Well that is another way to look at it, I guess. For me I think we should take it easy and figure out the things first before jumping into any action, hence I've never tried 2-5 before I know my fleet can handle it consistently instead of getting taiha'd most of the time.
From his post you can see he is a bit too eager on training his ships while pondering little into other aspect.
Since the winter event is coming, I think your reasoning is more suitable for him than mine. Though I want to state that if I were him, I will skip this event (maybe do the first few maps which new players are completely capable of doing) and focus more on resources gathering to prepare for the next event.

That's a good stopping point for now, since the event is soon.
You need to level your DDs. Heavy ships like BB and CV can take care of themselves if they're max modernized in armour/fp but DDs need the evasion.
You also need Sendai asap. Either you wait to get her through sub crafting for dailies and sparkling on 1-1 (you are sending 6 sparkled ship expedition 5 to maximize your single exp fleet right?) or you go all in and spam min craft and spam 1-1 with your DDs.

Put the ship you want to sparkle as flag, put 1 or 2 lvl 1 fodder with nothing equipped as meatshields, sortie 3 times to 1-1. You don't need to resupply the meatshields. If they get damaged, swap them out because flagship protection only activates if they're not damaged (and to avoid sinking them like a kuso). Scrap or modernize away the meatshields.
If the flag ship isn't getting MVP on both fights, add more damage/go to yasen/ reduce # of meatshields.

Oh yeah, 1-5 is an option if you're lower HQ level for sparkling and it gives more exp too. You'd only need 2 runs instead of 3 for 1-1or 1 run if you go to boss.
