apocalytpic aircraft carrier.jpg

Hi, /k/. Writefag here. I have some background in sailing and I like reading about naval history, so I want to write about a post-apocalyptic naval battle.

I'm trying to work out how I might want to make a certain tactical paradigm happen. I really find the battlecruiser action at Jutland interesting and would like to emulate some of those dreadnought-era tactics. However, I also want room for ramming, boarding, and general swashbuckling.

One thing I was thinking was having the ships in the vein of 16th century war galleys, but with crude steam engines replacing rowers. So, there could be a gunnery duel.

I kinda wanted to have guys with poorly maintained speedboats and AKs whose bores have been so shot out that that they might as well be smoothbore going up against well maintained wooden boats where the people are using small-arms out of the 1800s.

Any help?
>>
Read up on WWII PT boats. They were pretty much the epitome of that speedboat idea, only well-equipped and supplied. Regarding the steamships, perhaps a good idea would be to have hulks of older vessels that have been refurbished, like the tanker in Waterworld. (Which I would recommend watching if you want to get some ideas regarding the aesthetics and engineering of post-apocalyptic ships.)
>>
>>28274585
I was imagining two lines of warships, one of rusty pre war ships with men firing battered RPGs at their opposites and the other of retro ironclads passing each other in the dying light, with the only illumination being the fires raging on the decks of wounded ships. Every so often, a ship slows to a crawl and drifts out of formation, belching fire from its hatches as it is consumed.
>>
>>28274901
I was skeptical at first, but I'm starting to dig this idea.

Yeah good luck on the enormous fuel requirements faggot. you think its expensive now? You'll try to buy it, fail, try to steal it, and be laughed at and destroyed.

Waterworld anon.
>>
Early steam ships still had sails, i could see ships going back to that, running under sail in order to conserve fuel, but firing up their boilers to maneuver during engagements or when becalmed.

as for swashbuckling, i imagine that each ship would be trying to out maneuver the other/ avoid being fired upon until the enemy is disabled or grappled onto/snagged, then coming along side and commencing boarding actions.

as for weapons, i imagine dumb fire torpedoes possibly, very limited large cannons, a good amount of small arms and probably quite a bit of grappling launchers to try and latch onto the enemy ship

>being able to kill modern warships with RPGs

And anons give me shit in navy threads about saying we need to armor our ships more. Before the all or nothing armor scheme, EVERYTHING was armored relatively homogenously.

Nowadays we have nuclear reactors... we have no excuse to not deck out our ships with armor.

You should read "Crossed:Wish you Were Here" it's about a group of survivors living on an Island of the coast of Scotland and trying to fight off semi-intelligent rage virus zombies. Eventually they encounter a group of American Survivors who live on a series of boats all hooked up to a cruise ship. It has great Land/Sea battles and a couple of interesting boarding scenes, as well where the ship gets it's fuel is a major plot point.

Its just good western rape/gore porn.

Which is a nice niche, but they have an annoying tendency to go offscreen when a lot of the main women characters get raped or pumped full of crossed cum in all their holes during the downer endings despite showing them getting their clothes ripped off or having them come back later as naked Crossed sluts.

I guess even the edgy writers can't risk offending their SJW 'values'.
>>
>>28276589
I guess, I just feel like it's less of an attempt to not offend and more of a desire to not draw straight up porn. The lens of the artist indicates what they enjoy, what they find enthralling. Thus, they probably don't want to focus on that sort of thing either for fear of appearing to be sociopaths or for simple virtue of just not being sociopaths.

This so much.

I think they pretty much skirt what is legal for them to draw since I believe Ennis owns the series and he's a north irish limey. Hell how many times have they referrenced child rape (both as victim and suspect). That shit is pretty bad, no questions about it.

I would just like to see one of those previous female protagonist getting mouth fucked from the viewpoint of the crossed, crying tears in pain and defilement with her mouth ravaged until said Crossed dude busts a nut and she begins to show the face rash and turn into a hungry nymph all while still sucking that dick and covered in cross sperm.

But then she'd probably take a bite and ruin the boner after. Sigh, feels bad not really having a guro fetish.

Anyways you keep up with the new arcs where humanity goes full Remove Horsecock and kills all the stupid crossed until the smart ones begin to retaliate.

I was writing something similar, but featuring a far future in which replicators exist. Thus, before the world blew itself to hell, as part of the the war against China, Japan built us an aircraft carrier. Seeing as this is 200 years from now, we didn't really need it, so it was left to moulder. It was huge, large enough to fucking effect the weather. It was basically two huge air craft carriers put together, after the war the space between the hulls was filled with an ever changing series of cat walks and shacks and the decks were covered in farms, business's and wealthy homes.

A society and caste system emerged, with various families and social groups taking over certain tasks. It ends up like a small floating city of sorts, complete with a military cult made up of the descendants of the army brats that ran to the ship when the bombs fell.

They claim there is some great secret passed down from generation to generation about the ship and its purpose, but most people think they just want to convince people of their importance so they can continue getting the best food and the best accommodations.

The ship uses the remnants of its automatic navigation system to make voyages across the pacific. Other than that, it sticks close to shore so that the away teams always have somewhere close by to scavenge for parts, as directed by the Aquisitions Department (glorified researchers that dig through physical records and plans as well as data fragments in hopes of locating certain specialized items for the ships community).
>>
>>28277951
For a second I thought you meant the Chinese were the replicators, which made me chuckle.
>>
>>28276281
>>28277879
>>28277950
>>28277982
if these were common enough to be known about, as well as boarding tactics in general, it might lead to the use of scrap metal anti-boarding spikes along the hull ala Mad Max
>>
>>28276299
not Madagascar...
>>
>>28277982
Nah, the chinese continue to use massive slave labor in the third world war, which is the big one that forced us to take military restrictions off of Japan and Germany. Russia becomes bros with the west as well, however at the cost of their influence over the baltics and soviet bloc. Basically, Russia is not that significant globally anymore.

But yeah, we lift military restrictions on Japan and they essentially go "YUO WAN SHIP? WE MAKE YUO BIIIIIG SHIP FO BIG AMELICAN PRANES!" And they make this chimera monstrosity that serves no purpose in a future with power armor, androids and vtol aircraft, so we just kind of gently tell them to chill while the rest of us just gape chinas ass.

Due to nuclear non proliferation and the slow destruction of state power over the centuries, no one uses nukes, we just lose a ton of resources, degrading the U.S. even further.

The Japanese consider the Nanking Express to be a great achievment of the wars boom in engineering innovation. the rest of the world just thinks it's a cool looking, bloody big ship.

Which one is this? Is it on the webcomic?
>>
the capability to produce semi automatic firearms, even bolt or pump action firearms would be severely limited, and if it goes overboard it would be gone forever.

maybe for the rank and file minions you would see alot of break action single shot firearms. single and double barrels of all types, the higher ups and leaders having the old or newly engineered and valuable revolvers, and semi autos, sharpshooters earning bolt actions.

that way you still have a little swashbuckler ascetic, have a few pistols in their belts and a boarding hatchet with a spiked poll to hook onto stuff.
>>
>>28278014

Its the +100 arc with Alan Moore writing.

There's actually a lot less rape in it the most arcs...relatively speaking.

Which made my penis very sad.
>>
>>28278244
that would work too, whichever would be easiest to manufacture
>>
>>28278319
i would think single shot break actions would be easiest to make.
>>
>>28277774
I don't think a bolt action would work as well considering you'll be moving pretty fast. A single shot from a rifle wouldn't do much. Give the pilot and automatic weapon if its possible or make some sort of explosive harpoon launcher.

>>28274530
In terms of the ships, read "Six Galleons for the King of Spain." This will tell you a lot about some of the older outfitting of military ships (1600s I think). If you want it to be believable you need to study the world around the weapons too.

Fiddling around with my apocalypse scenario to see what you think. Essentially, the global financial system collapses and everyone hits each others critical infrastructure (power grid, for example) with cyber attacks. In paranoia, sea borders are shut down and global trade quickly grinds to a halt.

The story takes place about a century into this dark age where the US has splintered dozens of separate nations, which are typically some form of junta or neofeudal governance.

I was kinda thinking of writing about a kingdom on the Gulf Coast getting into a fight in the Gulf of Mexico with a Mexican pirate kingdom.

I like the idea of a feudal society like ancient japan but with operators in power armor. Imagine an ambush against pirates:
Vast swarms of PT boats with RPGs, machine guns, recoiless rifles and grapplung hooks pursuing a seemingly unarmed unescorted supertanker

Then the tanker does the unimaginable, instead of fleeing the ship turns broadside.

Imagine 3 rows of hatches opening like an ancient man-o-war getting ready to fire a broadside.

But instead of muzzle loaded cannon protruding from each hatch is a GAU 30mm minigun.

The captain gives the order "bosun, you may fire when ready"

Bosun: "MAIN GUNS READY!"
The crews response echoes throughout the ship: "AYE SIR!"
"SEND THE DIRTY SPICKS TO DAVEY JONES LOCKER BOYS, FIRE!!!!"

a bone powdering reverberating throbbing hum that can be heard for miles cuts loose as dozens of 30mm miniguns connected to a literal cargo container ship full of ammo unleash hell.

Almost solid waves of fire pour forth utterly devastating the enemy pirate fleet.

Men dissolve into explosions of red mist, entire missile frigates seemingly disentigrate under the onslaught, the sea appears to be boiling and frothing red as millions of rounds impact it.

Within 60 seconds the fire ceases and the boiling waters calm. There is no evidence that a mexican pirate flotilla ever existed, except for the kilometers wide slick of blood slowly dissapating.

Coincidentally the fishing harvest in the gulf that season was particularly profitable. Experts suspect some influx of nutients into the ecosystem bolstered fish populations that year.......
