I used to work in a clothing company as a vendor, 6 days a week, from 9 am to 10 pm. The store closed at 8pm but you have to stay because you need to do inventory, move shit around, fucking clean (because they don't hire anyone to do that), etc. Of course, those extra hours of work weren't considered at all in your payment.
You can't even sit down for some minutes while you are at it because it is not allowed. You have to clean the windows, arrange the mannequins, and be a security guard at the same time (because they also don't hire those), because whenever someone stole something they discounted it from everyone's paycheck, so they never lose money no matter what. All while you needed to sell at least 300,000 pesos of mercancy a month if you wanted a decent commision (3%).
You have to work on holidays, you have to work on christmas, you have to work on New Year.
They give you one fucking week of vacations a year.
Some people there have not taken vacations in over 3 years because you lose money if you are not selling anything.

Volkswagen has factories in Mexico and in Germany. A German factory worker makes on average $40 per hour. A Mexican factory worker putting together the same type of car makes $8 per hour. While Mexico is cheaper than Germany, it's only about 1/3rd as cheap to live in as Germany, but Mexicans make 5 times less, therefore for a Mexican worker will actually have to work harder and longer hours if he wants to live well. Germans can also slack off if they actually want to because they have a certain amount of job security. Mexicans will get fired and know there are literally millions of workers lined up behind them willing to work hard for that $7 per hour.

That's not really true. The Mexican government is actually pretty competent at getting industries set up. They're like brown Japs in that regard. They know industrialization and increasingly advanced labor creates stability and makes them look good for reelection. Mexico's major issues is the gigantic wealth gap between urban and rural areas. Despite some cities in Mexico hitting near first world status you just need to travel like 2km outside of a city to see third world living conditions. Some bigger cities also have urban poor people living in peripheral zones on the outskirts of cities comprised of poor rural people who have moved to major cities seeking work. This is worst in parts of Mexico State and Chihuahua.

In a ideal world that would be the case, however you have to remember nepotism rules and extremely common n third world workplaces. No one is getting fired if they are close to bosses, even if they are total fuck up. Where as in non-shitty western workplaces, people get promoted based on qualifications and performance because picking a fuck up employee will costs the business millions.

In Mexico drones are kept far away from management staff. It may work like that in China but Mexico doesn't function that way in factory settings unless you're already in management staff. People at the top fire people at the drop of a hat.

Also parttime work is extremely populair in both Germany and the Netherlands, which skews the numbers a bit.
How many hours you work is irrelevant, it's all about the results and Germany has better results than Mexico.
