>Growing industry where I get to meet alot of cool people. Different clients and sites keep things decently interesting. Cant complain much since the leadership and scheduling is great. If your not prior LEO or mil it is probably a good idea to take as many outside certifications as you can, as well as state and local licensing if it applies to companies in your area.

Examples of firms that provide cannabis security in Colorado:

Unless your working within the city limits of places like Denver, Boulder, Colorado Springs ect, you most of the time do not need to hold a guard card. Whatever company you apply for will inform you whether or no you need one for the sites you work. I work almost exclusively grows located in rural areas of Pueblo County, no licensing needed but I still got myself licensed in Colorado Springs in case work pops up there. Examples of guard card applications:

>>28233943
No not necessarily, the firm I work for only hires vets but only maybe 60% have any combat experience. What alot of the companies I listed go for is someone with an honorable discharge who has a MED badge and can pass a background check. The guy I work with alot was in the navy, something with comms. The firm does its own company range days though and we usually have the prior sf/marsoc guys lead classes.

It is rather terrible working as a Flight Instructor to get to the Airlines, and then it's usually a pay reduction until you get moved up in the ranks.

Thankfully, I already have a contract waiting that'd put me ahead of everyone else while I fly to build my time.

Oh, and it's /k/ related because pilots can carry a firearm if they go through a certain program.

Spend a few yrs as an apprentice. Learning plumbing code for the state. Go take a test and pass it, become a journey man plumber. After more time and more studying, you go take more tests and go up to master plumber. I didn't get that rank for eleven yrs.

First time was in Cali about 17 yrs ago. Some one try to steal my work truck at knife point. Seeing as I was on the other side of the cab, I had time to draw my revolver at the time, scare him off.

2nd time was about four yrs ago. Went and did an estimate. He liked it and told me yeah, scheduled a start date. Once we actually got into it, we found a lot of problems. He got pissed and told me no deal, when I told him I can't do the job if that is the case. He told me I'm not going any where until I do the job, do it for the original price. Well when my apprentice try to leave right after he said that. As he try to walk by the customer. Guy grabbed him slammed him onto the ground. So I pulled my side arm out for more fear of my apprentice life. Got the fuck out and called the police.

I manufacture and sell plastic firearms parts for magazine capacity limitation. Although it sounds bad at first, we help people behind enemy lines get mags and firearms they wouldn't be able to get otherwise, and the capacity limitation is completely removable, replaceable, and reversible without damage to the mag.

We buy the machines used from auction and reconciliation them ourselves.
Next addition on the way is a Bridgeport 800

As for cost, are you asking on running costs or purchase prices for the machines?

Future prospects? Amazing the 600 ton press has a casting bathe that allows us to use original pannels from cars to reverse manufacture.
We're on with numerous lines now, products that are off the market so we become the only supply.
2cv body pannels, series 1 land rover bodies, mk1 escort outer bodywork etc.

Copyright and patent laws mean that here in the Britbongistan car manufacturers must keep part stock for 10 years and this machine is perfect for low volume (sub 300) part runs of shallow body panels that are smaller than 1.8x 1.3m

>>
>>28234195
Really the machines vary wildly all of them run on 3 phase and we've got a 500 amp line running into the site for most and a diesel generator for running the press, the new Bridgeport is around 11k, surface grinder was only a few hundred and is great for engine and wheel shim grinding.
The press is insured for around £800k we bought it at scrap value and have reconned it over the last 4 years.

When you've been around machines this long you kinda have to get interested, currently on with building a sttering box as I tap this in on the phone

Right now I'm a first term Construction and Maintenance Electrical Apprentice, making $15 an hour (I'm also in the IBEW, so that's before benefits and the pension plan are factored in), once I get my journeyman's licence that will be around $45 an hour. It's a pretty good job; decent hours, the work is interesting, the overtime situation on my current site is awesome. The highest level of education I completed is a 2 year college diploma, so I'm very fortunate to have a job where I'll make enough money to support a family and have decent hours as well; jobs like this are disappearing.

I enjoy the balance between manual labor and problem solving. It's great to plan something out and then go about building it while solving any issues that may come up.

I live in Canada, so right now I'm thinking of buying a magwell adapter for my SKS that would legally let me load 10 round 7.62x39 XCR pistol magazines. The last round bolt hold open still works, you can still load with stripper clips, and the adapter also makes the magazines detachable, so that's a bonus. On the other hand, the damn things cost $200, and it's hard justify spending that on an SKS.

I'm also thinking of buying an O/U shotgun for the occasional round of trap. I think a Stoeger Condor Competition is probably my best bet; I'm not planning on shooting trap that often so I don't need one of the B-grade shotguns.

Did you post in the other thread this seems so framiliar? Anyway, the very high end sector, doing things like PSD for big name firms is extremly competitive and already flooded with guys that have either extensive military backgrounds (group guys, ect) or have hade 10+ years to get contracting experience and make contacts. Its not impossible to break in but I honestly wouldnt bet on it. Now getting a job at a place like allied barton in security isnt that hard at all but it doesnt pay anything close to private contracting for a big firm. The private sector for the cannabis industry is definitely growing though.

Contractors have literally misbilled over thousands of hours. Dyncorp in particular is a serious offender of not only our financial sensibilities, but our do not fuck little boys sensibilities. Not only that, but the track record of misbehaving PMCs with no one to answer to in Iraq was simply awful. Combine that with the fact that the second in command of the Bush administration literally sat on the board of the company he awarded billions in contracts to, you might be able to understand why we don't like PMCs.

I've got a medical background and an EMT-B license for my state, but I got out of that because I can't stand civilian pre-hospital. I guess I got spoiled by the way the military does shit, so switching over was painful for me.
I'm just working retail to pay the bills right now, but I'm looking for another job while I do that so I can make enough money to pay bills and do night classes at a tech school.
Unfortunately, it's hard to find anything outside of retail when you have little to no civilian job experience. Turns out people don't hire vets because we have little to no experience in actual jobs.

Welder. I'd rather be in an office or doing something more administrative, but for now I can tolerate shitty outdoor manual labor since the money is good and the flexibility is awesome. $42 hourly plus overtime, gross yearly income depends entirely on how much I want to work. The past couple years I've been working around 4 months so I've only been averaging 50-60k, but now it's time to buy an acreage so I'll have to buckle down and work as much as possible.

Not /k/ related at all, though.

/k/ontractor here, I'm not a fan of how DynCorp does business either. I have my own grievances with them, they hire way too many under-qualified and non-professional people for many of the jobs and try to justify it by stacking their supervisor and management teams with over-qualified people. At least, this has been my experience working with them so far. It's also frustrating because they don't want supervisors to actually go hands on most of the time, and prefer we just observe even when it's exceedingly clear the people they've hired to do these jobs don't have capacity to do their jobs adequately on their own.

It has always been the family trade ever since grandpappy left Poland. Ever since a young age I've always done what is smart and responsible instead of what I wanted. I was really good at drawing instead of art class in high school I went into drafting (old school and computer) all that talent is retarded and undeveloped. I went to tech college instead of the military at the behest of my parents. I make more money than anyone my age I have owned a house since 19 and I am thoroughly miserable. I piss away at least 250 dollars at the bar every week. Long and short of it is I don't get anything out of my labor, I make a piece of metal and numbers show up in my account.

I'm still torn between being a Civil Engineer or just straight land surveying.

I would like to work for a good firm in a good location where i can be out doors and sometimes be in the office/shop. I'm also considering specializing in photogrammatry. I feel like drones are going to start to play a big part in surveying, so maybe getting licensed in that would help too.

You need to be part of something bigger than just you, it sounds like you are very isolated and have a job that conflicts with your personality. This is all speculation so correct me if I am wrong. I did restaurant management for a year and decided it was time to leave when I felt like killing myself everyday so I can see where you are coming from with jobs conflicting with self interest or even your personality.
If you have enough money saved you should look at cutting back on your hours and seeing what's out there, see if you can find something that you can carry some of your skills over to with maybe a new business or even a small shop that specializes or wants to specialize in something you have an interest in.

Welder here, it's a useful trade to know, and has the potential to be highly lucrative so long as you're ok with traveling. I wouldn't think of it a career move (especially if you have an academic background), but it's a great fallback because lots of things are made of metal, and that metal always needs joining. The scope of the trade is huge, anything from aerospace, to petrochemical, to commercial and automotive. And good field welders are always in demand, since we are not yet at the point where it can be automated.

Hey, it's almost ubiquitous in our society. I was brought up thinking that the only way to succeed was to go to university and get a bachelor's at minimum. I ended up dropping out halfway through an econ degree, not because it was difficult, but because I had no real motivation to continue. Not to mention that the median salary for someone with a mere BA in econ is like 50-60k. Worked a few years doing odd jobs, including getting into and then quitting the French Foreign Legion, and then did some research about the regional job market and decided to try welding, since the demand for welders was extraordinarily high and the pay was amazing for the level of schooling required (6 months total in Alberta, all paid-for through the union and government grants).

Like I mentioned, I don't plan on making a career of it like some of the miserable old-timers. But it's a good safety net if anything happens with my future career moves.

In retrospect, it would have been nice if someone told me to look at the job market first, before deciding on a specific field in post-secondary. Most students out of high-school know of only a tiny fraction of the possible jobs that exist, and then end up regretting the time they wasted. If I had started welding right out of high school, I'd already have a house and decent chunk of land. Valuable lesson learned, though.

Asked him why the hell he would leave a career of tracking Florida panthers to join army with the hopes of being SF. His response with a shit eating grin: "The combat beard."

I feel like im in the same boat you were in. I'm roughly 3/4ths the way through my university and I hate every second of it. Not because its hard (its actually stupid easy) but I just don't have the motivation to do it anymore. Tired of writing papers, paying thousands, and taking tests for what feels like little to zero return on my investment. And my expected salary once out of college is even lower than what you expected in yours. Paretns gave me two choices after high school, which was join the military (couldn't get in because of medical), or college. So I was stuck going to college.

Really hate desk work and want a hands on job. I just don't know what I'm good at yet. And everything I enjoy doing I can't exactly turn into a job because theres no profit to be made.

>>
>>28241179
Neither of those things is true, though. Unions neither steal from their employers (since employment is a voluntary contract), nor do they use violence (anymore, back in the day both the unions and employers did that bullshit) as a means of bargaining.

The solution to any problem you might have with unions is deregulation, because it is through government regulation that both sides end up pushing the market away from its natural equilibrium.
>>
>>28241179
Not stealing its just driving a hard bargain.
>>
>>28241238
fuck off m8 and take your communist leanins with you
this is the land of freedom

But if I'm being serious and not memeing, it is hilarious to me that libertarians think that through deregulation, unions will disappear. Unions are a logical progression of freedom of association. By creating a monopoly (or close to it) on workers in different fields, they create a more equitable balance of power between the employer and employee. Strong unionization is likely the only way worker's rights would be respected in a deregulated market.

I actually prefer older linux systems, that said new ones arent that bad either. Just have to work out whatever the syntax is on each different distro since every cunt OS devoloper decides their flavour should be slightly different in some meaningless way. Just like some flavours wont let you login to root and you have to su root. Or some decide you should never run as root so you have to sudo su root.

Better then Windows GUI bullshit as far as mantaining servers go.
>>
>>28241275
>think that through deregulation, unions will disappear
We don't think this. It is the expected result in simplified economic models, but as we all know, simplified models merely approximate reality.

In a deregulated market, it is likely that union activity in general will decrease in the long run, due to the lowering of barriers to entry into the market (and consequently, an increase in competition).

While it is true that in negotiations between employer and individual employee, the balance of power is typically one-sided, this scales with skill level and specific labor demand. A master architect will be more able to negotiate his terms of employ than a buger flipper.

Unions are certainly an effective tool in quickly improving employment conditions, relative to waiting for natural market forces to spread out through the economy. But the flip side is that monopolization of labor, and especially the popular trend of demanding increased wages without a corresponding increase in productivity, results in inflation and higher rates of unemployment. So union members get a higher wage, in exchange for another person being out of work as his employer was unable to keep afloat with the higher average wage rate.

I work for a union, but I don't have any illusions about its effect on the economy. The system is the way it is, so I might as well make money while the going is good.

Stop working with customers or food and work is a warehouse. Right off the bar you could make 10-12$/hr. Learn how to use a forklift and 12 will be standard.

Fuck customer service, join manufacturing Like A Man!

It is literally pseudoscience. Still, could be worse, we could also use dowsing rods for bomb and drug detection like Thailand, Mexico, and Iraq.

Park the car from Jan-Summer if you can, and move to a state without inspections. Minnesota doesn't have them and we have a lot of great software companies with a pretty low cost of living unless you're in some Gucci luxury apartment in Minneapolis.

I always see people with jobs like these where they basically do fucking nothing and just spend their time doing what they want until something pops up.

I am mad jelly at people with these types of jobs
>>

Here ya go:
>Be me, /tg/k/ guy in college
>Buddy is in my friend group
>Buddies dad is former colonel or something
>Buddies' dad says "hey what are you doing over break?"
>"Probably working for my dad (contractor- residential construction)".
>"Want a job?"
>"Sure."

So at $10 an hour I do Wide Area Airborne Surveillance. Essentially what we do is survey a fuck-huge area (no exact details, lets just say its a big area) and record what is happening, or follow it live. The idea goes like this:

>Lamar leaves home and robs a gas station
>Lamar goes home
>We watch Lamar go from home, gas station, then home again
>Police go get Lamar.

Border patrol stuff is also pretty handy. Work in Juarez got interesting (my training was literally tracking a cop-killer through Juarez and identifying drug houses).

It's an interesting capability, but easy to abuse. However for your comfort:

>We cannot see who you are
>We cannot see what color you are
>We cannot easily tell what color a car is at times depending on shadows and light
>Fuck picking out people in a crowd, its like picking a bee out a colony

I agree it is questionable, but hey I am doing it as a temporary break thing, and the pay is decent for overtime when we have to move stuff over to help out a police department or whatever.

18/h is bragging to you?
I make 16/h at my horrible boring desk security job. I sit here all goddamn day lurking /k/ and dreaming about better jobs. I used to be healthy and in shape. Now I am paunchy, and more importantly, have HORRIBLE back and hip pain.
18/h is not bragging. Just sharing interesting info. Let the fucking faggot making six figures for "travel writing" brag. I will straight up gouge the eyes out of that motherfucker if I ever meet one...

Pic related. It's my chair. One third of my FUCKING LIFE occurs in this pile of shit.

>Recently moved some undisclosed type armoured and soft skins to a SF base so they can trial them.
>Move a shit load of consumer goods.
>Occasional combination FULL of ammunition.
>Occasional bang trucks.

Life is good, looking to move up in the hierarchy in a few months.

Issued by the last company I worked for it just says security officer, pretty common with many firms. Nothing special but I just have it displayed just in case, we had an incident where someone called the police on or guys since they saw us walking around armed at night and when the police came it was a fiasco. I also have another badge I display for the MED

What the shit? Dude, every colorado firm I've looked at has a 100% no-use policy, on or off the job.
>>
>>28246478
Almost everyone at the firm uses THC and CBD in some way, many regular users. Firm owners are also outspoken advocates for vets to use cannabis. It may have something to do with everyone being vets, also being a small firm and not a place like allied barton. The firm treats it the same way most buissness do in CO and same as alcohol. Don't do it before a shift or on site. I don't know anyone that goes to a site that smokes a good 8 hours before since if something happened and they had traces in their system that would be their ass. Our site managers just treat us like adults and expect us to act professional.

Goddamn bro, find a marriott or hilton, our night auditors start at just under $13/hr, that's with no experience.

Junior Sous Chef here, get paid around 40k/yr. If I don't get at least 6% on my next raise I'm finding another hotel though. some days I'm doing 3 people's jobs and I definitely feel underpaid.

Current history major who's been thinking about the realities of my major here, what would be a better alternative? I know people say STEM stuff but I'm beyond shitty at basically everything to do with STEM to the point where I needed tutoring to pass 101-level math courses. The only assurance I have is that I know several people who have gotten well-paying jobs with a history degree, but it usually has little to do with history.

Air traffic control is interesting to work in.

We have fucking excellent documentation on most gear and most of the guys I work with are great.

Its the sort of enviroment where you dont want to fuck up though. But if you do fuck up you have to own it, making a human mistake is recongised as happening to everyone and whilst you might not get a payrise that year its better then the alternatives if you get caught covering something up.

Always have to think about that worst case scenerio of fucking up in a way that causes or contributes to a midair that kills 500 or more people.

The pressure doesnt bother me that much though, some guys dont seem to be able to handle it that well. One of the guys is really starting to crack and will have to leave pretty soon if he doesnt get his shit sorted.

In your opinion, how far off is the complete (or almost complete) automation of ATC?
>>
>>28244105
Warehouse jobs near me don't fit my school schedule already checked.
>>
>>28250441
Decades.

We have working short term conflict detection but havent even got long term conflict detection working yet. The data seems simple on the surface and it is relatively easy to process for humans but from a computer perspective the solutions are very very expensive in terms of processing and memory.

We are going to move towards more data link comms with aircraft first anyway so ATC can just issue an altitude to an aircraft with no verbal comms required.

It will happen eventually more or less though I believe you will see some ATCs still working for emergency situations where the system is lapsing or a situation has developed beyond what the system will handle. This is just for the enroute and terminal area centres btw.

Control towers are far more fluid enviroments and will need people there until you have strong AI which is no one knows how far off.
>>
>>28244505
Nope, pilot plus Cessna plus cameras are waaay cheaper and you don't have as many bureaucratic hurdles via FAA. It's a boring flight though, just doing doughnuts in the sky for hours on end.
>>
What are some relatively lesser known jobs which involve handling (and using) guns?
>>
Field Technician in process automation industry (mostly power plants, chemical and pulp/paper mfgrs also). Work on the control systems that allow operators to control plant equipment. Repairs, upgrades, new installs, etc.

$60k salary, usually make an addt'l $5000 bonus and overtime

Have an associate of applied science degree, automation technology. So it's a fitting job and I really like it. Get to work with lots of cool equipment. Downsides are sometimes have to travel, and if equipment goes down can get called on emergency service and have to work long hours until it's fixed. But usually it's standard 8-5 work.

I felt kind of shitty going to community college when all of my friends were going to 4yr schools. But now I'm making good money and have no school debt. Can't say the same for many of the friends with BA/BS degrees.

The main thing I worry about is the 2yr degree holding me back from moving up, and I think that is the case somewhat. But it also seems like many companies will overlook the degree if you have lots of experience and are a solid employee.
