Why has advancement in technology and change in society slowed down so much since the first half of the 20th century? The top pic from 50 years ago looks like an slightly dated version of our world and 100 years ago is like a whole different world
it actually accelerated, but it's less obvious. Things like graphene or super computers were unthinkable 50 years ago
more from 50 now than 50 - 100

Most of our tech advancements have been digital
A single iphone today has more computing power than the entire world combined 50 years ago

most tech advances were more or less consequences of major theoretical advances in physics and chemistry from 1900-1930s.
physics and chemistry have drastically slowed down, there hasn't been a major breakthrough or revolution in theoretical physics for a while. all the tech you get in the 40s, 50s, 60s and so-on were products of this revolution.
physics, chemistry and hard sciences is a stagnating field, the major discoveries in science now are in biology and we are going to soon get shit like bio-engineering, artificial organisms, genetic engineering and so-on. will be wonderous.

physics is stagnating because we have theoretically far exceeded what we can prove with current technology. Physics only advance now when new tech is developed. That wasn't at all the case in the days of Einstein, rutherford and so on.

2006 was 10 years ago m8 wtf are you on about?
WWII provided a huge technology leap in a short time we wouldn't have gotten otherwise. We'd only be at a 1960s technology level now without the war having happened.

Bottom picture is so much clearer.
Why did the world regress?
