Why would anyone even give a shit if some Touhou fangame is being released in english, it's not like it matters

Maybe it would be neat to see it on a console or something but if it's on PC there's no reason to even bother

No idea what that has to do with my post but it seems to me that the only people who would care about this are /v/ crossies

If it does well, other Touhou games might be licensed.
For better or worse.

It's just a case of misunderstanding probably. I also thought it was going to be a new game at first sigh but it turns out it's just a translation of a fangame, like who cares.

>it seems to me that the only people who would care about this are /v/ crossies

I agree, why would you want something like touhou on steam? it will only attract the wrong kind of people and make the fanbase even more terrible.
>>

I was really scared till I realized it's just some secondary fangame shit.

you know he is the one that allowed fangames on sony systems in the first place. Pretty sure he had to give his ok for this as well.

Wasn't this about 2hu fangames coming to the west via steam/ps4 announced last year?

I'm happy, this could help un-decline 2hu

>this could help un-decline 2hu

This could help finally kill it by introducing the Steam mainstream fags to it
>>
>>14817711
You're not far off about something bad happening.
It's a Nisa published game your PS4 will blow up the state.
>>
>>14817657
This game is terrible though. And the framerate on the PS4 version is atrocious.

It's already been available in English on Asia PSN.

Aside from getting a cute touhou theme, there's no real point unless you like watching MMD-quality 3d models fire lasers at each other at 15fps on a good day.

Truth!

We either need to support this game or we may have little chance of getting other translated Touhou titles in the future - hopefully something better.

Go back to /v/. People playing the games wouldn't ruin them, the kinds of people who use steam forcing their way into the subculture even more than they already have would ruin any discussion of the series

This. We already have it bad with basic weeaboos, now imagine the shitfest with the horrible steam community.

I get the worrying feeling you unironically believe that Touhou's success and massive fanbase didn't come from the fact that it is literally nothing but cute girls with funny hats.

You talk like someone that doesn't play the games, you know pretty damn well that that's just part of it. In my opinion most people get dragged by the music, be it the original work or a remix (more likely a remix). Of course, obnoxious waifufags are way more vocal, and of course there are combinations of both.

Permissive licensing rules, challenging games and an open, expansive fantasy world for Japanese hikkis and NEETs to lose themselves in and forget about reality. Girls help, but they're not close to being the whole reason unless you're some kind of secondary.

Oh sure, there are a lot of other factors, but 2hu would be niche as fuck if its cast weren't a bunch of cute girls. The only way it could have even been close is if it were a bunch of shotas instead, but that's just the same thing flipped gender-wise.

Scout - Aya's tokin hat
Soldier - Meiling's cap
Pyro - Utsuho's Yatagarasu chest eye
Demoman - Suika's Ibuki gourd
Heavy - Cirno's wings
Engie - Nitori's backpack
Medic - Eirin's nurse cap
Sniper - Reisen's bunny ears and tail
Spy - Mamizou's leaf

Yes, I have thought this over.

>>
>>14818323
The same applies to almost every other popular Japanese franchise, they won't buy into anything without a bunch of girls in it. But it has more in it to separate it from the thousands of other games and shows with almost all-girl casts
>>
>>14818323
>2hu would be niche as fuck if its cast weren't a bunch of cute girls

Less popular? Of course, without weeaboos getting dragged on to the series by some sparkling artwork of sanae flashing her panties we'll surelly have much less secondarias and quite a few less players.

Niche as fuck? No, as i already said, a lot of people get dragged by the music and the actual aspects of the gameplay mechanics. A lot of people just stick to the games and a hella lot of people just stick to the music.
>>
>>14818339
These are Otaku we're talking about here. They are the ones who propelled Touhou into one of the biggest Japanese nerd franchises. You think all those guys drawing 2hu porn and ecchi played the games? Shmups are a niche genre even in Japan. There are plenty of Japanese secondaries. Just look at all the people who keep drawing Marisa with blue eyes even though they've been yellow in every fucking game.
>>
>>14818352
there's a reason kancolle is even bigger these days, after all
>>
>>14818352
Uh, i don't know why you think that with "secondaries" i was only reffering to the western fanbase. Of course i'm reffering to them in general, as i already said (and you said), japan propelled all those things you mentioned like porn and ecchi stuff and obviously the western people that like that kind of things get dragged to it because basically all that content is aimed at them.
However, my point is that not everyone that gets into touhou gets into it because they like japanese drawings. I know a few people that were actually afraid of getting into touhou because it looked like some kind of cashgrab weeaboo game (a la kancolle) but ended up getting into it because they really liked the music. They even liked the games after trying them out.

I'm not denying that the all girl cast and the waifu factor is a big part of the popularity, but saying that without those touhou would have fallen into obscurity is dumb.

God the game looks fucking shit.
The part with Sanae and Youmu has the most glaring gameplay design mistake. Both bullets are light blue. Watching the mess while trying to dodge it is impossible.

I still don't get why people that make competitive Touhou fangames don't just copy PoFV's layout. Why does it always have to circle arenas where you can move freely around eachother?

Secondaries might still actually be into the Touhou mythos or music or doujinshi or anything other than the games. Even secondaries can get pretty into it. Steambros, on the other hand, just play anything that looks remotely anime-esque. The same shitters who like Hunie Pop or whatever it's called and play all-ages eroge because the extent of their weebry is limited to gay ass memes and what is available on steam.
>>
Nothing like trying to take advantage of the western Touhou fanbase by making an asian release only.
Not to mention this is already on PC, so I can hardly picture anyone but maybe die-hard Aya fans buying it.

Don't worry jeeps, there's very little chance for 2hu to go truly mainstream in the West.
I know this because I'm in contact with dozens of weebs of all kinds everyday, and I don't know any other primaries other than me. I exposed many to it through the fighting games and the upcoming card game, but the number of people who changed from "doesn't know shit about 2hu/has seen some of the characters a few times" to "is playing the games or reading official literature" has been 0.
If the games got released on Steam, you WOULD inevitably see some more people from the West getting into the series, but don't think that there'd be a flood to propel it to the same heights it's in Japan. And as much as I hate the idea, having youtube e-celebs or whatever they are called these days make videos about 2hu would have little discernible effect. Think about it: in order to talk about anything more than the small bits and pieces of information you get in each game, you need to read. A lot. And you have to keep all that shit in mind. Pretty much no one would bother.

Most of the games are SHMUPs, and SHMUP is a niche genre as it has already been said. We will also definitely see some more Western-produced fangames in the future, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The card game is excellent for example. And even though they'll be produced in the West, they'll mainly stay within the bounds of the fandom.
So yeah, don't worry.
