It depends on whether you believe the ends justify the means. In hind sight I think it was wrong to use, because of the lasting effects afterwards. The fact that nuclear usage is seen as such a no-no today supports that. We could nuke the middle east and N Africa too and pretty much eradicate terrorism instead of endless unwinnable wars but that would never be acceptable.
War was very cruel back then though. Collateral was not taken into account.
I don't think the Americans usage of the nuke was entirely noble. There were politics involved. Frankly I'm glad that America rebuilt the nation and it seems Japanese generally don't resent us for it, more so resenting their own government over how things went.
Just my opinion though. No one really knows the dynamics of the very complicated issue.

World War II was a total war, the Imperial Japan did horrible things and was ready to use all of its population to fight your troops. You just had to do it to save lives in the both camps.
