Reflashed BIOS. Reinstalled Windows 10. Too afraid to check if he still has remote access. Just thinking of disconnecting the laptop from the Internet until I finish my manuscript.

If ANYONE has physical access to your computer, it's never safe.
Not even UNIX systems are safe, hell they have a single user mode which gives root access to anyone who can reboot the machine
