I was planning on going to my LGS tomorrow and ordering a Glock 20 because I want a 10mm for my collection. Two questions before I go.

> Are the Gen 3 and Gen 4 Glocks basically the same in quality now or should I stick with the Gen 3

> Are there any other 10mm (not 1911) that I should consider other than the Glock 20 int he same price range?
>>
Why would you get a Gen 3 instead of a Gen 4 in the first place, assuming that the prices of the two are the same

there's a couple P220 variants in 10mm out now.

cons are it's more expensive than glock and doesn't hold as many rounds per mag

pros are steel frame makes for a better balance and softer recoil,
trigger is available in SAO or DA/SA and imo much better than glock,
grip is much more comfortable
looks much more stylish
it's very accurate too

your choice really, just wanted to make sure you knew about it since they've been out for less than a year and still to my knowledge aren't listed on sig sauer's main site

I have a gen3 g20 sf and have a shot a gen4, I didn't notice much of a difference.

g20 is the best 10mm on the market, don't bother with anything else.
>>
>>28595558
Do those Sigs have full chamber support?

>> Are the Gen 3 and Gen 4 Glocks basically the same in quality now or should I stick with the Gen 3
Gen4 has reversible mag release, dual captive spring on the larger models (not just subcompacts like gen3 did) and better more aggressive stippling. I just bought a gen4 and it came with 3 mags, same for my buddy recently from a different shop. Unless there is a very significant discount for going gen3, I wouldn't. I'd get the gen4.
>> Are there any other 10mm (not 1911) that I should consider other than the Glock 20 int he same price range?
Rock Island Armory makes a 1911 style one that a LGS has for $655 new (msrp is 8 something) but since you don't want a 1911 style, there is no better option than Glock for the money. The only reason I would consider the Rock Island Armory is because it's thinner. I don't like carrying a gun as thick as the Glock 29/20 or 30.

Any drawbacks to CCing a 10mm other than size of the weapon?
>>
>>28595650
No worries, I'll see if I can call Sig or something

>>28595652
You either get a fullsize handgun or a subcompact. For me, both of those are less than ideal.
>>
>>28595652
>Any drawbacks to CCing a 10mm other than size of the weapon?
None other than thickness and larger grip size than what you may or may not be used to.
>>
Tanfoglio makes guns in 10mm imported by EAA under the Witness line

you want to replace the recoil springs with heavier springs to shoot full house loads though
>>
>>28595888
Aren't there a few 10mm Sphinx handguns floating around too?
>>
>>28595429
>> Are the Gen 3 and Gen 4 Glocks basically the same in quality now or should I stick with the Gen 3

Basically the same, with a few design changes. Remember that both guns are being manufactured contemporaneously, so it's not like the Gen 3 will have "old world" manufacturing techniques, or the Gen 4 will have the "latest and greatest" manufacturing techniques. The quality and reliability rates should be identical. That said, I would recommend the Gen 4 because of the grip texture, the mag release size, and the fact that you get an extra magazine.

>> Are there any other 10mm (not 1911) that I should consider other than the Glock 20 int he same price range?
Glock 40 and Glock 29 both have their uses. The 29 packs a remarkable amount of firepower into the same size package as the HK P30SK, which is a 9mm subcompact. The 40 will give you more bullet velocity, which might make a difference in hunting or wilderness defense. Personally, I think the 20 is a very nice balance of size, weight and firepower for a lot of situations.

It is worth looking at the Sig P220 10mm, as well as the (discontinued) Smith and Wesson 1006 and 1076m but recognize that they are all low capacity and likely all going to be in the $1000 range, unless you can find a deal.

One thing I will say about the Glock 20 - and I have owned a Gen 3 (sold it) and currently own a Gen 4 - is that they jam occasionally with Underwood TMJ 180 grain and 200 grain ammo. Those loadings cause failures to feed. I've never had an issue with any other kind of ammo, and my current favorite ammo is Double Tap (although that's about twice the $$$), but those are loadings that I happened to buy a lot of before I knew that they didn't feed reliably and I happen to have a lot of the stuff that I now have to deal with shooting. Don't let anybody tell you that no Glock ever jammed. I've tested with two Glock 20's now, Gen 3 and Gen 4, and neither could reliably feed Underwood 180 gr or 200 gr TMJ.

A long time ago there was somebody on /k/ who had one

But that was probably half a decade ago
>>
>>28596099

>>
Quality wise, they are the same.

As far as actual differences go--
There is no such thing as a Gen4 SF if that is your thing. Because all Gen4's are no SF's. Practically speaking that is. Gen3 is the same size (more or less) as Gen4 with the medium backstrap on. So if you have small hands or short fingers in particular, get a Gen3 SF or Gen4. If you have larger hands, get the Gen4 for the additional backstrap capability.

The dual recoil springs will extend the life of the springs, but you won't notice much of a difference in shooting Gen3 vs 4.

And then you have the finger grooves and new grip texture, I for one am a fan of Gen4 grip texture and the finger grooves are fine for me. Some people don't like it.

I got a Glock 20 gen4 a week ago, it was surprisingly hard to find. Most people aren't savvy enough to understand 10mm is a superior round.

Also note that most 10mm loads are not to their full potential. Consider underwood ammo if you want full potential loads.

Also I really didn't want another glock cause I already have a glock 19... But imo sig sauer sucks ass so I had to go with glock...

Bought a 9mm shield same day lol. They're both hidden from my wife she would kill me if she knew about them. I'll tell her in a few months.

Pic unrelated, but sexy. Saw it on the wall in a men's suit store.

I've owned a bunch of Glocks, extremely reliable but everything can jam. I had my Glock 19 lock up on me due to a bad casing once. I had a Glock 36 that was a POS jam-o-matic. They should have been recalled.

Tanfoglio sounds like something you would get 1/2 a pound of at the deli.

I'll post here rather than starting a new thread. I've been trying to get a glock 19 for weeks /k/ and my mil/leo dealer here in Utah is 3 weeks past their delivery date with no glocks in sight, and the guy said he'd be surprised if they got it before next month. WTF is this bullshit. Every mil/leo dealer that sells to Utah is out of stock. I got my CFP just before Christmas as well as my holster and all I want to do now is CC but I fucking can't.

I dont know man. I walk in to my LGS, tell the guy what I want, pay, and get it 2 days later.

That doesnt have it. Might turn some heads. But it looks old, heavy, needs hand fitted parts, and made from shitty steel.

It even has four extra holes to hasten the frame cracking from real deal 10mm.

These guys know what's up. I opted for gen3 a few years back since the gen4 was relatively new and I wanted the kinks worked out. It was also much cheaper to buck rogers the shit out of and keep reliable. I've carried that same glock for years in an alien gear holster and I couldn't be happier with it. I also reload past "max load" ratings because I sometimes chase the velocity dragon with 135gr noslers. I would definitely recommend a stainless guide rod and a stronger spring (or set of if you go gen4) if you intend to shoot hot loads ;) and don't forget you'll need a different barrel if you intend to shoot lead like the good lord intended.
