Pretty good map for an oversimplification. Iowa should be yellow but other than that it'd alright.
Ideally, you'd have more categories so that Kentucky and Illinois wouldn't be grouped in as Northern "Yankee" states. Though they're more Northern states than they are Southern or Western, neither are distinctly "Yankee" in the same way Connecticut or Massachussetts are. Kentucky would be in the "Appalachia/East Central" region alongside West Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, and arguably Virginia (Virginia is weird so it's hard to say). Illinois obviously would be in the rust belt alongside Indiana and Ohio. Oh, and Missouri is a really weird one to categorize: if there were more than three categories, I'd put it in "Central Plains" with Kansas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. Putting it in one of the three is hard to do for this reason. Some might also want to differentiate the parts of the South (deep south versus outskirts AKA Mason Dixie's grundle), but that's not as paramount as dividing your blue category.
Tl;dr, pretty good for 3 categories.

RUS - is a core part of russia inhabited by native russians.
