I grew up in California of all places and my family still went to a real church.
It was Episcopal (Anglican after the whole gay thing schism) and the architecture was that of old, traditional churches, with bricks, arches, stained glass, courtyards, etc. The hymms were traditional, no projector and screen for sing-along lyrics, but instead hymnals in every pew. Communion involved wafers and actual wine, with the congregants ushered up from their pews in an orderly fashion to kneel before the altar and be served by the priest, the deacon, and lead acolyte.
That being said, at the other end of town is an intersection with a megachurch on each corner.

I declared I was no longer going to mass when I was 16/17 and quit. I was usually too hungover too.
