I sometimes honestly wonder if the Russian people would actually benefit a lot from Russia breaking up into smaller pieces. Smaller regional states are a lot easier to govern. I understand that sounds very much like something a "dumb Western anti-Russian imperialist" would say, but I don't think it's that bad an idea. Being the world's largest country in size means you're a lot more prone to corruption and poor management all across the board. Russia is simply too big to function properly, I think. It's nothing short of a miracle it hasn't already crumbled. Modern-day Russia just seems like a really unnatural state, if I'm being honest. A whole bunch of different people who don't really get along that were conquered by Peter the Great and were forced to cooperate under Soviet rule... not exactly the key ingredients for a harmonious society.
