I have some questions for American anons here. These are just some odd things I've noticed in American media, so I'm intrigued to see how accurate it is. I'm not trying to make fun of anything, I'm genuinely curious.

Do Americans still circumcise new-born children? It's been proven that there are absolutely no real benefits to circumcision.

Do Americans really need lube to masturbate?

Do Americans really have to pledge allegiance to their flag every day at school?

Do Americans really need a "hall pass" to use the toilet in school? Are there really children called "hall monitors" who skip lessons and try to catch other students who are skipping class?

Are packed lunches really that uncommon at schools? Usually the only people who eat cafeteria food here are the ones who are poor and entitled to free school meals.

How frequently is the metric system used in schools? I'd imagine that maths and science classes would be forced to teach it but it seems that most Americans have a hard time converting between metric and imperial.

Do American schools really have "class presidents"? Is it really that big of a deal?

Do Americans really wear shoes in the house?

Do Americans really live in blocks of houses where the nearest shop is a 10 minute drive away?

Do Americans really clap in the cinema? Who are they applauding?

Do Americans really drink out of those red plastic cups?

Do Americans really go to a bar and just say "I'll have a beer"? Do they not specify the brand name?

Are Americans really not allowed to drink until they are 21, but they can buy a gun at 18?

Are there really some states where you're allowed to openly carry firearms, but you're forced to drink alcohol out of a brown paper bag?

Are mobility scooters for people who are too fat and lazy to walk common?

Oh nevermind, have fun in your thread by yourself.
>>
Does America really only have two political parties? Over here, we essentially only have two parties with a chance of getting a majority but we do have smaller parties that get some representation. Does America not even have this?

Why do so many Americans live in single-story houses? Only old people live in bungalows here.

Is it common for American parents to sit on the roof with their kids? It's something I've seen a fair few times on television.

Are Americans really allowed to throw rooftop parties on an apartment block they don't own?

Do American universities really force you to minor in a completely unrelated subject at degree level?

Do American universities really offer scholarships to stupid students who are good at American football?

Why does American football have so many advertisements and breaks?

What are fraternities and sororities? From what I can tell, you're just paying for friendship.

Are Americans really too fat and lazy to answer a few simple questions posted by a British man on 4chan?
>>
>>58102063
>Do Americans still circumcise new-born children? It's been proven that there are absolutely no real benefits to circumcision.
Yes
>Do Americans really need lube to masturbate?
Varies by person, usually just lonely NEET tears work well
>Do Americans really have to pledge allegiance to their flag every day at school?
Yes, participation is optional though.
>Do Americans really need a "hall pass" to use the toilet in school? Are there really children called "hall monitors" who skip lessons and try to catch other students who are skipping class?
Hall pass for bathrooms, yes. Hall monitors are hollywood
Are packed lunches really that uncommon at schools? Usually the only people who eat cafeteria food here are the ones who are poor and entitled to free school meals.
The majority buy lunch (shitty at that) at school
>>
>>58102063

>idk, think its decreasing

Maybe, and don't worry about it. That will answer all of your questions.
>>

>How frequently is the metric system used in schools? I'd imagine that maths and science classes would be forced to teach it but it seems that most Americans have a hard time converting between metric and imperial.
Only in science classes.
>Do American schools really have "class presidents"? Is it really that big of a deal?
Depends on the school, but most of the time. They hold practically no power, it's just a title.
>Do Americans really wear shoes in the house?
Depends again, my family personally doesn't
>Do Americans really live in blocks of houses where the nearest shop is a 10 minute drive away?
Yes. Most of the time there are little corner gas stations close by though. America varies significantly so I'm just speaking for my area
>Do Americans really clap in the cinema? Who are they applauding?
If it's good, a lot of losers do. Why do they do it? I don't know, its fucking dumb.
>Do Americans really drink out of those red plastic cups?
Fuck yeah, don't knock Red Solo Cups, they're great for parties and stuff.
>Do Americans really go to a bar and just say "I'll have a beer"? Do they not specify the brand name?
Mhmm. But the tender will inquire further. Mostly losers though
>Are Americans really not allowed to drink until they are 21, but they can buy a gun at 18?
Yes, and it's a very controversial topic over here. You can get drafted to die but can't drink alcohol
>Are there really some states where you're allowed to openly carry firearms, but you're forced to drink alcohol out of a brown paper bag?
Technically you can get nabbed for drinking out of the bag too, open container.
>Are mobility scooters for people who are too fat and lazy to walk common?
It's supposed to be for disabled people, but if someone is that fat, of course their lazy ass will ride one. Disgusting
>>
It's been decreasing for a few years and probably less than half of newborns now.

No. Meme.

Depends on the school, but kids can refuse.

There was when I was in school. Used so there aren't too many kids leaving the classroom at once.

No. School meals and vouchers are for poors here too.

Only in math and science class, but some things use them like liters of soda.

School president and they almost never do anything important.

Depends on the person.

Yes.

Only if it's a good, classic movie like one of the new star wars.

Yes. Easier to clean up than broken glass when people are drunk.

No. Bars have multiple beer brands.

Yes, but nobody pays attention to this.

Yes. Mine.

Not common, but they exist.

We have multiple parties but the smaller ones usually son't get over 1 percent of the vote.

Cheaper.

No. This is something suburban kids see in movies and copy it.

Yes, with the owner's permission.

No. You choose minor and major.

Yes. Football brings in money to the school

No clue. Probably ad money.

Drinking clubs that you try out for. Payment is for alcohol/housing/food.

Yes but not all.
>Do Americans really need lube to masturbate?
No
>Do Americans really have to pledge allegiance to their flag every day at school?
Have to? No but we usually do when we're younger.
>Do Americans really need a "hall pass" to use the toilet in school? Are there really children called "hall monitors" who skip lessons and try to catch other students who are skipping class?
Hall monitors are a thing in larger schools. The hall pass is for when class is in session otherwise you just go between classes.
>Are packed lunches really that uncommon at schools? Usually the only people who eat cafeteria food here are the ones who are poor and entitled to free school meals.
No my H.S. didn't even have hot lunches so we had to bring it from home except for the poor kids who got free food.

>>58102254

Not true. There was a hall monitor in middle and high school for me.

>Does America really only have two political parties? Over here, we essentially only have two parties with a chance of getting a majority but we do have smaller parties that get some representation. Does America not even have this?
If you aren't Republican or Democrat, you aren't getting voted in.
>Why do so many Americans live in single-story houses? Only old people live in bungalows here.
Cheap housing, but most houses have two floors. Raised ranches are very popular so I don't know where that assumption comes from.
>Is it common for American parents to sit on the roof with their kids? It's something I've seen a fair few times on television.
No, families don't do anything together but watch the latest show in the same room while eating "Chinese" food. The family unit has dissolved. Also, " Muh unsafe roofs"
>Are Americans really allowed to throw rooftop parties on an apartment block they don't own?
>Rooftop parties
Hollywood or rich/ popular people
>Do American universities really force you to minor in a completely unrelated subject at degree level?
Ye, but it can vary greatly, most minor in a related subject.
>Do American universities really offer scholarships to stupid students who are good at American football?
All sports. How much that scholarship pays is the variant.
>Why does American football have so many advertisements and breaks?
Because it's shit. We need to fall in love with rugby asap
>What are fraternities and sororities? From what I can tell, you're just paying for friendship.
Greek life. Similar minded people living together and partying. I don;t know much about it though.

Yes, but it's been on the decrease for some time now. Still predominate among blacks and even vaguely religious people.

I do lmao.

It's not required if you give a reason like it's against your belief system or whatever. Varies by state and school. Might get scolded if the teachers a prick.

Yes, though it's not universal and most people don't care.

I went to three different high schools before graduating and they typically served food like pizza or brand foods like Chik-Fil-A or Subway. If you're poor you will exclusively eat food there.

>>58102093
>frequently
It's taught but it's not what we use outside of the classroom. Everything is imperial.

They usually just represent student interests on minor issues. They aren't that important in reality but we like to make a big deal out of it because it reminds us of real elections.

Varies by region. In New England it's discouraged and in the South no one cares.

Do they? Yes. Is it predominate? Not at all. Quarter of the population lives in rural, a think a good third live in a city as well. The row houses aren't fashionable at the moment.

Sometimes, it's not universal. I'll clap if it envoked a strong reaction like a joke or something sad. Critics sometimes sit in the crowd and they'll base reviews off of the audience's reaction as well.

For partying, yes. It's quick to throw all the cups away instead of washing out a bunch of glasses. Though we're aware of the meme and some people do dress like college jocks and have red solo cups as a theme for a party. Other do it unironically.

If they're regulars at the bar. That's usually just Hollywood.

Varies by state, 21 for a lot of places.

Yep.

Not common whatsoever outside of Wal Mart and local fairs. Usually it's elderly people but fatties will use it. Hambeasts on the little carts are rare.

will continue

>brand foods like Chik-Fil-A or Subway

this is false
>>
>>58102063
1. Yes I would say a majority of us are circumcised. Girls here think its weird/gross if you aren't
2. No we don't need lube to wank at least I don't
3. From grades kindergarden-8 (ages 5-14) we said the pledge facing the flag at every morning assembly. When high school started the morning assemblies ceased and so did the pledge recitation. No one really thinks anything of it and no one really cares. People on /int/ usually get up in arms about it but its not like we are brainwashed half of the people never even say anything when they stand for the pledge.
4. We do have hall passes but they are just to make sure that you only have one person going to the bathroom at one time so two students don't just go and hang out in the bathroom and skip class. We don't have hall monitors at my school.
5. Its the same at my school. Everyone I know packs a lunch but you do see random kids you've never spoken to eating cafeteria food
6. Metric is only used beginning in high school science courses. Before then we just spend like a week every year doing metric conversions. No one knows metric and if you ask someone how far a distance is in metres no one will know.
6. We do have class presidents for every grade and they don't actually do anything besides attend student council meetings and help with fundraisers/other evnets
7. This is a meme. I would never wear shoes in my house except for when I'm leaving/entering but if I'm visiting a friends to hang out I might leave them on for a bit until I sit down on the couch or something
8. Some do, some don't. I live in a big city and I could never live like this but a lot of people do
9. No. This is a meme
10. I only drink from them at parties. Idk how it is in the UK but american highschool house parties can have as many as 100 people there and we aren't all going to drink out of glasses. Whenever I use them its for beer pong or if I'm mixing vodka with something
>>

>>

Basically. There's local parties like the Conservatives and Working Families in NY, and the Libertarian party and Greens occasionally buggers in. A lot of heavily Dem or heavily GOP areas will have members of their own party running against each other because of internal divides over issues such as guns, environmentalism or abortion.
Socialist Party is also a thing but its a meme in really liberal cities.

Most were built after WW2 for mass housing for returning veterans and their new war bride families. Quick and cheap and made in mass.

No. TV is TV. Most everything is done to advance a story, not portray culture.

see above

never went to college lmao

Yep. A lot of footballers are illiterate

That's when a lot of people are watching. Gametime ads can net billions.

Usually so you can connect with new people and not be an awkward loner I guess. Frat bros are a bit like Chavs, but friendly until you do something they don't like.

>>58102701

11. No this is a meme
12. This is true although I am under 21 and still drink because I have a fake I.d. that says I'm 21 that I use to buy alcohol. Lots of teens here have them
13. Yeah you can open carry in some places I never see it though. My city is unique in that there are no open container laws so here you don't need the paper bag
14. Only the trashiest of trash people have these and you only see them at Wal Mart
15. Yeah 2 parties that have any chance at being president
16. we have a lot of space so no need for upward urban expansion. I live in a 2 story house and all of my friends have 2-3 stories but one story isn't unheard of
17. No I've never seen this happen. People do go on the roofs of their house to chill sometimes though
18. no? what?
19. idk im still in high school
20. Yes if you are very, and I mean VERY good at football colleges will recruit you and bend over backwards to give you all kinds of scholarships and benefits. You may get one or two of these guys if your highschool is good at football
21. because ads make the nfl mad $$$
22. basically paying to live in a house with a bunch of dudes who usually binge drink every weekend and throw all kinds of parties.
Hopefully this answers all of your questions

Wait, being paid monthly doesn't happen in America? What do you get, weekly? I used to be paid weekly in teenage jobs but anything close to well paying or career like would be monthly.
>>
>>58103037
Some jobs pay you monthly, some pay you weekly.

If you have a job where you get tips then you can usually take them home daily. Although I've heard that a lot of places here pool all the tips together and share them equally amongst the staff. We don't really have the same tipping culture as you do in America since waiters are paid at least minimum wage and a service charge is usually included in the cost of the food.
>>
>>58103321
Bi-weekly is most common
>>
>>58103202
Yes, all schools have a uniform, but that is up to the school. In primary for me it was a blue jumper with the school badge, black trousers and shoes.

For secondary is was shoes, black trousers, a white shirt, maroon jumper (this could be removed if you were too hot) and a maroon blazer with the school badge on the left breast pocket as well as a tie in the school colours.

School was just school, we certainly didn't have those groups like you see on American TV (popular kids, athletes, nerds etc).

Speaking for myself parties were mostly house parties while we were under age/pubs where you knew the landlord.

A lot of people in the school would get a bottle of cheap cider and hang out at the nearest park on the weekend in large groups.

Once you turn 18 or at least look old enough to pass for 18 (I did once I turned 16), you tend to go out to clubs and pubs.

> do Americans still circumcize?
Yes. But it's not really for medical reasons as much as it is traditional at this point.

> pledge of allegiance
Some schools don't, but most do. Keep in mind no one requires you to participate. We had a British girl in my class who would stand just to humor us but then sit back down at the moment of silence.

> hall-passes
Depends on the school and on the teacher. And the only monitors at my school was assistant principals who were bored

> packed lunches
Still depends on the school and the state. When I lived in Texas, almost every one brought a lunch from home. But in Louisiana, almost no one did. It was also cheaper in Louisiana.

> metric system
Not nearly enough. Science classes is it, and if your am engineering student you're expected to be proficient in both... we REALLY need to drop the imperial system...

> class president
Only for student government. They help organize different events and the class president usually does a speech at graduation.. they really aren't important.

> wear shoes in doors
Usually yes, though in my house no. A lot of us live outdoor lifestyles, like my gf who lives on a farm. While I'm at her place its shoes on because at any moment I could get pulled outside to help with their chickens or whatever.

> block of houses...
Depends on the region. In Texas, yes. Because urban development was planned out. In Louisiana, no. Because urban development was more organic.

> clap at the cinema
Unless their making fun of something, no. If I saw anyone do that I might punch them or check to see of they have autism

> red solo cups
Nigga we wrote a song for those tons. They're great!

> Not specify the kind of beer
Only if they wanna make life harder for the bartender. If I say "I wanna beer" it's because I haven't determined which one I wanna try yet.

> drink at 21, buy gun at 18
Those are state laws, but yes. The fed government forced us to raise the age to 21 for drinking because drunk dr

>Are there really children called "hall monitors" who skip lessons and try to catch other students who are skipping class?

Not that I know of

>Are packed lunches really that uncommon at schools? Usually the only people who eat cafeteria food here are the ones who are poor and entitled to free school meals.

Packed lunches aren't uncommon, it's a matter of preference, and if you can't afford school lunch then their is assistance if you still don't want to bring a packed lunch.

All schools have uniforms. Some schools make you wear a shirt and tie, others just have a polo shirt.

School life is pretty standard. 5 hours of lessons, around 1 hour of break (usually split up into two sessions). Not really sure what else you want to know about school life.

House parties involve going around someone's house and drinking until you pass out. Sometimes people get laid there.

>>58103205
Not really, any "hate" towards them is just friendly banter.

No, although some parts of the country refer to dinner as "tea". Other parts refer to it as "supper".

Because chips aren't necessarily fried. So it's illogical to call them "fries". Also they were invented in Belgium, so it's illogical to call them "French".

No-one really talks like that. Only an extremely small percentage of Brits talk using Received Pronunciation/Queen's English. Most have regional accents.

> open carry but brown bag
Yes.

> fat scooters
I haven't seen many of them outside of Wal-Mart.

> two political parties
No. We have several, but only two that have power. first past the post makes third parties irrelevant

> single story houses
In the suburbs, maybe. But even then it depends on the region. In Texas a lot of houses are 2 story.

> sit on the roof
No.

> rooftop parties
They need permission from the landowner

> forced minor
No. Though they do make us take irrelevant courses to "well round" us

> athletic scholarships
Yes. A lot of us aren't happy about it either, though some do have decent arguments

> American football
Because commercialism... I'm the worse person to ask about this though because I hate American football for partly this reason. It's boring

> fraternities
It's more for networking (to find a job) and looking good on a resume. That's really the main draws to them.
>>

free period where you sit in a class and just do any work you need to do or otherwise just dick around on the computer
>>
>>58104131
>first past the post makes third parties irrelevant
We use FPTP too but there are still other parties that have seats in parliament (SNP, Lib Dems, UKIP, Green, etc.). They also all get reasonable media coverage, even if they have no real chance of getting a majority. From what I've seen, American media gives absolutely no media coverage to any party that aren't Democrats or Republicans.
>>
>>58104091
In my school I had one, but it was only because I took high school level classes in middle school and got involved with the engineering program (yes we had an engineering program at my school).

But I spent half of that time either going home or going to work
>>
Why is public intoxication illegal in the US? If you're going out in Germany, you'll see people with beer or harder stuff in their hands at every street corner.
>>
>>58104249
> In UK they get media coverage
Because you have an atleast somewhat proportional representation system. We don't. The most you get recognized for is as an independent, like Sanders.

>Why is public intoxication illegal in the US

I think it's just something to make public life a little nicer, so there aren't drunk assholes being assholes everywhere. If i had a choice i would do away with that law though, kinda bullshit to get arrested for having a few too many in my opinion.
>>
>>58104249
The Democratic party cover the entire left side of the political spectrum and the Republican party covers the right. The next most popular party in the Green party, but no one gives a shit about them because they are just democrats with a greater emphasis on nature or whatever. A Green candidate could easily run for the Democratic nomination and no one would care.
>>
>>58104304
> public intoxication is illegal
Because of "public decency" laws, which are kind of bullshit. But I don't think that's federal law because in New Orleans, LA you can carry an open container anywhere except for in your vehicle. But in Baton Rouge (about 60 mi up the river in the same state) it's illegal to have an open container.

And if you're not publicly intoxicated in New Orleans, we start wondering why you're not still drinking

>>
>>58104573
Center-right in the rest of the west is pretty much center-left in the US.
>>
>>58104573
Obama is left of center, Hillary does whatever is popular. Right now, that means being a feminist, saying that Mexicans are good, and generally keeping the blacks mollified.
>>
>>58104573
>Clinton and Obama centre-right
No. Obama is centre-left and Clinton is whatever her donors tell her to be.

Obama might SEEM centre-right to a brit, but it's hardly so. Right in America means traditionalist, militaristic, nationalist, evangelical, etc.

Obama is only militaristic. That's it.

I have literally never seen anyone get kicked out of the movies in my life, and i have gone 100's of times over 20 years and seen some ridiculous shit. I would be very surprised if i got booted out. Yes. But there's often a way out for people who are too shy.
>>
>>58103181
Sorry. It wasn't a student. It was some lady with a walkie talkie to communicate with the other lady who watched the front entrance. It was a closed campus so you weren't supposed to leave for lunch. But if you brought her back some food a couple times she "never saw you leave". Also for some strange reason the hall monitor rarely if ever patrolled the second floor. You would see the same kid walk by your classroom 5 times skipping class.

>shoes in house
depends on the context but I always take my shoes off in my own home

>blocks of houses
depends on your region, this happens out West apparently but I live and have lived in New York my entire life so idk. The suburbs I've lived in were always centered around a small town that didn't take long to get to at all, >5 minutes at the most

>Clap in cinema
yes they are applauding the work, like how you clap at a play

yes they are pretty great not going to lie

There are states where you can open carry (God bless them) though

it depends on how good they are, but for example Harvard would never accept someone who isn't smart no matter how good they are at football.

>Do Americans still circumcise new-born children? It's been proven that there are absolutely no real benefits to circumcision.

Yes, rates are something like 20-45% depending on which source I saw (low one was from HIV conference data, high one from wikipedia). Practice peaked in 80's due to AIDs scare among boomer's children

> lube to masturbate?

I use a latex glove and lotion for the realism but also sometimes just use the skin.

>Do Americans really have to pledge allegiance to their flag every day at school?

Yes, was done during the time students were arriving before classes

>Do Americans really need a "hall pass" to use the toilet in school? Are there really children called "hall monitors" who skip lessons and try to catch other students who are skipping class?

Yes. Hall monitors are not kids though, it's usually the 1-2 unarmed guards or janitors that will ask kids if they're skipping or going somewhere. Schools in bad neighborhoods have more security probably. I wandered the hallways during lunch pretending to always have somewhere to go because I had no friends and didn't want to get forced into the cafeteria to sit alone

>Are packed lunches really that uncommon at schools? Usually the only people who eat cafeteria food here are the ones who are poor and entitled to free school meals.

You could do either

> "class presidents"? Is it really that big of a deal?

I remember this, but don't know what it is. I think there's a student government which is basically just a bunch of pretend role-playing

>Do Americans really live in blocks of houses where the nearest shop is a 10 minute drive away?

.. only if they live in a suburb designed like that. The biggest sprawls are called Exurbs now, suburbs of suburbs

>Do Americans really wear shoes in the house?

Yes I can't seem to get my dad to stop doing this

> live in single-story houses?

Cheaper than 2-storey ones.

The rest involving parties or alcohol I can't answer because I'm not a normie
>>
>>58105711
> 1 story house cheaper than two story house

Depended on the property tax. My 1 story house in Louisiana was (a little) cheaper than my Texas 2 story house. But the Louisiana house was 2.5 times the land size.

Alright I'm going to break character here and admit it

No. It's a meme we made up to scare /tv/ with greentext stories, because it sows terror in the heart of communities full of loners like 4chan

Much like Penis Inspection Day we make up stories about being arrested or publicly shamed for doing things alone by Normie Police

It's the American in-joke equivalent of Aussie drop-bears or something
