross over. Even that gimmick-built clipazine is really just a magazine that can can be loaded faster*

This isn't "every candy has sugar, but not all sugar goes into candy."

These are parts that have definite names and jobs. Clips are clips, and they are never anything else. Same for magazines.

Bt once you start going deep, you'll realize that the reloading system are alot like the early automobiles. There are many loading systems, and alot are really similar, but not interchangeable. Alot are similar and interchangeable. At the end it just words.

Remember that what was a hozieywhatsit on one gun could be called a dingbongler on another. Guns are not put together from prenamed parts. Often things that do similar jobs are not similarly named.

Just don't get hung up about it, and remember your terminology from gun to gun.

It depends on whether or not an AR15 lower has been made to accommodate it.

Fume extractor, it keeps the crew from being overheated from the gas created by the gun firing.

>Why is the Abram's main gun smoothbore?

Rifling gets dirty and affects accuracy. Smoothbore doesn't suffer from this problem.

Whether it was first developed for a rifle or pistol, or whether it's most commonly used in rifles or pistols.

Example:
9x19, or "9mm." Developed for pistols, and very commonly used in pistols today. There are some rifles that use it, but they are a small minority; people usually call these rifles "pistol carbines."

Honestly, I'd suggest buying a ready-made piston AR.

But if you already have a DI style AR, kits seem to be plentiful.

However, from the cursory Googling I just did on the subject, conversion kits seem to have abhorrent reviews.

I'd save up and buy an honest to god piston AR.

Or if you're having reliability problems, try a chromed BCG before you commit to a more expensive fix.

So I've got a Yugo SKS, mismatching parts. Picked up a Tapco magazine to see how it would work.

Turns out I need to file out the magazine well on a wooden stock. Thing is, the magazine in it already is loose and wobbles around side to side.

Should I let it be and forget the 20 rounder, or is the mag that's in it already too shitty to keep around and I should go for it?

What's the go-to-gun for bolt action 22s? One that should be readily available at even a walmart or something.

"“Mad Minute” was a pre-World War I term used by British Army riflemen during training at the Hythe School of Musketry to describe scoring a minimum of 15 hits onto a 12″ round target at 300 yards within one minute using a bolt-action rifle (usually a Lee-Enfield or Lee-Metford rifle). It was not uncommon during the First World War for riflemen to greatly exceed this score. The record, set in 1914 by Sergeant Instructor Alfred Snoxall, was 38 hits."

>>29875028
Have you tried modifying the mag first?

Also I'd function test without the stock to make sure it even works to begin with.
>>
>>29875380
Function test is how I realized I'd have to make modifications. Empty, the new mag fits very tight and the follower/bolt hold open stick. Full, the rounds don't feed.

I haven't tried anything on the mag, but I'm not sure I want to file away material from a polymer magazine.
>>

I'd buy a second stock and see which is more wobbly and just mod the looser one just in case the tapco ends up not working right or you want to go back to the original for whatever reason.

Is there any point in manually pulling the hammer back on a semi auto weapon?

I see it in movies all the time

>Pull out the gun and point it at would-be victim
>Make threat
>Pull back the hammer
>Make threat again
>>
>>29876205
On specific pistols with decocking capability, yes. Theyre generally carried in the holster with a round in chamber, decocking is a safety feature which will let you fire a heavy trigger pull first shot in double action or manually cock the hammer to go red direct again.
>>
Anyone have any experience with the Sig 556xi? Is it worth buying over an AR15? This will be my first rifle purchase.
>>
>>29876205

Depends on the gun.

On a single action only like a M1911 the hammer should already be back and they should be taking the safety off; but people who don't understand guns wouldn't know what's going on.

On a Double Action/Single Action pistol (like the Beretta 92 in your pic) pulling the hammer back gives you a lighter single action trigger pull in much the same way that it would on a double action revolver.

Mostly its a Hollywood meme that's leftover from the days of western films. Directors enjoyed being able to show a cowboy cocking the hammer on his single action revolver as a means of conveying that he means business, they expanded this to double action revolvers and then eventually to pistols.

A stupider Hollywood meme is actually the constant pumping of pump shotguns as a means of intimidation since in many cases the shooter would just be ejecting a live round for no reason.
>>
>>29876229

decocking is a mechanism on Double action/ Single action pistols which allows you to safely lower the hammer with a live round in the chamber (thus returning the gun to double action).

I'm not sure if you understood this or not, I couldn't fully decipher your meaning.

What's the best after market trigger for remington 700?
>>
ive got an idea. its a fully automatic revolver. yes. a fully, automatic, revolver. as in, you hold the trigger, and it fires round after round, until it stops or runs out. itll likely have a slow rate of fire, to be useful, but in theory, not a whole lot stops it from being super high cept for the capacity of human bones not to break

just before i seriously dick around with the concept and make it work, has anyone else done this, and what mechanic ism was used?

im also considering this design for judges, or similar style revolver shotguns. i think this could make an amazing last ditch back up gun. imagine your main jams, and you gotta shoot faster then any man has ever shot before. why not make it 5 rounds automatic .410 buck?

Basically what he said. Work on improving your knowledge more than anything. Get your basics squared away:
>A means to make fire
A bic lighter is fine. Ferro rods are a decent backup in case your shit is soaked, but chances are you're not starting a fire with all your shit soaked anyway.
>Enough water to get where you're going
Either carry the water, or have a means of purifying water along your way. Balance out expedience with weight. Boiling water is pretty easy, but fires attract attention.
>Food
Bring enough food to get to your location. Estimate around 2,300-2,500 a day. Beware of "rabbit starvation". Be aware that peanut butter is pound-for-pound one of the most calorie dense foods available.
>Shelter stuff
This is gonna vary depending on you and how many people you're bugging out with, and how far your bug out location is. For one guy? Get a camouflageable bivvy.

Beyond that, it's hard to give really solid advice without knowing how far you're bugging out or how well you can make caches along the path. Honestly, go on a three or four day hiking trip, and you'll learn a lot about what you need. And don't even tell me you don't have a bug-out location, or else you're approaching this all wrong and need a thread of your own. Also, babby wipes > TP.

Nogunz here, get ready to laugh at my stupidity.

What the fuck am I expected to do whenever someone hands me a rifle to show off their gun? I have had my friend's relatives do this, as well as acquaintances on a few occasions.

Beyond knowing gun safety rules and somewhat being able to shoot I know pretty much fuck all about guns. Whenever I'm put in this situation where someone hands me a rifle to look at all I know to do is look through the sights like a dumbass to see how it feels, which I usually get an odd look for doing, though I know it's an unloaded weapon and still keep good trigger discipline regardless, and I'm fairly certain as a man I have nothing like a girl lean.

I've got no idea what the etiquette is on this, or what the expectations are. Not really a situation I'm in very often, but enough to ask.

>>
>>29852526

Stop asking dumb questions like these. Value has so many factors when it comes to US Milsurp that it's pretty much impossible to even estimate without breaking it down completely and producing a data sheet. For example, A late was correct and original Springfield M1 Garand runs about $1200-$1500 on the market. A correct and original Winchester Garand goes for $3500-$4500. An authentic Winchester stock with a crisp cartouche might run you $1000 alone. The same applies to carbines, there are so many subcontractors and sub-subcontractors that made parts for the big companies that made the receivers that it is virtually impossible to identify a carbine as "correct" unless you break down every last piece.
>>

I guess I shoudn't say "dumb" but at least maybe look into it a little and give a breakdown of your parts for review. Why are "Clinger" holsters so cheap?

I'm broke as fuck and looking for a good IWB for my new 1911. I wanted a kydex IWB, preferably with an offset polymer clip.

Then I see pic related

>Clinger Atom holster
>kydex
>offset clip
>tuckable
>adjustable retention
>...$20

I am immediately suspicious as everything else like this is $50+. What's the deal here? Are they total piles of shit? If not how are they managing to undercut everyone else so much?

Also anyone know any other good kydex IWB holsters under $50ish?
>>
>>29887135
It probably isn't hand-made or isn't American made.

Here is a pic of my IWB from squaredaway customs, it's their "alpha" holster.
>>
>>29887135
also it is important to note that I had to wait 9-10 weeks to get this holster.

if you find a small shop making good stuff, chances are they're swamped as fuck and your shit will take months to get.

what's the wait-time on that holster?

This isn't a question, but I just wanted to say I fucking love my CZ-83.
>simple to operate
>easy to break down and reach every area
>a dream to shoot
>fun to shoot
>super comfy to daily carry even without a holster
>my little .380 buddy
Goddamn /k/ have you ever fallen in love with a gun? Because I'm sure this is what it feels like

You'd be surprised how little it prints. Here's a profile of my ghetto tucking it. I wear at about 3 o clock.
>>
>>29887220
skinny guys need not apply to CC effectiveness

I would not be able to bend down for working with a 3 o'clock.

between 4 and 5 o'clock is the sweet spot for not getting in the way imo.

S-shut up anon I'm going to the gym tomorrow to begin my /fit/ journey ;_;
Honestly it just comes down to personal preference. I'm sure if you had it and practiced wearing it you'd find it to be a very comfy gun.

Glock is cool but you can't go wrong with that all steel design that CZ provides, babyyyyyy

Hypothetically speaking, will a piece of pipe, ball bearings, black powder, batteries, wires, and a set of canon fuses in my Amazon cart be enough to put me on the ATF's "shoot his dog" list? They aren't, but hypothetically speaking would they know?

Thanks man. Generally I'll hold it and say it feels nice and that's about it. They've always told me the make when they handed it to me and about as long as they've had it. Always just assume it shoots fine and they're happy with it since they're proud enough to show it off.

>>29885666

Already covered on that, but thanks all the same.

What is this? /diy/ is having a fit as to what this is, it does seem to be about the same as a 20mm projectile but the wall thickness and the groved ring looks like it has a lip on it that would make it bounce in the barrel IMO.

so what do you guys think, i have no idea.

Clearly a round, likely a 20mm from an Oerlikon cannon or copy. The grove is prescored rifling used to lock into a better spin with a barrel, and the round is flat walled to give it more contact with the barrel.

Best guess is that it was an incidiary or tracer based on the nose shape and the cavity in back. On phone at work, so research is not thorough right now. I'd start by looking up indiary for Oerlikon or maybe Bofors.

It's US made. I'm sure it isn't hand made though. Honestly what's the difference? Big companies like Comp-Tac don't hand-make their stuff either. I'm just worried this thing is going to have poor fit or AlienGear-level QC.

>>

Most of /diy/ is currently filled with idiots.
It's a subcaliber training round for the LAW.
They had a rifled barrel that would go in the tube and then this thing would be fired out the barrel.

>>
>>29889890
There were multiple sub caliber rounds for the law. You posted the 35mm rocket. There were also 21 mm rockets, 20mm cartridge and even a 9mm cartridge.
