Question for the dude from the previous thread that got DQ'ed from meps for a shy bladder. Couldn't you have prevented that DQ by simply drinking a shitload of water before providing the urine sample?

Question 2: From what I understand after arriving at marine boot camp every recruit has to call home and tell his parents that he/she arrived safely. Is that call optional? My parents live in Switzerland and don't understand English.

American here. Spent 5 years in the Air National Guard. I have one year left, and I plan on trying to go active duty, which from the looks of things is going to be easier said than done. I've heard talk though that Australia recruits a lot of Americans into their military. Is this true? Someone care to red pill me?

I want to apologize first about using a trip, but I've started to think about joining the military as an option immediately after my under grad.

Specifically I want to join the Air Force because I have a lot of family history there. My grandfather was a Lt. Colonel back during the Vietnam Era. I'll have a college degree with good enough grades, I've also lost a shit ton of weight over the course of four years and I'm definitely physically capable. I'd like to join, do my time, then go to grad school.

Question is, how would I go about talking to a recruiter, asking the right questions, and trying to go about this after college.

I should also note that Im a tranny and I'm probably fulfilling some negative stereotype of the air force but I think it is something I'd like to do.

To that guy in the previous thread asking why people shit on those who want to go SF:

You say shit like "how do you know they won't make it" and "it may just happen". You may just be the next bill gates, you may win the lottery but that doesn't mean it's probable.

Every fucking kid thinks they're going to be special super duper operator but they haven't spent a day in the military, they don't understand the lifestyle or the hardships, they just want to do cool guy stuff. There's nothing wrong with aspirations but special operations is years down the line and you haven't even started the first step yet, all while thinking you're better than every ordinary soldier.

If you're not getting a college degree, starting a career, leading a sports team and exercising up until about 24 you're probably not going to get direct entry. If you're planning on joining infantry thinking you're going to excel and just sweep on into special operations, everyone hates you. The officers have seen enough of your shit, they know you're just killing time until you move on to cool guy shit and that's not what they want, they want people dedicated to their current job.

Forget about special forces now, go and join the military in the job you want and focus on being the best at it. After 4 years then start thinking if you want to move on to something else

You heard it here first ladies and gentlemen, if you want to go SOF just focus on not being SOF. Ignoring your dreams for years will help you achieve them.

>From the last thread

I ended up adding 100 bodyweight squats and 50 lunges to my running days, I know it's a bitch workout but I'm just starting out.

>Couch to 5k
>Walk 3 miles home from work
>50 squats
>50 lunges
>50 squats

Sore as hell this morning but it feels good, ate some oatmeal with frozen berries and peanut butter and I'm good to go.
>>
>>28523785
>Couch to 5k
What?

>Walk 3
Just run one of those miles. Either the first, or second one.

>Squats
>Lunges
Change those to pushups and crunches.
>>
>>28523730
That's right

There's a difference between keeping in mind an aspiration in the future and going infantry, hating it all for 4 years, thinking how things will be super cool when you advance, then realizing special operations is even worse

If you never learn to love the job you're in you'll be yet another drop out

Feel free to go and tell your recruiter all about your plan to go SOF, then get a couple medal of honours, leave and then retire on the money your PMC company is making. Remind the instructors how pathetic they are for not being as superior as you'll soon be before even leaving for boot camp.

Get back to me when you kill Osama 2.0, hero

Couch to 5k is a running program, google is your friend

>Just run

>Pushups
I alternate core and upper body on my non cardio days.
>>
Started jogging a few weeks ago to begin getting fit enough to join the military. I don't know how I never noticed it before, but I was looking in a full-body mirror a couple days ago and I realized for the first time in my life that I'm slightly knock-kneed. So far at least, I haven't been able to tell that there's any negative effect on my ability to run because of this.

Assuming I can run just fine, is this likely something that would be cause for a DQ? One thing I've considered is that it might be difficult for me to stand at attention, especially for long periods of time.

>>28523785
Do bulgarian split squats/shrimps/pistol squats instead of regular squats. Keep the lunges.
>>
>>28525066
To clarify, doing one of those 3 I named will allow you to build leg strength with bodyweight exercises by increasing the resistance a lot. Pretty much nobody can build strength with regular squats without weights, because doing 100 bodyweight squats is an endurance exercise, and won't make your legs much stronger.
>>
>>28521738
No, we dont unless you have citizenship here.
>>
>>28525066
>>28525106
At the moment I have trouble with pistol squats, I'm only doing bodyweight to work up to them.
And endurance isn't a bad thing for me right now.

Thanks for the advice though, replacing normal squats with pistols or shrimps is a goal now.

do you fucking realise that that is the attitude of the loser?

i know a bunch of guys that went operator. you know what they had in common? they wanted to be it, they said they wanted to be it and they went for it. and they got it.

the 'winning attitude' isn't a fucking meme, m8. it's what you actually need to get anything real done, including becoming an operator. sitting on your ass all day going 'oh i don't know if i can do this i'll just do something else instead for a while to help make up my mind' is exactly how you get fucking. no. where.

look another cod kiddy

i'm sick of your shit

so ok bitches, here is the real dope

you want to be delta, first you have to join up with an ivy league phd and minimum 10 gpa

then you have to pass the physical. if you're not 6'5 and at least 300lbs with a professional nfl career behind you, forget it manlet, you're not getting in.

then THEY approach YOU. you got to their top secret facility in DC where you undergo the what they call HELL WEEK. during HELL WEEK they test you in the most simple and most brutal method ever. for 24 hours a day, every day, for a week, they punch you in the nuts. that's right faggots, they punch you RIGHT IN THE FUCKING NUTS, all day, every day, all week. that's why they call it HELL WEEK.

you think that's the end? think again motherfuckers. after that, you have to kill your mom. and your dog. don't have a mom or a dog? you're not getting in, you fucking commie.

then it's a ten year MINIMUM probationary period, during which you're in federal prison. can't handle that? you don't have what it takes to be in delta you pussy.

if you survive federal prison and get a presidential pardon, then and ONLY THEN, you can put in a packet. but if you're over 40 and under 80 then go to hell you bitch, you don't have the experience to be CAG.

you think you got what it takes? forget it, you're not going to make it.
>>
>>28525690
And for every person that really wanted it only about 50% of them wanted it by the time paperwork was all filled out

And then minority of those who really really wanted it will make it through selection

>>

Touchy feely liberal bullshit aside, you don't seem to realise that that is actually the only way that people get anywhere, reach their goals or better themselves. They don't do that by standing around waiting for shit to come to them. This shit doesn't fall from the sky. No one is going to give it to you. That doesn't mean it won't be hard. But your attitude is the attitude of failure. And it's that simple.

Is there any Army officers lurking on here at 2-3am in the morning? Hows sandhurst? Or if there is somehow any RTR Tank commanders alive on this thread how was training?

Also are there any US tankers lurking here? How was your training? I'm curious. Fucking hell, this strawman again.

Stop pretending that that is what anyone has said.

Point out to me right the fuck now, where anyone said that it would be easy. Stop trying to portray anyone giving advice as liberal hugbox faggots.

The difficulty is not the issue. Your total lack of balls and the desire to destroy others who are, unlike yourself, at least willing to try, is the issue.

There are entire websites by operators for people who want to become operators. NSW even worked up an entire 6 month program for civillians to get fit for BUD/S. Why? Because they want people to become operators, because they always need operators and the only people who get through are those who are personally motivated themselves to just do it. So any civillian prepared to do that program has at least half of what it takes.

Think you wait aroung for a permission slip from your mommy?

>>28526410
>What if I'm so not awesome that I'm kicking my own ass trying to get fit enough to be able to do those routines?

The NSW routine scales to your current level of fitness. NSW aren't stupid and know you have to start from somewhere, unlike NOT WANTED. So you basically do a fitness test and then slot in at the appropriate level. It's actually a good program but you only get one day off a week so don't go too hard too fast, otherwise you're fucked by week three.

>Also, does anybody else notice how pissed off everyone gets around you when you put bettering yourself before other stuff?

Unfortunately yes, and this is part of the human condition and often discussed by motivational speakers. People who don't come from success often have a hard time reconciling success with their past. Basically, you're leaving the herd and they don't won't to lose you. You have to be firm. Hopefully you can help lift the others up but truth be known, it's as likely they'll pull you down. Life is hard. Do it anyway.

>>28526417
We've had whole threads on intelligence and other trades. There were ones that were all Navy and Air Force. We're just going through an operator phase at the moment.
>>
>>28526533
>The NSW routine scales to your current level of fitness. NSW aren't stupid and know you have to start from somewhere
I'll look into that one. First I'm going to do a couple months of what I'm doing now, just to get into the groove. I've figured a 12 month progression is what I'll do. Couple months attaining a basic level of fitness, then getting into one of the 'operator' prep workout programs.

>Basically, you're leaving the herd and they don't won't to lose you.
This is exactly what it feels like. Glad it's a normal thing, makes me feel like less of an ass for putting myself first.

I'm going elec warfare operator

Speshul forces interested me when I was younger and may be a possibility in the future but right now I'm focusing on becoming an EWO

I'm also the guy who's somehow making people really mad by telling them the same advice given to me. Seriously, I think many of us were in the same position when we were younger, wanting to join the military to be the shooty guy and be elite. It's just silly for the most part and most people haven't truly thought it over
>>
Also just saying generally no matter how physically fit you are after you get past the initial physical fitness screening, a lot of peeps drop out and go security forces

My job (pretty much a gunner/flight engi combined) is more exclusive than special forces. Only 280ish of us
>>
>>28526596
Sounds like a solid plan. The thing to remember with fitness is that volume is the deciding factor and the only way you can get enough volume is with consistancy. To start with this means consistantly doing small workouts. Binge and purge does not work, nor does over-reaching yourself before you have the work capacity to handle high volume in one workout. Medium volume workouts 5 days a week in the end beats high volume workouts two days a week. Of course, you get to the level where your medium volume is someone else's heavy session.

This is usually how elite athletes come through, especially in say, olympic weightlifting. As their work capacity increases they end up doing a lot of big workouts (for you), sometimes multiple times a day.
>>
>>28526383

>Seriously, I think many of us were in the same position when we were younger, wanting to join the military to be the shooty guy and be elite. It's just silly for the most part and most people haven't truly thought it over.

I know a bunch of guys who are now operators. None of them thought that wanting to go for it was silly. None of them told other guys who wanted to do it that they were silly. What they said was 'It's hard, but you won't know if you don't try so get prepared.'. And then they gave them training advice. Because they are nothing at all like you.

Ditch this 'younger' shit. You're not mature and world wise. If you were, you'd know something more about goal setting.

This is called being realistic. I won't deny there are many stupid people in the military driven by their delusions
>>
>>28526832
Biggest obstacle so far is actually keeping realistic goals. 12 months is my 'stop and evaluate progress' point, then if I'm at a point I think I'm ready I'll enlist, if not I'll do another 6 months higher intensity.

But looking at timetables measured in a year or more feels so distant that it was hard to be focused at first.
We all want results nownownow and knowing I won't even see the numbers on the scale change for a month got in my own head at first.

>This is called being realistic.

Except it's actually not. But the fact that you don't realise this only effects you, so who really cares. As said before just stop being a faggot and stop trying to take people down to your level. You're ridiculing people who enough balls to try, claiming some sort of authority about it. Like you'd fucking know.

And you keep trying to paint people who want to be hardchargers, and the people pointing them in the right direction as liberal faggots. You have issues, stop trying to dress them up as 'realism', just because you're too scared to go pararesue.

You're the prick in every basic that keeps telling everyone that it's too hard, when everyone else is trying to get it done.

In ten years time you'll be some fat fuck congratulating yourself on never bothering to put in a packet for special operations, because it's silly and 'everyone knows' that you probably would have failed. Have fun with that.

Pistol squats are very hard. Your progression will probably go split squats -> shrimps -> pistol squats. You should be doing them like weighted squats in sets of relatively low reps. And I recommended leaving in lunges for the endurance. Endurance isn't bad but if you're already running and doing lunges you will get a lot more benefit from doing some strength-building exercises than from doing more endurance training.
>>
>>28527088
>SF isn't out of the picture but it just seems absolutely overrated and misunderstood

Quality, because they're the only branch that all do their real jobs all the time.

>>28527216
Combat is overrated though. People only want to be in combat because they think it looks cool to watch in media. This does not mean it is cool to actually experience. And regardless of your opinion of combat experience, you have a 99.9% chance of spending your entire enlistment as a janitor anyway. Even in 2003-04 only something like 1/3 of units deployed and most of those never saw combat.
>>
>>28526961

>>
>>28527211
>split squats -> shrimps -> pistol squats.

By setting realistic and progressive goals. If you walk into a gym and say you're going to be the next squat record holder but have only been doing lunges for a couple months I'll laugh at you

>What do you have to say to people like >>28526706 #

>>28527211
This. Used to be a PT. Beginners doing pistol squats is stupid. They always roll their feet, their knees fall into shit positions and they bounce. Great way to get knee pain, not a great way to get stronger

When split squats and lunges and step ups exist you just have to wonder why people bother with pistol squats for any other reason than getting better at split squats

>>28527342
I would start with 3 sets of 8, if you're not tired, do 5 sets of 8. Once you can do 5 sets of 8 and still have some juice left, move up to 5 sets of 9 or 10. Once you reach 5 sets of 12 try moving to the next variation. If you can't do 3 sets of 8 of the next form, just do one set and then do the rest with the form you can do.

For example, you can do 5 sets of 12 split squats, but only 2 sets of 6 shrimps. Do one set of 8 shrimps and then do 3-4 sets of 12 split squats until you can do 3 sets of 8 shrimps.
>>
>>28526893

There are procedures similar to LASIK but distinct. The Air Force explains this on their site pretty clearly. Wait till you have that sweet, sweet Tricare first though.

>>
>>28528117
It's really not that serious. Just do pushups, situps, and run. Basic itself will take care of the rest, if you're not a pussy and actually push yourself.
>>
>>28528353
If you're gaining fitness in basic you're doing it wrong
>>
>>28527632
I'm not sure of the exact designation, but the army has drone operators too.
>>
>>28528362
If he's asking how to get fit here he probably doesn't have time to go on some crazy routine if he already signed up. I didn't really get into decent shape until got to my unit, and I could actually go to the gym regularly and start taking supplements.
>>
So are MARSOC Raiders essentially just the lovechild of the SEALs and Rangers?
>>
how many pushups, situps, and pullups and mile time for a good physical fitness score?
>>
>>28528473
100 pushups, 100 situps, 100 pullups, 0:01 run time

I'm reasonably fit, used to run cross country in high school and can still jog 3.6 miles without stopping. My pushup max is at around 40 right now, not sure about situps since I do spiderman plank crunches instead. Haven't enlisted yet, going to take the ASVAB either tomorrow or the day after. Only weighted exercises I do are with dumbells.
>>
>>28526961
U gun git Bragg'd.
>>
>>28528597
You won't struggle too much then. Pt in basic is garbage, just keep it and you'll see how easy it is.

Hey /meg/

For a long time, I wanted to finish up this AA and then enlist, hopefully submitting an application after I get a 4 year.

But, all this shitposting about all enlisted being proffessional sweepers has convinced me.

Is it possible to do an ROTC program for only 2 years? Or would I have to try my hand at OCS?

I know if I graduate OCS I would have very little chance of actually getting a job I want.

I also don't really want to have some office desk job, really want a different experience.

Advice?
>>
>>28528735
>Is it possible to do an ROTC program for only 2 years?

Yes, this is normal.
>>
>>28528757
That's a breather

thanks
>>
>>28528757
I'm 44% done with a 4 year degree, too late to start?
>>
>>28528941
It's never too late, but you have to take a military science minor, so depending on your exact degree plan and what you've taken so far, doing ROTC may cause you to have to add an extra semester or year onto your degree in order to fit all the credits for your new minor.
>>
>>28528964
Well I'm a Bio/Chem major. Natural Sciences at my Uni doesn't actually offer any "minors."
>>
>>28525683
Opposite with me. Made me realize I should do DEP because civ life is boring.

>anon it's dangerous, you could die
Uhh yeah crossing the street too
>getting shot/blown up
What is ghetto neighborhoods, autists, and freeway accidents
>it's shill work/Iow pay loser shit
Yah and so is working at Target, being a bank teller, and etc.

Civ shit sucks. It's boring and not challenging nor prestigious.
>>
>>28529088
I'm with you man
It's hard making the almost brotherly friendships with people as a normal person than as someone in the military
>>
>>28529016
If your degree doesn't have room for a minor, then you're definitely going to need extra time for the credits to add one. Or you could just take a higher credit load per semester.

Top result on google has that minor at 28 credits.
>>
>>28529135
I mean that my Uni's College of Natural Sciences doesn't offer "minors."

I have some 18 hours that I am supposed to dedicate to specialized neurosciences, biology, or chemistry of my choice OR I can do a "certificate" in business or some other such nonsense.

My normal credit load is 15 hrs/semesters
>>
>>28529088
>low pay loser shit

Pretty irrelevant when housing, food, and health care is free.
>>
>>28528473
Pretty sure 100, 100, 8, 6 minutes will get you a perfect score on every PFT. iirc those are at or slightly above a perfect score for the qualifying test to go to Navy SOF selection.
>>
>>28528735
Enlisted being professional sweepers is just the infantry/combat arms. Enlisted technicians/mechanics/etc do plenty of cool/interesting stuff.
>>
>>28529016
Just because there are no natural science minors at your school doesn't mean you can't get a minor. If your school has ROTC, you will get a minor in military science.
>>
>>28529295
wtf exactly is a minor in "military science" google lends me no hand
>>
>>28529285

So you've decided to enlist. You're not just going to be some REMF or POG schmuck. You're going to operate. Trying to decide which Special Operations unit you're going to join is actually a lot trickier than it sounds.

Let's go down the list from least to most respectable:

Air Force Combat Controllers and Pararescuers are eliminated right off the bat because they're fucking Chair Force. If you're in the USAF and you're not flying a fighter, you've fucked up.

Coast Guard ASTs? Are you kidding me? Coast Guard? Get the fuck out. You can be a lifeguard at the Y.

Marine Raiders are pretty cool but they're also pretty new so no one knows them and no one will care when you tell them you are one. Also, Marines are generally dumb as shit.

The Army Rangers should be near the top of anyone's list. The last famous Ranger, though, was Pat Tillman and he was shot by his own guys. Half the Army has a Ranger tab on their shoulder so no one will care if you're a real Ranger. Plus, it's impossible to tell people you were in the Army without people thinking you weren't tough enough for the Marines.

The Army Special Forces are extremely cool and everyone respects them, but as a Green Beret, you will be doing a lot of helping dirty-ass locals with their problems. Fucking waste of time. Do you want to be in the Peace Corps or do you want to operate?

The Navy SEALs are a great choice. Everyone respects the hell out of them, but "American Sniper" made them all look like a bunch of goofballs except for Chris Kyle, who was a liar. Worse, the Navy's dress uniform is as faggy as the rest of the Navy.

But there is another option:
The GCP is France's version of the Rangers. To join them you have to join the Foreign Legion first and serve there for a couple of years. But then, you're fighting for France. So fuck that.

As you can see, there's no perfect choice, but such is life among the elite warriors of America: you have to sometimes make do with what you're given.

Best of luck!
>>
>>28530088
why do you always do this? does it make you feel good?

You're just butt mad as hell that other people MIGHT go SOF and be better than you so you shit post like a fucking child. You didn't even fucking join the military and you think that makes you better or smarter than everyone who did, but you're going to die with no cool stories and someone else is going to do things worth telling grand kids on their death bed.

It's a generally cool AFSC. We are the gun loaders and sensor operators (read: trigger men) on ac-130s, in NSAV we work with alphabet agencies putting their people to the corners of the earth secretly, on HH-60s we do search and rescue with PJ'S stateside and in deployed environments, and on the UH-1 hueys we guard/escort nuclear missiles and missile silos

>>28527492
Get used to it.

>>28527632
Gonna be looking a 1U0X1 sensor operators. They don't pilot thedeone, just work the weapon systems. As of like 2 months ago we have an enlisted AFSC to pilot drones, but I'm not sure of the numerical designation. Prolly gonna be xAxxx whenever it's released.

>>28528117

For air force bmt: be able to run 25 mins without stopping. Then do 1 minute rest, then 6 minutes of alternating sprinting and running every 30 seconds

Go for 45 pushups with the min. being 32
Go for 55 situps with the min. being 42

Pull ups don't count on our pt test

Hey guys

Why do people even go general military when SF is available? Like... why are there so many people who are absolute losers? How can so many people just be quitters?

Also, do you have to wear the standard uniforms in the military? I'm going to talk to a recruiter soon about becoming a navy seal and wanted to know whether you could wear your own masks in the military. I've always really liked the skull mask balaclava from call of duty and wondered if it would be acceptable to bring to boot camp

Eastern Bloc is dominating FFL at the moment, so you're good

speak french or get hit, thats a rule of thumb.

nah, it's not THAT much like prison.

make no mistake, it essentially is prison, but when you get deployed, you'll love it.

fitness is important, just so you dont get beaten down as hard.
