Scotland-Mixed Feelings due to most of the country being leftists from Edinburgh who are now a far cry from the actual scottish in terms of their culture and are basically just english with an accent. Gaelic parts which have kept their culture and way of life are fucking god tier though

Small country, small population. It's why we never colonised a lot, and had trouble defending what we did. Also baaaaad investments of money, mostly on cathedrals and ephemeral goods.
We were known for having really fucking high KDR in battles (see pic), but there's a limit to the human capacity, so we spread ourselves too thin.
So, we signed a treaty (of Tordesillas) with the Spanish to colonize between Brazil and India, and they had the right to the rest (most of America), so we only settled a couple of fishing posts. Africa was valuable for slaves and diamonds, but more importantly gave us a way of avoiding the Silky Road jews and generate money.
Then the Spanish got hold of our throne for like 80 years through marriage, and we started losing battles to the Brits (our oldest allies, ffs) and Dutch, and by the time we got our independence back it was too late, and the Brits got everything from the Spaniards. That made us miss the industrial revolution until it was too late, and you know the rest.
Also, all non-European Portuguese language sounds weird, so you're probably better off. English is much simpler, and you can tell English-speaking kids dominate their language much sooner than Romance languages.

Heh, I'm all for learning European Portuguese, regardless where you're from. It is harder and almost useless, since everyone below 40 here speaks English. I've never seen an Anglophone catch the 'r's quite right, since they are softer than the French, but harsher than the Spanish, and not fake 'r's like in English.
I do think it is a beautiful language, and props for going for authenticity. We have a lot of interesting but untranslated literature, since we had a lot of poets, that foreigners will never appreciate because of the entrance barrier. Songs too.
