Dunno, though Abe's trying to amend the constitution, even if it fails, there would be still a considerable amount of assets.
Pic is a bit obsolete (current cap is 22 submarines, 62 heavy combat vessels, 6 helicopter carriers). The JMSDF also has loads of P-3C maritime patrol (70+, which are being replaced with brand new P-1) and 80+ anti-sub helicopters. As for the JASDF, there would be mainly 13 fighter squadrons consist of F-15, F-35 and F-2 (domestic made F-3 stealth fighter is also being developed).
The UK vs Japan would be interesting because both are island nations that focus on naval/air assets while UK tries to have balanced ones that enables them to invade distant places while the JSDF is a pure ship/submarine killer to repel invaders in the domain.

To summarise, Japan has a military organised around defence while the British military is designed to attack. While Japan has more assets they're difficult to use for attacking. For example, 22 submarines but no SSNs. 6 helicopter carriers but no fixed-wing aircraft carriers. However IMO Japan is almost impossible to invade because of its large defensive military.
BTW the image I posted earlier does not show total number of assets for the UK in 2025. E.g., it says 2 F-35 squadrons which = 24 jets. But by 2025 the UK will have over 40 F-35s in service. The units shown in the table are the frontline units.

to be honest, they often let guests do that on purpose (i guess) in joint drills. japan did that many times as well and a submarine even surfaced next to their carrier once, which is way worse than just getting hit by torpedoes. probably, it's an entertainment and also a trick to gather guests' kill patterns.

Ayyy, I was actually a part of 2014.
International rivalry was high for grunts and POGs, but for some reason, SEALS and MARSOC and all those other operators got along just fine with the SAS and Spetnaz and shit. It was weird, they didn't need to wag their dicks around or anything. I always thought they'd be the most competitive out of all of us, but in general, they seemed relatively...relaxed. My theory is that since Spec Ops tend to be SO ELEET, they tend not to have anything to prove, so they don't bother with showing off.
Anyways, it was pretty fun. Just fucked around at the local Starbucks while empty casings at each other. Would do again.
