Nursing homes are damn expensive and have a lot of activities for older people, as well as 24/7 medical staff on standby in case of any problems.
If you have enough resources to put them in a home that would actually be ideal for everyone, especially if they're too old to care for themselves anymore.
I don't know about here, but I'm sure European nursing homes are especially wonderful, perhaps surrounded by nature and lakes.
I really don't understand the bad image they get, but I've no experience with one, I suppose.

I've been to a few different ones. Some were okay, but one was really depressing (it was specifically for people with advanced dementia though, and it felt like most of them were just waiting to die).
