/k/ generally recommends a slick carrier, so you can run just plates or a chest rig on top

You'll usually be looking about $100+ for anything that's not regarded by the gq's as airshit

Check out skd tac's Pig Brig ~$120
http://www.skdtac.com/PIG-Brig-Plate-Carrier-All-Molle-Rear-SYSTEMA-p/pig.401.htm

Ferro Concepts makes a slick with a cummerbund that allows you to carry mags on your sides, around ~$123

http://ferroconcepts.com/products/the-slickster

If you want webbing, Shellback/TAG should have a carrier or two for around $100 also

https://www.tacticalassaultgearstore.com
>>
>>28342600
(Not him)
Why a slick carrier? What does it have over a normal molle'd one except maybe be .3mm slimmer?
>>
>>28341853
memepat

faggotcam
>>
>>28342650
/k/ typically does not recommend a slick.
Figure out what you need to carry on the carrier, then find the best one that can fit it. for me that be a bladder bag, 3 magazines, and an Ifak on my right side.
I bought a JPC because it has kangaroos for mags (i use a dtandard shingle but same deal) and it has molle on the back for my lbt bladder pouch. The ifak rides on the cummerbund.
Placcards are cool in concept but theyre needles bulky, just like a layered chest rig. That shit shifts around.
/k/ might recommend slicks for a cheapo option since most quality brands make some slick for ~$100, but a dedciated PC is better
>>
What's a good, durable pair of gloves for under $100?
>>
>>28342219

If you're not in a job where getting shot is a normal assumed risk don't waste your money on plate carriers and stick to just a rig. I personally shill http://www.kommandostore.com/by-country/south-africa/south-african-defense-force-pattern-83-chest-rig.html

Take the money you saved and put it towards ammo and personal development.

If you do work such a job here you go http://www.skdtac.com/FirstSpear-The-Slick-x2122-Ultralight-Plate-Car-p/fsr.521.htm

>>28342650

It's way more adaptive and flexible.

I have all my shit on a dedicated pc because I want to put one thing on and be good to go but this also means that I'm relatively restricted as if I want to switch to a more discreet kit, or drop the excess because I'm going to be in a turret, or switch from a 5.56 kit to a 7.62 kit, etc I need to have the time and opportunity to take my pc off, remove what I don't want, add what I do want, and don it again.

Slick + rig(s) means each item can be worn separately or together and any changes to the rig can be made in seconds instead of minutes and without reducing protective posture as the slick need not be removed.

If you always stay in a very tight and specific lane there is nothing wrong with a dedicated pc but if you're military you will definitely want the option to drop gear while mounted actions.
>>
>>28342691
Cheers! If i may; You say you have 3 mags upfront and I see this quite a lot, what's the reasoning behind this, is it a range thing, that's just what's comfy? How much would you say is good for combat? I'm talking about full on battles, Syrian civil war style?

And belts with soft armour, worth it?

Sorry for pouncing on you with questions <3
>>
>>28342834

Go to your nearest hardware store and pick a pair out that are less than $30. Mechanix is a popular choice.
>>
>>28342848
Not him but for me I carry four mags on my rig and one in my gun. Mostly a range thing because I don't plan to be in any extended fights and I find that weight very manageable.
I go with four because I've had an exmil buddy tell me a general rule is a soldier can fight back to a resupply or evac with three mags at a minimum.
So I have my three+one on my rig, the plus one for reloads or if I have a malfunction where I need to abandon the in gun mag. My thought process is if I can't solve a problem in 60 shots by myself it shouldn't be a problem I am willingly taking on.

As for going to war many Vets will swear by the six minimum on their gear, though I have heard and seen photos of troops with many more, I've had a buddy tell me he carried 12 mags which seems a bit excessive but I have never served so who am I to say.
Armored belts for me seem a bit unnecessary, but that is with my thought mentality, I even think plates are pushing necessary for me but that doesn't mean I don't want them and probably wont get them.
The belt seems a bit useless to me because it covers such a smaller and less vital area than a plate would. Also I'm not much of a fan of soft armor, unless if fits in your job I suppose like a LEO or armored car operator and I can't really see them wearing a battle belt unless there are others I'm unaware of.

shit faced as I type this so excuse any errors hope it helps, hopefully someone more sober and knowledgeable can chime in.
>>
>>28342848

Not him but
>3 mags upfront and I see this quite a lot, what's the reasoning behind this
It weighs less and is slimmer which allows for a lower position when firing in the prone.
It also means that if the person finds themselves in a protracted engagement they should withdraw for fear of running out of ammo and that their ability to provide suppressing fire necessary for effective fire and maneuver is limited.

>How much would you say is good for combat?
6+1 is a basic military combat load. When heavy contact is anticipated 1.5-2x that is not unheard of alongside contico boxes/milk crates of loaded mags in vehicles or static positions.
>>
>>28342961
>implying I only carry 3 mags

>>28342848
my three other mags are on my belt, for a total of seven. I cant weigh in on soft armor in a belt but it would do a better job at protecting you lower back and kidneys.
>>
>>28342836
>thinks he will be changing rifles on the fly

Just have a dedicated vest/rig for .308 and a dedicated PC for 5.56. easy peasy. As for shedding excess shit, get a belt
>>
>>28342961
oh and in regards to a prolonged fire fight: I dont have those, I live in a farm house in Illinois. My "grab and go" is a BFG with 4 mags and an Ifak. It is there if I need to deal with some shit around my house.

What are some good tactical pants brands? I got 5.11s and they ripped within the week, I walked a total of maybe 4 miles in them while on duty and the mace can and flashlight I kept in the cargo pockets started wearing holes through them. A buddy also said his ripped the first time he fell in them. These obviously are cosplay pants and can't hold up to real use worth a shit but I don't know of any other options.

>>
>>28343315
Bullshit. I've worn the same 5.11s everyday for 2 years, used every pair from EDW to hiking to heavy innawoods, and they are still in tact everywhere. You probably got yours a size too tight. 5.11 Taclite Pros are excellent pants.
>>
>>28343348
They don't use universal sizing for some reason, and the waist sizes were small medium and large. I got small which was advertised as 27"-31", which should have been ok since I'm a size 29-30, but the straps were so tight they stayed at a size 27... Why they do this idk, seems fucking retarded. Universal sizing is universal for a reason.

But anyway I cut the straps so they stayed at a size 35+ with no retention on the waist other than what my belt provided, that probably wasn't the issue. Try actually doing things in them, fatty. I'm willing to wager that material won't hold up if your knees touch the ground more than a few times, it couldn't even hold up a 1.8oz can of mace...
>>
What are some good winter Oper8n trousers? Lightweight summer stuff I got down, but I don't know what'll work for winter short of milsurp ECW stuff which is probably a little overkill. Anyone have any suggestions?

Here is the sizing on their website. Like most American mens clothing makers, they use measured waist sizes:

Also, Medium ESAPIs weigh 1lb more than your shitty 3+. If you can't handle 2 extra pounds for much better protection you probably have more problems to worry about first, like fitting into a plate carrier that doesn't require that much material to make it weigh 10 lbs like you claim.

Buy an Ops Core... MICH 2001s made by revision are more or less the same spec as the old MSA ones, but they are heavy as shit compared to Ops Cores. I'm not an Ops Core fanboy at all, but for the money, you're just better off buying an OC.

POG or never served.
>>
>>28345632
Yeah, I guess.. Ops Core High Cut, Airframe and Exfil Ballistic are all in the same general price range. I would probably buy an Airframe out of that lot.

I really don't see a reason to buy an EXFIL, they are pretty niche and don't have as much component support. They are also not incredibly light at 2.6 pounds, compared to 2.3 for the Airframe and 2.64 for the Ops Core (Taking these from TNVC btw). EXFILs come with railz and shroud standard though
>>
Actually, with the fantastic Cam Fit and Zorbium pads, the EXFIL is a lot more appealing... You're really only paying maybe 600$ for the shell, all the add ons make the extra 350-ish dollars.

If I bought an Airframe and put a Cam Fit, Zorbiums, Crye Cover, Crye Rails, and a Norotos Universal Shroud, it would cost about 1400$

So, looked again did research. Looking at 4 plate carriers the intended use being training in my personal time and with my guard unit, as personal armor is authorized. But that means it needs to have enough room to carry 6 magazines, 2 grenade, 1 flash, at least 1 canteen, and one medical pouch.
It also needs to fit medium sapis and 10x12 plates, as my trainers and issued plates are med., and my standalones coming in the mail are 10x12
Cyre JPC
>most expensive choice
>lightweight and minimalist choice.
>lots of you guys like it
>6 week waiting period

Mayflower APC
>second most expensive
>super popular
>has that velcro and buckle swift attachment shit I don't want or dont think I want
>might not fit mediums and 10x12
First Spear STT
>Innovative attachment system means no Velcro
>the 6 12 tubes thing looks like a cool mounting system
>has the skd spec that means pontoon compatible, properly placed plates
>will work with med and 10x12
>people say the attachment system digs in to their shoulder when they shoulder a rifle.
Paraclete SOHPC
>cheapest
>side plates
>25% less webbing weight
>fits 10x12 and mediums.
>older design
>missing features like a kangaroo pouch, not super padded
>also skd speced

A set of GPNVG's? Maybe if I can get more than one pair.

What's wrong with AR500? I thought it was pretty good.

I can't imagine ceramics would work well for me. I need something that wont be compromised because I keep dropping it/tripping and falling on it.

AR500 can get penetrated by 5.56 M193 and common hunting rounds. Whereas ceramics are good up to and including AP 5.56 and AP .30-06.

Ceramics are quite durable. It's mainly dropping them on the corners you have to not do.

Ceramics aren't sensitive as most people would have you think. You can drop to the prone and fall on your back in them repeatedly and they'll be fine. As long as you don't drop them on the corners, which I know for a fact you have the hand-eye coordination not to, they're fine. The military wouldn't be issued ceramics if they were that weak.

If I go a reread your old infographics, I think you suggested 6+1 primary, 2+1 secondary. But that doesn't apply to all people.
A discussion of different loads for different mission types maybe
Infantry patrol load
Assaulter's load
HD set up
Active shooter

You could talk about different types of clothing
Combat boots vs hiking mids vs tennis shoes
Bdus vs Acus vs 5/11 vs Cyre vs Blue jeans
Layer properly for cold weather
Combat shirts vs blouses vs tees vs underarmor performance stuff

You could talk about not gear stuff and discuss ar15 styles if you were comfortable with that. It's a project I was considering for the /arg/ tripfags to work together on. An infographic of various ar15 builds for different POUs.

I appreciate all the suggestions. I'm steering clear of load outs because I feel that it would be getting away from the basics I've tried to stick to and that it also gets cosplay-ish. For primary I state that one should carry as much as they need to ensure that they don't run empty and their physical abilities. Whether that's just 1+1 or 12+1 is on them. I will say for secondary I would not recommend having more than 2+1. If you can carry more than 2+1 secondary mags you should be carrying more primary mags or just saving the weight, period.

I think you need to decide if you want to keep going with gear queer infographics, or expand to other environments, because while those topics are important for anyone who actually USES gear, they're starting to get off topic, and "stray from the basics" as you said.

That being said, I'd like to see on this board is more discussion of training and fitness as there both of interest to me, but I think it could easily lead to one upman ship and chair bound Travis Haleys.

If you do pc, chest rigs, slicks n' shit, don't forgot to talk about battle belts and subloads. Subloads may be situational or maybe just dumb, but just like surplus steel helmets and crappy drop legs holsters, you should include them.

>they're starting to get off topic, and "stray from the basics" as you said.
I get what you're saying but I personally feel that training and fitness are basics of gear and that discussing them reflects my guides' intent at being directed at those who want to actually use their gear. If I do a write-up I'll definitely orient the focus of either to revolve around gear and not just be the /fit/ sticky or whatever.

>subloads
I'll definitely keep them in mind.

Talk about clothing. Boots, pants, gussets, proper layering (for cold fags) proper boots, socks.

Make an info graph and think about the first private you taught.
