why are 80s idols so much more better than modern ones?

The live performances are so much more fun to watch.

the management had full control over everything they did, even privately. management totally molded every part if their image even if it wasn't true. a lot of the idol marriages were arranged by management. todays idols are on too loose of a leash (mostly because of the recent laws concerning under age management).
>>
>>14368287
Generally speaking, yes. It really looked like they'd take over the world after all, not trough war but by their sheer economic might. People in America and elsewhere even started learning Japanese because it was "the language of the future" just like people say about Mandarin now.

Of course. Bubble economy, rising salaries, decadent parties, funny technical gadets, stagnating economy in Europe and USA who looked up to the unbeatable Japanese companies, Japan-bashing, everyone thought the next century is going to be the Japanese century. Well as a European I'm glad that Europe recoverd, though (okay it went downhill since the Euro-crisis).
>>
>>14373941
>(okay it went downhill since the Euro-crisis)
Funningly, as a fellow european I can confirm that since the introduction of the Euro as in currency and unity the entire sturcture is falling apart.
America is not doing really well either!
Asia may very well rise again soon. Probably not China as they seem to struggle at times aswell today... you never know.

Ontopic: I love the 80's and japanese 80's aswell! In my head I am still stuck in the past I guess.
>>
>>14374096
America is doing just fine, well the areas around DC, the only ones that matter
>>
>>14368287
Everything was better in the 80's.
>>
I get the feeling it was filled with the relentless optimism that defined the 50's here in the US (and a lesser extent the 90's) with the sky as the limit and the Japanese machine marching on with no end in sight.
All things end, eventually.

You can look up titles on Japanese Wikipedia by browsing singles by year, eg, 1985:

https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:1985%E5%B9%B4%E3%81%AE%E3%82%B7%E3%83%B3%E3%82%B0%E3%83%AB

They also have albums by year.

Then for specific songs just use a search engine. Not just Nico or Youtube or so on, but there seem to be music sites from countries like Vietnam that host these songs at least for a while.

Yes. The 80s were undoubtedly an almost magical time for Japan. That atmosphere is present in most media from that time too, that's why it's so good.
>>
>>14380067
Do you have a Jpopsuki account? There's 4 or 5 fantastic City Pop collages on there, taken from a book I think. Check those out for sure.
>>
Check this out.
Yamaha apparently released a vinyl record in Detroit for the Yamaha President’s Secretary. Electric funk with a taste of the future found in the 80’s nearly a decade later after the record’s production.

Found this on the East coast. I'm blown away by this record. I have one more record I bought thats from the 70's.
>>
Anyone know her? I took one listen to her first track and it was exactly what I was looking for. I do like a little more enka in ny 70's idols but this album seems to be a little more up beat than getting into the japanese folk Blues rythems that was going on during the 70's.

>>14383745
No, hasn't been for over a decade now. Whole city is getting gentrified and its suburbs have always been wealthy.
>>
>>14386507
Well, I have not done any digging around on this album at all yet. If you look closely at my picture there is pretty specfic text below the main artist's image.

I'm thinking that I bought this as an incomplete set.

The corrner at the top on one saide says "session2". This was probably a 2 set album release in one package.

Double records and bonus tracks or extras have always been the only way for music to sell in Japan. I bought this from a store that is an expert in the east coast vintage technology feild and they bought it as it was.

The other record I posted Was missing its second record as well. Disapointing because its really a find of a life time, even in Japan. It still has its pin strip, good decail info extras, and the double sided single release mini record.

I can post more once I'm settled in back home posting video links. Worse comes to worse I will upload a high quality video audio recording of the album. Already have a tumbler and gb page for otaku culture going on. This is probably the kick in the butt I need to start its youtube branch up too.
>>
Doing some reseqrch on it. Bored out of my mind. Looks like someone out of germany is selling the entire Yamaha studio cd and vinyl collection. I might buy more of these Japanese releases. Yamaha definitly had a studio in L.A (not detroit) just because they friggin could. Maybe they wanted to get into the business a bit and fund artists they thought valuable. Seems legit to me if I had such a successful company already.

There isn't any wiki out there on the studio at the moment though. I'm trying to interview with Yamaha so its something I'm going to research. Subjects like these ussualky take a lot of phone calls until you land several interviews you historicly record from the people that were the ones there starting these branches.

I tried interviewing an American Hong Kong Chinese actress from the 70's, but she never replied to me. I'll try again.

there is a number of other sites I use to purchase my jpop from like disclegend.com and snowrecords.com.

lel that's my original file. Show-Ya is awesome. This is from the time before they went full metal:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZ8e1Vvqar4

I have this stubborn obsession with the 80s, regardless whether it's Japan or Western culture.

Cars, electronics, media, pop culture... everything followed the same schematics as today of trying to fulfil some idealised/romanticised mental construct which was simply based on the average human desires of wealth, well being and ultimately procreation. However, back then everything wasn't so incredibly artificial. You could be a dirt poor proletarian and still relate to idols, because there was still a recognisable human being underneath all the plastic. The separation of economic classes in the population is so big today, we're almost heading towards feudal times again.

Even though the average wealth has subjectively increased, we're so unhappy because our expectations are higher than ever from the constant comparisons to fabricated worlds we perceive as 'real' through the internet/marketing etc. Just look at the sick show people orchestrate on social media to receive some form of confirmation. Ah... shit, I feel like an old man typing this. Maybe I'm just one of those 'good old times' idiots.

Not only for Japan.
Both Music and Photography were, entirely objectively, from an artistic point of view of much higher quality.
I Intentionally do not say better, as this always goes down to personal taste. But the unmatched quality of these media from the 80's are undeniable.

Photography specifically, commercial or hobbiest, felt a lot more natural and sharp - filled with life. Today its all about special effects, faking and touch up. Let alone that digital photography is one of the cheapest investions I can think of. What a downgrade from those technologically and mechanically superior analog cameras.
Not to forget that getting your film/photos processed had its own special vibe.
Of course we still have those today for high end photography studios and those cameras are indeed great but still not quite what they used to be as they cater to a digital medium in the end anyway.

It does not end there, considering the bigger picture and the major trends/mainstream a lot of things were simply better. To many to write them all down.

Be thankful we have the internet, atleast today it is entirely possibly to live in the past, unlike a few decaded back.

Sorry, got carried away.

The best thing about dreaming of the distant paradise of the past, as opposed to a geographical place or the not too distant future, is that you don't have to worry about ever actually ending up there, and finding that it's a far cry form what you imagine it to be.

>>14464537
Most digital cameras go a bit into the IR spectrum, you can photograph the light from a remote control with them. Many bank notes have special IR-print on them that you can see this way.
>>
>>14464573
>and finding that it's a far cry form what you imagine it to be.
Generally I agree, but I am still not so sure.
Hell, the 80's were not perfect either in any way.
Every decade has its own problems. And without a doubt today a lot of things improved aswell.

I'd say it depends on the person and what everyone holds dear and values the most.
Personally I wouldn't want to have lived my prime in the early 70s for example.

Not to forget, the good things you only really start to appreciate once they are gone.

Current situation is really shitty on webs regarding this. Download while you can, alternativley; start sharing. Thats the best solution there is now.

I know I mentioned this in a previous post I made but I really recommend buying the music you like. I say this because alot of these artists you probably wont find downloads for. I personally prefer owning physical copies of my music. there are tons of japanese music records online for cheap at japanese auction houses. I don't know about you guys but owning a record and holding it in your hand feels great especially if you really like that artist (plus sometimes the cover art is really cool).

I really only use youtube to discover new artists and watch lives. you can still discover new artists elsewhere I use a number of sites to discover artists.

I'm not sure what you're talking about, but I got introduced to Yukiko through this list:

and that MEGA link from this blog that is down now:

I found 2 of her other albums here:

>What if people in the mid-80's realized what was going to happen

People did, but they were complete Cassandras.

Once you realize the bubble was designed off of raising value on the basis of NOTHING, it becomes a ticking time bomb. But people who are making mad dosh don't care about what'll happen 5 years from now, they care about now.

What's worse is THESE SAME PEOPLE were ignored during the bubble in the US before 2008 when they said, "you retards, this exact shit went down in Japan 20 years ago, did you forget what happened then?"

>Asia may very well rise again soon.

Nope, Japan is fucked. It's way too racist, xenophobic, isolationist and traditionalist.

Rapidly shrinking labour force, half a possible labour force (Women) are still basically treated as a fucking joke (I've read stories of female board members in major coporations still having to go around acting as office girls bringing coffee and snacks to employees), companies have an ultra-conservative non-adaptable culture, companies often run through traditionalist dynasty.

Honestly, if Japan wants to save it's economy, it will need to start increasing immigration rapidly, if I was Abe, I would be taking a lot of Syrian refugees and re-educating them (especially women).

South Korea is going to go down the same path as well due to the same reasons.

Most jobs that stand to be replaced are not jobs that have interactions with people as a primary concern. They're invisible to the average person. So instead of a skyscraper full of salary-men slaving away in anonymity it's computers doing that work. Nobody is going to replace the cute girl in the candystore ie. jobs the general population interacts with.

80s and 90s Japan did have I think the hottest fashion trends.

That 80s hair just works so well on Japanese girls, also they don't look like porcelain dolls like modern Japanese girls, they actually look like actual Asians.

Its why I think I also enjoy a lot of 90s and 80s female anime designs than modern anime designs as well.

People thought they were going to take over since they rose so fast in the 80s, so everything from japan that is good is from the 80s. animation too.
everyone in america in college was learning jap in the 80s.
