I'm staying at a nice hotel downtown, so hopefully it's not too Congolese.
>>
>>15273057
Life long Chicagoan here.
Just don't be an idiot and walk around with your phone/wallet/camera hanging out while in crowded places and you'll be fine. If you take the CTA don't use your phone while near the doors to avoid people snatching it, brown line is probably the safest train at least from downtown to Belmont-ish.
>>
>>15272979
Yep, that was me. It was a choice of either Toronto or NYC, and the Toronto drive was shorter. It's a shame no events ever come here.
>>15271637
Yeah, I wish they would change up Len's songs.

Hilarious that you have to watch out for the local wildlife like that.

Have you ever considered not living in chiraq?
>>
Has anyone else been reading articles/reviews about the show and getting a strange mix of happy and sad?
It's bittersweet. I'm happy these people liked it but I just want to see it again so badly
>>
>>15273548
What do you mean?
>>
>>15273548
We all want to see it again but the important thing is to be happy you got to see at all instead of being sad you won't see it again.
Just think, humanity is thousands of years old and will likely be around thousands of years from now, but we were born at just the right time to see Hatsune Miku live in concert. How incredible is that?

Here's one someone linked last thread: https://www.eparisextra.com/columns/108584/miku-expo-dallas-2016-i-paid-to-see-a-hologram-sing-and-dance-and-it-was-phenomenal

In a lot of these recent articles you see the author is intrigued by the fact that there's a concert featuring an anime hologram, and they end up having a ton of fun. I think it says something about these concerts that some of the people going have absolutely no idea what the hell brought them there in the first place, and then when it ends they just have a huge grin.
It's interesting to read about these people who are "converted" so to speak.

Watching some of the video clips of the concert again simultaneously gets my hyped and teary-eyed at the same time.

This was my first Miku concert to attend and I can just really feel the magic. It's hard for me to explain. I can not wait to go again.

>>15273562
I feel you mate. We live in truly interesting times.
But I'm thinking of flying to NYC to do it all over again.
>>
>>15273585
Ah, I thought you missed out on this year and were upset reading the articles. My bad.
>>
>>15272979
>>15273456
So wow, then that makes at least three of us now.

I also made it to the Toronto show, great time. Going again next week to NYC
>>
>>15273593
I actually almost didn't go. It was the middle of the week and I was really not sure what to expect.

I mean, I have lots of Miku merchandise and a game, but I had never really listened to much of her music. I just thought she was super cute and interesting in a technology way (I'm really big into IT).
I guess you can say that I was very intimidated or scared of the thought of going to such a silly sounding concert. I am so glad that I went, even if I missed the opening act and didn't get the chance to do the drawing event or get any merch.

Sorry for gushing so much, this just ended up blowing me away. Thanks for reading my blog.
>>
>>15273585
>This was my first Miku concert
I certainly don't speak for everyone, but for me, seeing her for the first time was nothing short of magical. It was such a powerful experience and I'm not proud to admit it but I actually cried. Seeing her for the second time was still amazing but it wasn't the same. If I could go a third time, I absolutely would, but I don't think anything can match that "first time" feeling, so I don't think you're missing out on as much as you think you are.
>>
>>15273601
I thought about it, but it's just too far away. I wish I could go to NYC.

I went to NY in 2014, Toronto in 2016, and what I've learned is that getting centred seats is the most important aspect of enjoying these concerts. I bought my ticket the minute general sales went online and still wound up getting sidelined because I wanted to be closer. Lesson learned.

Can't wait for Toronto 2018 though.

I feel you. I was just so overcome with emotion whenever I stepped in there and everyone felt so together. I've been to several other concerts before but nothing comes close to this. Literally no one. The people who got there before me had formed a little circle and were playing Project Diva and stuff, and then after me arrived two dads bringing their daughters. Actually I think one dad went with his daughter and the other one was forced, but they also immediately paired off and started talking about dad shit.
But it's fine. When I drink alone, I prefer to be by myself.

Depends on whether it's a knee-jerk reaction or they give it a chance.

Most Westerners will think Miku's voice is too high-pitched, because of recent trends in popular music that they have internalized through familiarity.

I'd like to go to a Miku concert eventually, but I Rin, Kaito and sometimes Luka. I know the concerts mostly center around Miku but how many songs do the others get apposed to her?

And how are Miku Expo? Are they just a yearly thing? I've seen pictures some anons have posted in thread and want to visit one.

Well I forgot the list for this year's show but in 2014 Miku of course had several songs, Rin and Len had a couple, one duet with Rin and Miku, only one for Meiko (Boo, she needs more), one for Kaito and two for Luka.

Also it's not a yearly thing unless you're in Japan, so far NYC and LA's shows have been two years apart but if this year does well hopefully it'll be a little more frequent.

EDIT: misspelled show as shoe...
>>
>>15276474
This year's setlist had 27 songs; 1 Kaito, 1 Meiko, 1 Len, 1 Rin, 1 Rin/Len duet, 1 Luka. And 2 Miku/Luka duets if that counts. Basically, there's a really good reason it's "Miku Expo" and not "Vocaloid Expo".
Miku Expo by itself is so far a yearly thing with NA shows in 2014 and 2016, but there have been numerous other live performances for her dating all the way back to 2009, usually exclusive to Japan/SEA. "Miku Expo" is, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, the name of her touring shows, instead of single-location performances like Magical Mirai and anime cons.
>>
>>15276310
An older model Subaru Impreza. It's the base model for one of Japan's premier rally cars, and it manages to be sporty in performance while still looking inconspicuous.

Not going into the city with it though. I only ever take the train in. Less hassle, cheaper/free parking.

desu, no I have not. Always wanted to, but have no friends that share my interests and don't want to go alone.
is this a thing? why the lack of hygiene? why all the smelly?
>>
>>15277164
Weebs generally don't congregate, therefore no one tells them they smell, therefore they don't shower as often.

The problem compounds itself with standing in line in the heat for six hours, then getting nervous and crammed into a venue along a large number of other people.

Honestly I was a little relieved when the concert was over, because it meant I wouldn't have to hang around smelly transvestites anymore.
>>
I was there in Dallas, and there was no up-welling stench from "thousands of basement-dwellers". There was like one guy in my vicinity who smelled, and he was visibly sweaty.

Miku Expo didn't seem out of line with my other concert experiences with respect to hygiene or B.O.
>>
>>15277249
By contrast I've been to a few pretty ill-smelling Magic tournaments. The problem with tournaments and conventions is largely the number of attendees who sleep in their cars or otherwise bum around rather than getting a room.
>>
I was fearing the BO issue going into Houston, but Houston had a different issue. It smelled like buttery popcorn everywhere which was kind of bad since I didn't have a chance to eat much before heading out. Even Anamanaguchi's frontman pointed it out in the middle of their set.

Has anyone heard any word on a bluray release for the 2016 expo?

The 2014 expo advertised it in the pamphlet you got at the show.

I just haven't heard anything and it worries me, because from a setlist and technology perspective the 2016 show kicks all the ass.

I only worry because I know that some retailers didn't sell out of the 2014 bluray until late 2015. It might not be seen as lucrative enough to justify a new one.

They always release a Bluray. Besides, I think they will do a compilation for all of the cities on the tour. (either as concert footage or as bonus interview footage).

If June passes without any news, then you should worry.

Get fucked europe. Not enough people showed up for the miku opera a few years ago, you had your chance to prove there was a demand in Europe and yet they blew it. Shameful.

I don't care about your opinion of the show, but regardless, you have to show your support even if you didn't like it.
>>
>>15281889
>you have to like things even if you don't like them

I get the point you are trying to make, but you can't dispute that Europe got fucked hard on miku concerts.

Maybe the interest will pick up if miku gets an Arabic module.
>>
>>15281889
>Not enough people showed up for the miku opera a few years ago

Fuck, not only that. I also heard that some people just walked out in the middle of the show.
>>
>>15281889
>you have to show your support even if you didn't like it.
It's not that I'm trying to change the subject, because I like shitting on Europe as much Merkel does, but I've been wondering recently what is the most efficient way to support Miku?
I feel like the initial answer most people would have is "buy the merch" but I still wonder what to buy to get the most part of my dollar to her. I used to be really big in the figure scene, but I felt like most of my money would be going to the distributor, the manufacturer, the artist, the sculptor, etc with very little, if any, making its way back to Crypton.
So for the past 3 years, I've been stuck with the Project Diva games (even though I don't have a Vita or PS3 to play the f series) and live event DVDs, and of course now the concert and official merch from the show.
Is there something else I should be buying to line Miku's pockets and help keep her around for longer?

Yes I know, poor wording on my part but you understand what I'm saying. I know Europe gets fucked over, I get quite happy over that. I'm having a bet with a fellow miku fag that Miku will go to South America over Europe. I think I'll be happy when I get to cash in on my bet.

>>15281942
That's cruel. Imagine if Itoh or anyone from CFM went to one of the showings only to see people walk out. That would be depressing to see. Probably wouldn't want to come back if there was poor ticket sales as well.

>>15282087
The best way to show support is to actually buy the music. In terms of importance, digital downloads on the Karen-T label > CD's by a company [Exit tunes, etc], > Doujin CD's

The reason I say that is because a long time ago when Mikubook was a thing, I remember there was an official announcement claiming that they tracked the sales of overseas digital downloads and they found that over 50% came from out of Japan. If you really want to convince CFM, buy some music. (Most importantly music from the CFM label, Karen-T)

>>
>>15282216
If only it wasn't so much itunes.
I got it. Next time Itoh comes to North America, I'll track him down and just give him an envelope with like $1000 in it. Can't get more efficient than that. I wonder if he'd take it.

I think it's because it's MikuExpo season, honestly. It sure brings in more posts, at a very fast pace moreso than before, but many of them have brought off topic blogshit, /pol/shit, 3DPD posts and a concentration of fans who only have listened to Cryptonloids plus Gumi and IA at best and only Miku at worst and then write every other Vocaloid off.

I know the majority of Vocaloid fans have only listened to those mentioned above, but if you look at some of those fans, their ignorance truly shows when they haven't even tried to listen to other Vocaloids (without being spoonfed of course) and then have the indecency to make silly assumptions and edgy commentary in spite of all of this.

It's the same thing with producers. Because so many "top hits" producers are retiring, debuting professionally, or even worse, make music exclusively with utaites, people think "Vocaloid is dying" and "the sky is falling" because they don't even bother supporting underrated, lesser known, local or newer talent out there.

This kind of mentality has been around everywhere btw, not just here. It's highly contagious.

Everyone has their own reasons for liking a Vocaloid.
Plus you're being reasonable, I don't think you were one of the previous hostile anons.
>>
>your favourite Vocaloid isn't some unheard of Chinese subtype therefore you're a cancer on the franchise

Seriously, we need to have a pitchfork for Vocaloid so all the hipsters can go such each others dicks somewhere else.

It's perfectly fine not to like or even care about lesser known Vocaloid, and on the flip side, you aren't a better fan because you know a producer that only two other people have ever heard of because he only works with Latin gumi or some shit.
>>
>>15286896
>tfw can't suck my own hipster dick
>>
>>15286767
But other vocaloids you're ignoring like Luka, Kagamines, Gumi and Yukari are also consistently good, have lots of good producers and very popular songs. It's *okay* to like a few vocaloids more than others, I'd say it's to be expected really. It's just annoying when everyone has to think their favorite vocaloids are "better" just because they like them more.
>>
>>15286470
>Huurrr you HAVE to like all the Vocaloids no matter what.

Man piss off, I don't like KAITO cause his voice annoys me then I don't like KAITO period. Everyone has a right to an opinion so deal with it.

Honestly I wish there were more famous tunes for Luka and Meiko as they're horribly overshadowed by Miku but Miku is the flagship voicebank of Crypton and both Luka and Meiko's voices can really be only used for very specific types of music.

tl:dr: Don't like MY opinion, too fucking bad.

This. What the hell is going on with this place.

>>15286767
>I'd say you have that backwards, friend. Miku and IA are consistently good, unlike the others.
Are you 16 or what. Dumbest thing I've read today.
>>
Miku, Luka, Rin, Len, miki, Lily, GUMI, Yukari, IA, Mayu, Lapis, Iroha. Those are the vocaloid I all love and listen to regularly (some more so than others). I'm not exactly a fan of other male Vocaloids but I still end up listening to Kaito and Gakupo at times if artists I like have made songs with them that aren't half bad (otetsu comes to mind as an example). SeeU sounds good but I'm not really into Korean; Chinese-wise I've yet to listen to that Yukari clone.

UTAU-wise, Yufu, Tei, Arisu and Momo are my favorite. Teito and Ritsu can sound pretty good depending on who uses them. When it comes to UTAU I usually go with artists rather than random songs, the UTAU fandom is a bit cancerous for lack of better words but there are some really talented artists out there. My favorite being きの (嘆きのP) (who's also a Yukari user).

I've seen the word "hipster" dropped around here and I don't even know how to begin explaining how retarded it is. Because some of us aren't constantly talking about concerts (who are 99% Miku and 99% Youtube popular-tier songs) and playing the games over and over again we're hipsters? How incredibly short-minded is this. I get it people don't like feeling unsecured or insulted about what they like but I swear this place is oddly closed-minded. I haven't visited in years and yet I've seen many folks over VO with much more varied taste than the average /jp/ user. It's as if all you people cared about was to fap your Crypton dakimura all while listening to The World is Mine on repeat all day - in other words more attracted by Miku as an idol than the music itself; which wouldn't be surprising considering how autistic /jp/ is about those.

There are hundreds and hundreds of really interesting artists out there, for your own sake burst your bubble and seek them.

engloid concert when?

Anyone going to Chicago concert know when merch is going on sale?

I'm in agreement.

Iroha, Lily, Yufu and Momo are wonderful. And otetsu is great, whenever someone mentions vocarock or needs suggestion I point to him.

Yeah I also agree that the bar set for vocaloid hipsters is set really low when project Diva, miku expo and vocaloid weekly rankings are just the tip of the iceberg.

Well that's the thing with Vocaloid. Initially it was just marketing virtual idols when nowadays it is so much more than that. I usually try to talk about the music and producers with others mainly and the other aspects are less of a priority to me.

VOCAMERICA is going to be the first to introduce a modern Engloid projection concert. I would want to continue talking about this under spoilers as it can easily piss off other fans whether it be that they think dumb stuff such as all engloids being bad, or are irrelevant or have beef with Dex and Daina's voicers, seeing as Daina's voicer is the one organizing it. I have already seen the beef beforehand in public social media or forums js. So far, I find the mmd models being used great and the project being transparent, but I am still concerned if the money being crowdfunded and invested is going to be enough, seeing as the budget is more on the lower side. I am still iffy on why they are going to use UTAUs also seeing as it is blatant self promotion, but I guess it's expected. Hope we can also see other engloids being incorporated with the stretch goals. http://www.vocaloidnews.net/vocamerica-kickstarter-stretch-goals-announced1/

Damn I'll gladly miss guchi for merch but wish they had a pre-sale. Don't want to fight the way to my seat. I'm betting people will move closer even though it's assigned seating.

How does it not sound like Miku
>>
I'm nervous. This is going to be my first MikuExpo ever and I'm flying in from another continent. I really hope I don't fuck up or misplace anything.
At least it helps that I've been to New York before, but still, I've barely slept.
I hope the stress is worth it.
>>
>>15290298
I took a 13 hour bus from TO to NYC in 2014 with some good mates, got an airb&b and all that. it was a fucking blast. if you're going alone then I can understand your being nervous. try to meet some people there, locals or even anons.

Doing the same thing. It's going to be a 10 or 11 hour flight and getting airbnb. All pre-checked in. Going to see friends hopefully if they don't bail.
>>15290497
I'm not going to be alone during the dj event or concert, but I'm the only one going from my location because it's so far. I hate traveling alone in general is what I mean.

No one is calling others hipsters because they like other vocaloids or UTAU. People are being called hipsters because they go
>hurr durr all the casuals in this thread who only know the Cryptonloids
In fact, most of the regulars in these threads do listen to other stuff, a lot of them actually buy albums shipped from Japan and stalk niconico for the latest uploads. It's just dumb to complain during Miku Expo season that most of the discussion is on the Crytponloids, doing so just makes you sound pretentious.
>>
>>15290901
The complaints aren't because of the cryptonloids discussion though. They are the most discussed even when Miku expo is not on. Read this whole thread again. It's because of shit like "Hurr durr I only like Miku shes my waifu why do other vocaloids even exist"

>It's because of shit like "Hurr durr I only like Miku shes my waifu why do other vocaloids even exist"
I've literally never seen that, and I've been in these threads for quite some time.

Worse I've seen is something along the lines of "I don't want to branch out/I only want to listen to Miku" or something.

First gen tech adoption is never a good idea. Always wait until the second iteration comes out, after the bugs and features have been fixed.
>>
>>15291311
That's what's holding me back, more or less.

I don't want to get a Vive just so that, in a year or two, the cheaper and better one is released.

No it's the golden rule, they wanna scream and yell crapping over other people's opinion's calling them cancer and whatnot they'll get the same treatment back. They can't debate properly they can go be dicks somewhere else.
