Ours can be similar to that except with Butter/Ham/Flamengo Cheese instead of Presunto/Jamon. That's more for a mid-afternoon snack. Same goes for jam. That latte is often replaced with an espresso, but those lattes with proper coffee in a cold morning are divine.

We do that olive oil thing when tasting freshly made olive oil, but not daily, and certainly not on breakfast.
We do spam our bacalhau with olive oil, and in the end we sponge-clean excess from the dish with bread, so we do it the other way around, I guess. Always at dinner too, though, never at breakfast.
Tomatoes everywhere is what we use to mock your food, though. I like tomatoes, but there is such a thing as too much. We also use a lot more pepper and spices than you guys, since we had monopoly over the Indian trade, and our food is generally more varied.

By bland I mean not salty or low-salt. There's a Portuguese word for it, "insosso", but google translated to "wishy-washy" which is definitely not it. A lot of southern Europe countries have different meal structures than the English/American.
Because of the hot weather when 99% of the population were farmers (pre-industrial farms, with hoes and shovels), we had to stop work at lunch-time not to dehydrate/burn up. The Spanish probably had it the hottest so they have to go to sleep, even.
Tradition stuck, so we have bigger lunch breaks with bigger lunches, and the day typically either starts sooner and/or ends later. This way we don't need breakfast to hold until dinner with the lunch-boost in the middle. The lunch IS the big meal of the morning and breakfast is just something to wake up to and give some energy until noon. It's not uncommon for manual labour workers to eat a sandwich or something between breakfast and lunch as well, or something between lunch and dinner (which we also eat a lot later than you). Our dinners are smaller than yours too.
It's more quantity-balanced throughout the day, and makes use of the Mediterranean cuisine, which supposedly is one of the healthiest.
