It's just a good time of the year I think. What with chernobyl anniversary, weather warming up and turning green again, I don't know about everyone else but I have been dying to do a STALKER challenge.
So, on a side note, I'm saving up for a was r right now, but in the mean time thinking of getting a crossman comrade bb gun just for looks. My zone is mostly private land and if caught would it be better to have a fake as gun or a real one? I'm already planning on using fishing as an excuse. Just worried that if I bring a rifle I could get myself into a hole heap of trouble I'm not after. On the other hand, coyotes are fairly common around here and I could potentially say I was out coyote hunting.
Thoughts? It's my first STALKER challenge and first innawoods since before I was 18, so laws way a bit more heavily then they did when I was young pun/k/
Arsenal Overhaul for CoP is a top mod.
Still sad we never saw SMP 2.5 for SoC released.
this game seems neat.
gonna get it during next steam sale if it goes on sale.
what game should I start with, CoP?
it's the newest and looks the best but I'm not sure about gameplay and I could just get a bunch of ENBs and shit.
including the mods available and vanilla, which is the best?
>>29776819
Hmmmm, I'd really recommend finding a different place to innawoods at, and if your zone is private land would that coyote hunting excuse even hold up?
"You see I just trespassed onto this land to hunt shit"
>>29776839
Just a heads up I got my collectors edition of Call of Pripyat retail for like $20 years ago retail since these games are from the era of actual disks so you might wanna check out local stores instead of waiting for sales.

>>29776851
yeah but it's 20 bucks on steam and then if its on sale its cheaper, and comes with steam support and the integration and shit.
still not sure what game to get.
>>29776841
Well, in Oklahoma almost all land is private. The trick is finding a big enough section of land that your far enough away from roads to use a gun yet also far enough away from actual land owners house that if questions are asked you can just say you wondered onto it from the next guy overs place and didn't know you had crossed property lines. I have permission from one guy to be on his land, but the area I'm wanting to set up base camp in is next plot over.
>>29776859
Eh honestly you might as well pirate it, it is nice to have the steam overlay, but the developers disbanded and the multiplayer sucks nuts so its not really like you're missing out there either.
>>29776859
gog.com , cheaper than steam and you don't have to use their aids Steam/Origin ripoff if you don't want to (plus the added nostalgia of downloading multi-part self extracting files)
I got SOC and COP for £11 (i already have CS)
>>29776869
I know that game, Southern Arizona is all state trust land that you can't shoot on (I think people still do but I heard the state is cracking down on it recently and that combined with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. garb probably wouldn't go well) and the BLM land is way out of the way which kinda sucks. Have you tried contacting the owner of the other plot and asking permission to hike around their property? If its really just empty shit they might not care.
>>29776869
>>29776841
Also, all other zones worth checking out are at least 45 minutes away from home. This one is only 2 mile hike. Trying to stay close to home because weekend between workdays. Planning a big trip in September to Wisconsin where I can innawoods for real like I used to.
Also, that's y I was thinking the bb gun for local purposes, til I can get out to somewhere I can do a proper 72 hour challemge. My zone lies between a creek and a farm pond. Already planning on bringING fishing gear, and I have fishing license. Bb gun could be written off as "no worries was just using it to scare off any critters that came along" so that I can avoid any trespassing with firearms problems. I'm completely legal to fish where I plan on fishing.
>>29776899
Used to live in lake Havasu city. I know them feels.
The thing is, I think that the stretch of land I'm trying to get to is state owned, because there are multiple oil pumps on it. But the road to the pumps is gated because it branches off of the driveway of the person whom I think owns land out there too. It's a really fucked up layout. Point is I can't get up to their house to contact them without trespassing anyway, so at that point I feel like it's better to not ask, just cut through the land I have permission to be on, and avoid drawing attention to myself.
Basically I'm just trying to come up with a contingency plan while staying true to stalker spirit.
>>29776888
Get skidrow/reloaded torrent it's the gog file. And you can add any game to your steam library for steam overlay.
>>29776940
Same fag
So basically, my plan is to go out to the creek where I have permission to be, then go full stalker, sneak across cordon into zone via creek route, stay two nightseparate near farm pond, then cut through woods towards a construction plant for exfil on other side of woods. My routes are all planned already, at well as most of my gear. The gun is really my only concern, and I'm trying to decide whether I leave it off completely, and just bring pistol, or I bring shitty lookalike bb gun for the sake of looks cool and fun to plink, or I say fuck it and bring real ak. Pistol is coming regardless.

Feels good comrade. On a related note, what's a good gun to bring on these STALKER challenges? My area has a lot of bears and such around, so nobody suggest anything less than a full size cartridge and soft points. Shotguns are also greatly appreciated. As of right now I'm trying to decide between a Lee Enfield and a Mosin for the rifle side, and a Grizzly or a Model 1887 for a shotgun.

>>29779089
Scavengers, Trespassers, Adventurers, Loners, Killers, Explorers, and Robbers
It is a pc game series, inspired based by the book Roadside Picnic. /K/ posters like to Roleplay the life of a stalker in their hometowns, going into woods with rifles, dressed up, camping out in abandoned buildings, drinking vodka, and trying not to get shot while trespassing. There's also STALKER challenges like pic related.
>>29779089
It is a game.
It's a game about going around with weapons, dodging bandit bullets, finding spooky, mutated things in spooky, abandoned buildings while dodging radiation that can make you explode.

Now its a sort of cult subculture involving slavshit gasmasks and survivalism, in ukraine people have been illegally exploring the exclusion zone surrounding the CNPP since the event and the book/movie/games have further evolved this for generations since.
Stalker is the name given to people entering the zone by all the fiction.

It's more of a guideline, and a push to get us off the forums, meetup, play around in the woods, come back with cool pictures and stories. Do what makes you happy man.
>>29779984
An innovative system regardless.
Though seeing as Freedom's agenda has been incorporated, it would be interesting to see Duty's and the Military's agendas also come to play.
Whereas the Military seeks to contain the Zone, Duty seeks to eradicate it.
So with military, it would consist of much more guard duty, and with Duty, well, see how much you can fuck up nature.
Both of those would end as spectacular failures, but it's a novel thought.
>>29779971
Well I sincerely hope it's not your land I'm gonna be trespassing on then, friend.

Strelok's SGI-5k with a scope plus the MP5 .45 you can order in skadovsk are the best mid-long/short combo. vintorez has too low a dmg/shot for a sniper and its ROF and durability are outclassed by the sgi

There's absolutely nothing to play, all areas are the same - open terrain or commieblocks, all weapons are the same, there's no difference between a shitty ak or ar-15. Also these retards somehow got all the weapon names wrong IN THEIR OWN GAME. this is bullshit.
>not with mods
mods take too much space on my hard drive they are too big, glitchy and impossible to install. I have to read like a fucking book to install these shitty mods.
Why couldn't they release a DLC, like a real game company would do? And they want to be treated seriously. How can you call yourself a game developer if you don't release DLCs?
There's no storyline, characters are bullshit, the protagonist is some KGB officer or something and all three parts of the game are set in the USSR. It's like they are anti-american or something. I mean, who does that? You make 3 games and none of them involves America or at least war on terror? You have to be shitting me. It's like what, 1600's out there? America still haven't been discovered yet? I don't think so. Why would you create a thread about shitty boring games?

Any stalker game I play, the VSS is always one of my primary weapons. I usually walk around with a VSS, a shot gun, and a pistol.
The silencer is really useful, once you get in a good mid-long range position you can wipe bases out without taking a shot.
>>29779816
I'd say most certainly yes, they'd be worth it. I imagine it'd either be though some kind of collector intermediary, bounty paid by gov't, or direct to research institutions (read up on how unis will pay for meteorites, think like that).
>>29780125
IMO the Sniper VAL you can order in the Skadovsk is a better gun, if only because you can use it full auto if you get surprised by multiple exo-wearing baddies in close quarters (had that happen once in the Jupiter factory, full auto + sneaking + flanking saved my ass where the VSS would probably have gotten me killed).
For SoC, I prefer a main that can take a grenade launcher attachment. Even if I never use it, the option to mortar mutant swarms is too good to pass up.
I made a comic with Tachanka and Stalker.
/k/ should approve.

>>29786171
He mentions having dealings with the base commander, so he probably gets immunity of some sort from kill orders. As to which files, I think you'd have to dig through the config/gameplay files for the relevant <faction>_<rank>_weapon stuff to change their guns, and character_desc_<level> to change what they're wearing (no idea if that'd actually affect their stats). You'll need to start a new game for it to take effect, most likely, and you *may* be able to get by with just editing the <faction>_<rank> files. I have never tried any of this and I'm not sure it'll work, but those files are the ones that seem to govern NPC gear/inventory. You might need to unpack the .db files to get a better idea of what to put for character_desc, it points to a directory that AMK at least does not include.

I got it down to a T by sitting in the back using my scoped stg to snipe them as they come out but after awhile they always end up lobbing a grenade a football field and kill me or while they are moving they shoot and it hits me in the head killing ne instantly.

Only problem is we only have 2 gun between us, and it's a .22 handgun (and no slavshit stuff either obviously).
Do you know anything about the abandoned town you pass by going to Alamogordo? Seems like a good place to stalk.

I don't. How do I get in touch with you?
If anyones interested my area is a hive of abandoned places good for STALKER innawoods with a similar climate to Chernobyl. 3 abandoned NIKE sites along with a few neighborhoods abandoned in the 80s that are still standing. Miles of overgrown roads and railroads too for more. Pic related, one of the abandoned houses. Anyone interested?
>>29797597
Cool well hopefully we'll know of some areas worth checking out for the drive you'd have from Houston.

If its the stalker hit with that faggot from duty just lob a grenade at the middle of them all and take out well over half.
If its the barge and you side with owl in helping the stalkers just mow them all down once they're all close together.
If it's clearing Vano's debt just walk in and close the door and shoot the two fuckers in the room and play the waiting game.
I've beaten misery at least 7 times so shit gets pretty easy after your first time.

>>29803466
Great, it's not too far from me.
>>29803976
probably just outside a smaller town. You won't be out in the middle of nowhere where some shady fuck can rape you, but you're not near a big city where there's gonna be a lot of police presence, even on the outskirts. Small town police tend to be friendlier too, in the off chance you run into them.
don't be visible, but don't make it look like you're trying to hide, you know? Don't stay under a streetlamp but also don't try and be super stealth ninja because that's suspicious. if there are two streetlamps, try and stay near the middle but definitely closer to one of them.
basically try to not look like someone camping obnoxiously, but don't go out of your way to hide because then the police will get a heads up. if you have a nice modest setup somewhere where you're visible but not incredibly slow, you should be good
>>29804102

get some AP ammo and cheap grenades, and knock off bandits. If you have mods that allow it wound them and interrogate for stash coordinates. I'm playing misery and hunting the mutants that spawn around the burnt farmstead with a cheapo shotgun since buckshot/slugs are pretty cheap and saving up for an SSP(?) sealed suit for anomalies, and building 2 loadouts, one for fighting and one for anomalies
How fesable would it be to hide stashes for fellow stalkers? I'm thinking old ammo cans with some cigs, dip, nudie mags, candy, batteries, vodka, etc. and geo caching them for the next guy. Also a log book to see who's been there. If you take you restock it with something for the next guy

I wish those types of stories were real. Here's one when a friend and I tried to do a STALKER challenge. TL;DR the word tried should be heavily emphasized
>decide to try out the Freedom challenge
>we both are avid minimalist campers, usually preferring to craft things ourselves
>we take hammocks seeing as Freedom is a no-trace challenge
>we had both built AR's that year, so there's our NATO rifle.
>US M81 fatigues for us both with coyote tan rigs/carriers and rucks. something like four loaded mags each
>hike seven miles to one of our favorite spots in a valley in friend's neck of the woods
>smoke a bowl, friend's tolerance much higher than mine
>im high, but not unable to function high
>sun goes down after some time, and we hear the distant yapping of coyotes
>think nothing of it
>sky grows darker as nightfall sets in
>shame we can't have a fire because
>the yapping of the coyotes gets closer
>and closer
>and before we know it, they're circling our camp about 50 yards out, both of us have our headlamps on full brightness and we counted about 8 sets of eyes
>coyotes are pussies though, so we just hold out
>then some get too close, two curious looking ones with one being noticeably larger than the other
>friend fires on them as I hear something behind me
>a coyote was right up my ass when friend pulled the trigger and it jumped back
>fuck man, i didn't even know it was there
>turn around to face it, comes in again, probably trying to nibble at whatever was in my pockets
>to scare it off, I fire a shot
>plunked it right through the head, dropped instantly
>woops.jpg
>friend fires another shot
>remaining coyotes have stood off some distance now
>turn to face that direction
>we fire 5-6 shots each into the pack and they scatter back into the night
>decide to forfeit the challenge and start a fire
And that was my experience with stalker challenges. Once i get home from school I will have plenty more stories for all of you /k/omrades.

In continuation: it seems like a promising place to do a stalker challenge, as it's not too far from the metro area and has a few interesting things that could be worth exploring. Only thing is that I read that it is patrolled by police. Depending on how you look at it, that could add to the game, or not.

Baltrami is fucking huge, and no method labs as weed and heroin are the ruling drugs up north. You may find relics of old moonshine camps throughout the forest... Old people always talk about that.
Chengwatana looks big, but also swampy. Can't say I have been there myself.

I do. Sorta like stalkan minus the fact that I don't carry a rifle.
Kit:
>Medkit
>Fire kit
>extra socks
>TP
>multitool
>2 liters of water
>Water filter
>Compass and map (Usually not required, but it's been helpful on occasion)
>Some protein bars with a good carb/protein/fat ratio
>44. Magnum because fucking bears (Southern MO)
>Slingshot if we're going to be out more than a day or two
>Machete if we're going somewhere that happens to be covered in goddamned horsetails
Fire kit includes a large matchbox full of cotton balls covered in vaseline for kindling. Seriously, they will burn anywhere.
Probably forgetting some things, but it's late and I'm not hauling my pack out to double check.
If we're camping somewhere we won't have to hike to, cookware and a shotgun with slugs because niggerbears.

I have to go but if you find anything or more info, keep it on hand for a future stalker general thread. I'd love to keep correspondence up for this militia compound. later.

this was meant for you.
I see a lot of people don't know where to go fo a stalker challenge, myself included. A two hour search came up with nothing, all the big abandoned places (military, airports, hospitals, ski resorts) are all near major roads and towns. Does anybody know of a good reference to find good spots?

Look around in Google maps. Doesn't really tell you if it is abandoned or not but it will give you a idea if you use googlefu

Wish it was still the 90s so you could throw in a couple of beat up Makarovs and not care about the cost.

Lee Enfields or Mosins are great rifles for innawoods, I plan on bringing my M44 in this year when I go.
I've heard good things about the Grizzly shotguns so they're probably fine, and I have taken my 1887 out overnight. The 1887 is a great gun for the price, and the 17.5 inch barrel manuevers great in the woods, however I noticed the model I bought is out of stock at CanadaAmmo so you might have to find a used one somewhere.
Another shotgun I like for the bush that STALKER actually inspired me to pick up was a pistol gripped Maverick 88, a very light gun that provides plenty of fire power. I'd suggest one with a full stock for actual serious applications, mine has always been reliable and was pretty easy on the wallet.

>pistol gripped Maverick 88
Shit, they even sel these at Cambodian Tire now. I was surprised to see all the tacticool shotguns they have on the racks.
>tfw I bought a CZ858 specifically to do STALKER challenged with someday

NW Indiana. Today I just checked one of the neighborhoods and the NPS has torn down all of the houses and the other one is half gone. There are more places but they are kinda sketchy to get to around here because they are close to Gary.
is a P64 stalker enough? the extra hundred dollarydoos for a makarov seems... like spending 100 extra dollars.
>tfw so much random slavshit that I'm running out of money for slavshit

you have to be careful with gilman because the land owner and the feds get really bitchy about people being on the property there. Try one of the mining towns around cripple creek that isn't cripple creek or victor or goldfield.

Good to know. Just gotta find the time to do. There's nothing here in West CT.

I'll never understand why /k/ loves STALKER so much over ARMA.
>>29785995
especially turning it into a bad stealthy fps instead of a proper stealth game...
> be artyom
> be surrounded by enemys
> shoot one silently who blocked my path
> enemys discover corpse
> "GRENADE"
> get nuked out of my hiding spot because everyone knows where I am
> be artyom again, inexperienced tea farmer from wdnch
> be in nazi station
> no other choice than ramboing 30 nazi soldiers

Nothin much, brah. Figuring out how to leave this shithole so I can get to Stalkan.
>>29810673
STALKER is easier to get into.
ARMA is still highly praised around here but you'll find far fewer people playing it.
bump limit reached, who will make new thread?
