No image? Great shame.
Is keymod/m-lok better than the other or are they about the same?
You guys have pretty guns but can they kill people?
surefire warden worth the entry fee? I moved so most of my ranges are now indoors.
perfect way to start the thread:
how do I make my rifle pretty for cheap?
I have an AFG and a shitty red dot with UTG mount but I like the carry handle futuristic A2 look better but you can convince me otherwise
>>29610765
About the same honestly. More depends who you're getting it from
>>29610734
In
So I'm gonna build my first AR off an 80%, and I want to go for a lightweight minimalist build. Any tips or recommendations?
>>29610775
no, they are 5.56
>>29610765
same. pick one which is on a rail you like and be done with it.
>>29610734
thats sum preddy snek skin ther m8
>>29610787
Buy gucci, it is the cheapest quality brand.
>>29610781
I tried going down the red dot on a detachable carry route a long time ago and honestly it was a terrible mistake and waste of money.
Does Armalite make decent rifles? I heard they went downhill but are back now. Interested in opinions.
>>29610753

Am lazy desu
in.
IWI so far shoots essentially identical to PPU. no surprises there.
>>29610784
Neat, I'd definitely be down for that.
>>29610825
Generally stay away from them, unless they stopped cutting corners during their new run which would be news to me.
Built this the other day for a friend. Im not a big fan of the exposed gas block but its what he wanted.
>>29610734
That looks pretty good senpai.
>>29610825
hell no. avoid colt as well. they have been shitting out garbage lately.

>>29610852
He wanted an exposed gas block?

>>29610863

>>29610858
my colt wasn't bad, but for 950 bucks........ really?
you can get the same config from PSA from 600 bucks
Never paying 300 bucks for a rollmark again, thank god they hold value
>>29610863
Isent that supposed to be the most "effective" ar-15 5.56 muzzle break?
>>29610909
I don't like them.
>>29610916
It effectively will blow your fucking ears out. But really it's a noticeable difference I would keep it if I was already deaf
>artsy
In, of course.
>>29610787
How lightweight?
If you want the lightest rifle on the board you'll want a to replace all the aluminum bits with magnesium, and all the steel with titanium.
>>29610895
That's more than I thought, my reloads are still at ~27 even with shitty EU prices of everything from primers to bullets.
>>29610916
Yeah, the M4-72. But their hybrid devices are much better IMO.
>>29610915
new ones are coming out with anodizing that is absolute garbage and bolts that have fucked up tolerances, arfcom had a thread showing a bolt that the gas ring slot was so out of spec he could fit 4 rings in there with room to spare.
>>29610951
Like one of these builds with the monilithic rail and the mft stock
>>29610920
buy a clear front cover like i did so you dont have to worry about fucking up your glass when you're kicking up dirt
>>29610963
>reloads are more expensive than new production
wow, im shocked.
>>29610994
I'll look into it thanks bro.
>>29611007
US new ammo prices rivaled EU reload prices for a long time, I'm just saying.
US reloads have to be like, what, 15-20 cpr?
>>29611083
Nah, only about 5-7/cpr less than new on average. Its cheaper just to shoot steel
>>29611083
>15-20 cpr?
depends on the bullets, cheapest is probably 10cpr
>>29610992
What is that light mount?
>>29611118
this. if you shoot steel and have a cheap enough rifle, depending on how much you shoot you can buy a new barrel/bolt with the savings.
artsy pics u say?

Oh my dear, sweet newfag. You know nothing.
>>29611157

And to put it all into perspective.
How stupid would it be to keep buying 16" mid length AR's over and over?
>>29611170
I pussied out.
>>29611184
lame
>>29611184
lame as fuck
>>29611177
But then you would have a lot of decent ARs, assuming you do more than ensure a midlength 16" barrel.
>>29611184
Dont worry, you saved yourself a life time of embarrassment
>>29610734
Closest thing to art I've created.
>>29611177
I think a big appeal to AR's is the potential for creativity and variety. So, pretty stupid. To me.
Unless they were still very different from one another in some way.

>>29610787
In general, full length metal handguards are by no means lightweight. One could rock classic A2 handguards (truly minimalist), buy lightweight gucci rails, or go with an AR pistol (shorter barrels are handier even with full length rails)
The minimalist stock is gold. Foregrips are overrated. If you free-float, you're gonna really want anti-rotation tabs
>>29611126
magpul universal light mount
>>29610781
Spraypaint the handguard, pistol grip, and stock
Also the barrel (use Rustoleum high heat or comparable)
>>29610841
Pics of the brass amigo?
what should i do?
i don't want to piss them off and have them take even longer but i also don't want to pay money.

>>29611533
Give them a counter offer of $325 since it's taken them so damn long to get back to you and you weren't using anything improperly.
>>29611583
$400
$650 is if the can basically explodes because you pack it with tannerite.

>>29611670
Why is it retarded if it's the only thing small enough to fit under a rail?
>>29611703
it's retarded because you can't afford a rail to put over it

question for all you fags on here
What kind of oil should I use for my first build? I've got some parts inbound and I know loctite is one fluid I need, but the only oil I've ever used is the light machine oil in the olive bottles. What's the best stuff I can get that won't fuck up TiN and just werk?

>>29611533

>>29611789

Hoppes 9 and lithium grease is what I love, and with it my gun has the smoothest action I've ever really seen with a standard BCG and all that.
>>29611807

>>29611771
you have to take it off to put your free float on anyways.... so yea it's retarded
>>29611789
clp is bretty good
>>29611789
you talking about assembling your rifle? all you should need is some aeroshell 33ms for the barrel and barrel nut and maybe some rockset for the muzzle device. you don't really need anything else.
>>29610781
Really if that's your rifle there's no way to make it pretty for cheap. There's got to be a lot of changes to make that thing look nice.
>>29611454
At least they bothered to email you back under their own volition. The company that makes my motherboard required several phone calls to even start he RMA process and never once replied to any of my emails.
>>29611533
Is there anything saying that Surefire cans don't go well with polymer tipped ammo? If they didn't make that fact evident then I'd probably pitch a fit for show in hopes they'll do something about it. Common sense or not, that's something they should advertise somewhere when selling their cans, and that's coming from someone who hates all that fucking "read manual before operating" preemptive track covering bullshit.
>>29611728
>Can't afford new rail

>>29611844
what mobo brand? I'm rebuilding my rig next year and sounds like I should avoid them.
>>29611868
ASRock, and do avoid them. Some prick suggested it to me and whoever it was I'm going to kick them in the nuts. Their mobo failed and they're being a bunch of whiny pricks about it. They shipped me a new one and it was damaged before it even arrived at my house and they then accused me of breaking it and trying to return it and said they'd accept it if I simply admitted I was lying and that it was my fault.
Bunch of fucking chinks out of calishithole who barely speak English and don't want to admit the simple fact that sometimes shit gets broken in shipping.
i emailed him to ask if it included the shipping, i don't know if i have the ability to argue the price down.

I'm sure it's someone else's fault you're a massive faggot, huh?
>>29611927

>>29611961

>>29611927
Honestly I think the blame should be spread out between you, the ammo company, and Surefire. All of you should've known something like this could've happened and things could've been done to prevent this. I also think Surefire is charging a ludicrous price for their repair.
>>29611941

>>29612163
if i had a second can, i would probably call federal and bitch at them and try to get them and sf to pay for the repairs, but since this is my only can, i just want it back.

it's a toolcraft bcg but with their logo. toolcraft is used as a replacement for bcgs by the military.
Watching Demdebate, Hillary shilling super hard to ban gun manufacturing in US, Bernie pointing out he tried to ban "assault weapons" in his state. Made me realize I should probably pick up an AR before November.
Am I missing anything and could I get some optics recommendations? I have shit eyes and hate red dots or 1x sights, would prefer something variable. I intend to use this gun primarily for hunting medium game and general duty rifle.
Was going to get a Marlin 1895GBL and Leupold VX-1 on Leupold See-Thru rings with my next paycheck but figured any bans wouldn't cover "fudd" guns like that and optics won't be banned. Would the optic set up I was planning for the 1895 work well enough on the AR?

Forgot charging handle. Any recommendations for a cheaper ambidextrous charging handle that doesn't suck ass?
>>29613460
raptor is the only option. don't be a cheap faggot and spend the $60
>>29613502
Fuck that sounds good to me. Couldn't seen to find shit under $120 earlier.
>>29613437
Highly recommend going with a 3-9x optic over the 2-7x
>>29613531
Was going to get the 2x7 just so I could throw it on the 1895 when I get it and find something more suited to the 300BLK AR.
>>29613271
What handguard is that ?
>>29610734
>>29611533
more than you can afford, pal.
>>29611533
>$650 to $400 le happy merchant "discount"
wew
You really should make them some sort of counteroffer.
If anyone, the ammo manufacturer is to blame, I'd assume a poly tip on ammo of all things is made out of a thermoset, not a thermoplastic, unless it specifically said on the box "do not magdump it'll melt lol".
>>29614330
Nasty.
>>29614591
his tips probably already started deforming in his pre-cookoff chamber
and then completely liquified themselves when they hit the can thus nosediving into the baffles
>>29614601
>his tips probably already started deforming in his pre-cookoff chamber
That's my point, you don't make a bullet component out of shit that starts running when your chamber gets hot. Or if you do, you tell the customer about it.
>thus nosediving into the baffles
Nah, that would look different. Shit would basically blow the fuck up.
It looks like it only started to yaw towards the end of the can, the ogive hit the ~7th to last baffle and fucked up the following ones, but corrected its course somewhat before exiting the can, otherwise the exit end of the can would look very different (his was mostly fine),
>>29614635
yeah well polymer tipped ammo is meant for hunting anyway
or precision shooting
but not for dumping like an idiot
Welp, I know what I want to do now.
10.3 SBR for home defense purposes, with an Aimpoint or MRO.
An 18 or 20 inch SPR with a 3-9x and gucci shit.
And finishing off my 16" with a light and 1-4x Leupold.
>>29612978
i wish, that would be perfect.
>>29614330
:)
>>29614591
i might try and haggle but i hate doing that.
>>29614601
>>29614635
>>29614643
yeah, it most likely started to melt in the chamber, once it left the barrel it destabilized and started to hit baffles immediately.
the last baffle was the one with the biggest hole and it stopped right at the end cap. it hit the thickest part of the end cap and that's why it didn't damage it.
normally i wouldn't mag dump poly ammo, but it was on 30cpr.
lesson learned
"I got your billet set coming from Mega
I should have it shipped to your FFL by Next week'
Aw Yis
>>29610734
I need to pull out my DSLR... Meh/10
>>29615063
You really don't have much position to haggle. You fucked up by using the wrong ammo. You can try and low ball them with some excuse or take it up the ass.
>>29615153
How is it the wrong ammo if they never indicated that you shouldn't use it?
>>29615063
Are baffle strikes covered by most suppressor companies? Or is it just inevitable and you're fucked once it happens?
>>29615170
they would tell you to pound sand to the ammo company or classify it as unstable ammo not to be used with the suppressors (like frangible).
>>29615179
it's not really inevitable as long as you play it safe. the only company I know of to cover baffle strikes is Silencerco but they only do it the first time.
>>29615246
It doesn't really hold much meaning if the damage has already been done. Hindsight is 20/20. If they knew it would cause a problem then they should have a warning not to use this commonly used kind of ammo.
So I'm shopping around for A2 parts and I just wanted to know how much I should expect to pay for a decent AR?
>>29615246
>like frangible
wait, frangible ammo isn't safe for cans?
>>29615030
sounds like a plan
that's a big dog btw
>>29615383
it isn't going to do much damage but it is highly unstable. some bad rounds can come apart inside the barrel.
>>29615313
>sounds like bad ammo anon. my polymer tipped bullets didn't melt in my gun :^
>>29615354
>A2 parts
Why though?
Try gunbroker
You might be able to build/buy one for less than $800
>>29615473
I'm from the land of syrup.
>>29615512
You should do an A1 build then.
Same performance, much more aesthetics
>>29615143
I like that setup, man. Not sure how I feel about the break, but whatever.
>>29615692
brake*
Postin my nekked gun
>>29615692
getting replaced for a break/ flashhider 51t suppressor mount for my new 762sd
>>29615857
Right on, it'll look better for sure.
Did any other Vortex owners know if you send Vortex an email bragging about your scope, they send you a free swag pack?
Cause I didnt, and now, after a ten minute and 3 email investment, I got free shit heading my way.
