Well, some people here are anal enough to disqualify 90% of what is played at the big denpa events like Denpa Hakkyun and Denpa Song Daisensou as "denpa song". This kind of disagrees with how the term is used in Japan today. Cue endless definition wars.

Oldfags like me have no problem with a broader definition, since I can see a clear lineage from some of this stuff back to the 80's and the Nagom Records/Captain Records era and acts like Zin-Say!, Karate Bakabon, Minca Panopica and so on. And even back then there was a division between the more deranged stuff (Kinniku Shoujotai etc.) and the "moepop" stuff (Kidorikko etc.).

I have no idea if DS or whoever does group orders anymore, but generally the more popular albums (like the ones I have) tend to be resold on either tora no ana, melonbooks, amazon japan etc. This time around, I had a friend who went to comiket and bought them for me.

If you are considering the proxy route, you can use proxy services like Goody Japan(cheapest I know so far), and tenso. Though I have tried to get stuff from melonbooks via tenso, and apparently melonbooks does not "ship international" even if it means its going to a proxy seller within japan. I simply tried a lesser known proxy, and I ended up getting the item from melonbooks anyway.

For Amazon japan, just make an account (yes,a seperate amazon account just for amazon japan). The website has an english option if you can't into moonspeak. I think you can pick up nanahira's candy time on amazon japan, but keep in mind not all items are shippable to the states.

Check a circle's websites (twitter, soundcloud etc) and see if they have a store. If its Iosys stuff, I just e-mail them directly. They understand english, and accept paypal for purchases.

There's an oversaturation of a very specific kind of "denpa" style that's been getting more and more popular over the past couple years.

I mean I like nanahira as much as the next guy, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't getting tired of seeing her everywhere along with the typical wink-wink nod-nod hyper moepop+popular EDM thing that everyone keeps doing.

I haven't seriously listened to denpa in maybe a year now. When I do I keep returning to the same core artists, like momoi or mosaic or a bit of ARM. I think that's where I really understand what trudenpafags keep arguing about with regards to what "denpa" means. On some level it really is a "feeling" to the music. That weird spacey feeling, like being suspended or something despite all the energy and zaniness happening. Or maybe that weird nostalgic feeling for old, forgotten eroge music that really isn't good on any technical level but is really touching despite (or perhaps because of) that.

Anyway, forgive me for blogposting. I've just been what you're going through and so I recommend you listen to the classics and maybe try to rediscover them. Denpa is not so much a sound as it is an idea and feeling. I think a lot of recent artists are forgetting this and just trying to make it as "crazy-cutesy" sounding as possible. It comes off as a little shallow and generic.
>>
There's so much here I don't even know where to start. Thank you, /jp/!
>>
>>14586420
>I think a lot of recent artists are forgetting this and just trying to make it as "crazy-cutesy" sounding as possible. It comes off as a little shallow and generic.
Honestly this is such a common occurrence for anything that becomes popular enough that I'm surprised it hasn't happened to denpa sooner.

I've only been listening to it for a little over a year now, so I don't know if some of you are more experienced with it and would argue that it's already happened years ago or not.
But I've easily downloaded more denpa music than probably all the music I've ever owned of any genre, and I still don't really get that feeling of artists "selling out" or producing generic content nearly as much as I would get with other music genres.
So even if it's losing sight of itself, am I wrong to be impressed with how well it's held up?

But then again, maybe a lot of that has to do with it not technically being a genre of its own and so over the years things would only get labelled "denpa" by the fans?
Maybe the real issue then is that artists are starting to think they can label their own music as "denpa" rather than letting it just be a decision from the listeners. Maybe there was never supposed to be "denpa albums".
>>
I can't tell what differentiates, say, nanahira from mosaic. They both sound like moepop to me.
>>
>>14586598
There's not going to be much "selling out" with denpa since it's destined to stay niche by its very nature.

Trudenpa has always been pretty small. A lot of particularly sugary moedenpa has been released recently, which lends to the perception that the scene is being taken over by it.

Toromi is still releasing albums, so I'm satisfied.

It's been happening to denpa for years now, but "denpa" as a thing hasn't been a "thing" for all that long. It's comes out of anime and eroge and doujin music that just happened to be "denpa" in feel and/or theme.

To clarify it's not like nanahira is "selling out" or anything, she's just commanding what I feel to be a disproportionate share of the music scene because of its increase in popularity which is largely relegated to a very specific, very accessible moepop styling. She's not the first and she's not the last to do this and I don't hate her at all for doing it. I quite like her music. Rather, I'm just wary of how the door is now open for certain artists to hop on it. Some treat it like some kind of gimmick. Like this "wow so cute" ironic lolicon EDM styling (I'm looking at you teamdmp). Like, I get it, it sounds like some kind of Skrillex-esque dubstep but now with cute lolivoices, great. Or super "brutal" metal with lolivoices, original. Some artists would do the odd song or two in that contrasting style for effect, that's fine. Some artists think it's a good idea to make that their entire sound. Feels like beating a dead horse. Slap on a moe-loli-holding-candy cover, label it "denpa," and people will buy it regardless, I guess.

>So even if it's losing sight of itself, am I wrong to be impressed with how well it's held up?
I don't really think it's losing sight of itself. It's just hit a point of popularity where some people are trying to milk it a bit. The core players are still doing their thing like they always have. If there's a thing to parallel it to maybe it's like how some 2hu artists jumped to kancolle, or how so many people get into that shit cause it's hilarious internet memes and sexy cosplay, but don't really care about the lore or games or anything.

Eventually, the people who aren't in it for the long run will leave, and the disingenuous players will jump to whatever's the popular thing. But I know for a fact there are some really consistent artists making the music they've always been making that just happened to be labeled "denpa" now, so yeah, like I said, try to discover or rediscover or something.

>Maybe there was never supposed to be "denpa albums".
I get the impression that a lot of old "denpa" artists rarely called their music "denpa." It's stuff like "moesong" or "akiba-pop" or "akiba-kei" or anison stylings or whatever. I know ARM calls his stuff denpa now, but he probably wasn't making that with intent at the start. I would say it was never intended, least of all to be a genre, it just happened. And so when people are intentionally making "denpa" as a genre they're probably missing the point somewhat and why some people aren't feeling it anymore.
>>
>>14586613
Plenty of mosaic songs aren't "moe" themed. They call themselves "akiba-pop." So moe plays a big role, sure, but there's other stuff in there too like super-robot stories, computers, space stuff, battle music, otaku-centric skits, whatever. In general, it seems mosaic is much more varied and nuanced than nanahira's stuff in both production and thematic content. They've been doing it longer too, so they have more music under their belt.
>>
>>14586791
Sure, not quite all of their stuff is moemoe, but the majority has the same feeling as any other moepop artist.

>but the majority has the same feeling as any other moepop artist
I guess that's just where our opinions differ, then. Mosaic continues to hit a sweet spot for me with all of their material that most moepop artists simply don't. It's not just being energetic and "moe" and over-the-top and occasionally weird. It's just "electric" somehow. "Akiba-pop" is probably the most apt description of what they make.

As for the thematic content and stuff. It's clearly more broad. Aside from some of the moe-themed songs, I'm not sure where you feel the similarity. Mosaic sounds quite different from something like Maple Sugar or ave;new or nanahira, all of which I would categorize as denpa-kei moepop with varying degrees of "denpa"-ness.

Not that this matters much to me, but I think you're doing yourself and others a disservice by limiting 10 years of mosaic music to "moepop," the current taboo-term for denpa people don't like in these threads.

What were your favorite denpa/moe-pop songs/albums from 2015?

Still haven't gone through all my stuff but I enjoyed:

I have never seen it discussed, what equalisers settings do you use for optimal denpa settings? There's a lot of shit going on in some denpa songs, I'm sure you can ear some subtilies better with certain settings.
>>

I never understood having different equalizer settings for different types of music. I get compensating for crappy speakers/headphones, but that shouldn't have anything to do with the genre.

How are either of these denpa? They both sound like J-pop, and the lyrics aren't denpa in any way.
>>
>>14622511
The first one is from a denpa album, but I agree it's probably the less denpa-ish song of the album, it's more on the moepop side. Still far from jpop though, close your eyes and listen to every subtle sound and how all the different melodies blend together, with the soothing nayuta voice, this isn't the kind of stuff you could ever on the radio. You should check out the album, it has some pretty dank denpa tracks, like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnF1ZGkTxrk

I can't hear anything denpa in the second one however, it's pretty much jpop-rock.
>>
>>14622636
Well, I'll agree with you that it isn't something you'd find on the radio.

Also the song you posted isn't very convincing. To me it sounds like a bunch of random noise without any hook. It's not bad but it's a song that's easy to forget considering there's no part that really sticks with you when you first listen to it. I'll still check it out because the vocalist has a cute voice.
>>
>>14622725
What do you listen to? True denpa songs are generally complex and unorthodox enough that they take many listens before you remember them. The current thread is to have these characteristics but with catchy, cute and simple vocals, that's how I like to define moe-denpa.
>>
>>14622784
Aside from the obvious classic staple denpa songs, usually these kinds of songs.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nn7eIfhqf3g
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gffnSxEiLBc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jahaiwg7Xuc

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11FmFZ1fdz8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTo4k75JGdc

For me lyrics and theme in general are a huge part in denpa. Some people who don't understand and will write off any song as moe-pop, J-pop, J-rock, etc. For example, the last one, Kimi wa nan Terabyte, is a good example. It's not as out there composition-wise, but the lyrics and message of the song are still very much denpa.

What do you consider true denpa songs?
>>
>>14622886
I think artists like Toromi, Millirobo.beta and some older ARM songs would be the most "true denpa". Everything you linked are moe songs, but I'd still consider them dempa, especially mosaic.wav. And I don't agree that the last track is not "as out there composition wise", it's as much denpa as any other mosaic.wav songs.

What I'd consider really moe-pop and barely denpa is most of Nanahira's tracks and twinkle for exemple.
>>
>>14623063
Onmyouji and Chikansha Thomas aren't moe denpa though.

And I always see people list Toromi as an example of real denpa, but all the stuff I've listened to her sound more like moe denpa to me except for maybe one song. I don't know where to draw the line between real denpa and moe denpa. All I know that newer moe pop stuff like chiimu and Nanahira is not considered "real" denpa.
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRUZq_iAuvg

The truest denpa song there is, posting it again incase there are new people here who don't know about it.
>>
>>14623325
I don't think there's a "truest" denpa song, because there are so many different characteristics that can make a song denpa.
>>
>>14623325
It was so obvious no one bothered to post it.

320 CBR is for dick suckers to be fair
>>
>>14628376
There is absolutely nothing wrong with 320k.
>>
>>14628404
The only difference 320k has with V0 is that 320k is constant bitrate and conserves silence and useless data. It's literally just a waste of space. CBR was useful when VBR wasn't well developed years ago and algorithms and codecs weren't very good with it, but nowadays VBR is the sanest and most efficient option. Newer algorithms don't even feature CBR anymore.
>>

Every thread
Its always the same fucking 320k vs v0 argument.

And then that one random idiot who can't hear 192k
>>
>>14628404
except it takes up A fuckton of space
>>
>>14628423
It's 2016, you can get a terabyte of space for less than $50. 100mb for a typical album encoded at 320 CBR is practically nothing.
>>
>>14628449
Some of us listen to music on portable devices such as cellphones and are too lazy to encode to mp3 from flac before transfering. I have a 64gb micro SD card and it's filling up quickly so I try to only have FLAC for albums I listen to a lot.
>>

You can still get that with "variable bitrate" when encoding the file. Seems to work good with M4A files, maybe mp3 too but I'm not sure.

File on the left is flac at 41M and on the right is m4a with variable bitrate at only 8M.
That saves quite a good amount of disk space, still gives you the full range of frequencies, and you really can't tell the difference.

Personally I've had a mixed experience with the download as zip option on Mega. Sometimes on an initial download it would show up corrupted when I decompressed. Second or third time is turns out fine. Thanks for the suggestion. I may just keep doing it as is since I do these requests ala carte anyway.

Compared to waha my collection isn't anywhere near as big, but if theres something people want from this like lossless or scans I can give it a go. On another note, are the people running RtL and denpa song keeping up with uploads anymore? I've only bothered to check recently and I see that there hasn't been activity in both as far as uploads are concerned. I can't blame them. I think it would be difficult to keep up considering the denpa threads only gain activity around events.

FYI this particular single was only 1 song, and i believe they burnt it at home or something since it was just a Cd-r stamped with the cover picture. Also it was 300 yen. This could have easily been a 100 yen download but such is life. Personally I would have wanted an instrumental, but perhaps they were cutting it close with this single as well. I also kind of miss those depa-raji segements they did on their older albums.

Despite my collection containing the fairly popular circles, I am open to new artists. That crossfade that >>14581621 was pretty cute, I 'd listen to more of their stuff if they made it easier to obtain. How do some of the anon here obtain these more obscure singles/albums? Pretty much everything in that last picture I posted are via proxy buyers that I direct to tora no ana, melonbooks, akibaoo. Do you contact them directly, or do you ready access to proxy buyers that go to events for you?

I don't know about catching the anime, but I do like Technoboys Pulcraft Green-Fund. I really dig this opening. They also worked on the Witchcraft Works ED, all the Trinity Seven EDs, and more recently the Sakurako ED. All I think are pretty good.

Apparently the real attraction at the Odenpa Studio table was getting kabe-don'ed by Hiroty himself.

Yo, I'm looking for a song and normally I'd be able to search the archive but that seems to be down.

Anyways, all I remember is that it was an ARM song and it was sung by a girl singing about being a shinigami? Maybe even a failed shinigami? And she screams a lot during it.
I think the video was also taken from some rhythm game, possibly beatmania.

It was out of stock on Tora no Ana when I was looking for it too, ended up finding it in stock on a shop called Akibaoo

Oh of course, I feel dumb now since I actually typed Akibaoo into one of my previous comments. Even the toromi album is there. Guess I'll browse a bit.

Bookmarking for later. I'm going to assume this individual is only on hiatus during non event times? Also what is your experience with using this service?
>>
>>14646182
Could you upload the one to the right of Deucholic?

Been using it for years.

This is for example c88 stuff everyone ordered from him

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CM_ceNvVAAAZ6zZ.jpg:large

he gets tons of orders so be prepared to wait for your package 1-2 months.

He is on hiatus usually after event until to next event, because he gets too many orders. he will order used surugaya CDs for you though while on hiatus if ever needed

Are there any bands similar to namakopuri's harder songs? I cant get enough of how namakopuri's trap and such drill into my skull.

It's a pleasantly overwhelming sensation.

Here you go anon. Don't let the file size fool you, these songs don't go longer than 2 minutes each. This was certainly an interesting album I picked up. https://mega.nz/#!UxdkyRCa!QIZfxJdCXvMbcV_PaKm7DJpNxMwq2uo-R2o7tYk1aoY

I'll give it a shot at some point. I think the next major event is spring M3, so perhaps I'll test it with an album.

>>14649909
Frankly I've never heard of this group until now, though after I quick search I certainly find their style entertaining. I don't know of another circle/group that does their style specifically. If its trap with cute vocals you are looking for, try the bass categories in previous comiket/m3/reitaisai spreadsheets. I know かめりあ has done similar stuff, though I wouldn't be able to name a song. I'd certainly want to know.

would you mind uploading the one in the first column, very bottom, and third column very bottom please?

I'm curious if anyone would be interested in buying my (very slightly) used denpa CDs, I probably have around 200 of them.
>>
>>14658343
I might, though I probably can't swing a reasonable price for the lot and I don't know if you'd want to bother with selling them piecemeal.
>>
>>14658343
I would for a few key artists. Unfortunately, I'm broke right now.
