Lo más peligroso son muchos de los barrios de Iztapalapa (no hay nada aún así), Nezahualcoyotl (es Edolex, pero esta pegado), Ecatepec y hay otros barrios así feos, que te das cuenta con verlos, gallinas en la calle, casas de ladrillo.
Puedes ir también al bosque de Chapultepec, no se sí haya carteristas, el centro de Coyoacan dónde están todos los hipsters, el centro de San Miguel de Allende, son zonas históricas los dos, lago Xochimilco, Santa Fé tiene muchas cosas modernas, un centro comercial enorme y varios restaurantes buenos.

Siempre, SIEMPRE, todos los mexicanos, sin importar estado o ciudad, diremos que donde nosotros estamos "No es tan peligroso", que "lo peligroso" es en la capital, si eres de la capital dirás que en los estados del norte, si eres de los estados del norte dirás que solo en la frontera, si eres de la frontera dirás que en realidad los peligrosos son los estados del sur, si eres del sur dirás que la capital es lo realmente peligroso.
Para nosotros los problemas son de alguien más, nunca de nosotros.
Habiendo dicho esto, evade estos 4 estados:
Tamaulipas
Guerrero (Si te ves forzado a ir a Acapulco, no salgas de la zona hotelera de 5 estrellas)
Veracruz
Oaxaca (no tanto por inseguridad sino por un problema político que te impedirá ver cualquier cosa interesante, pero las playas estan bien por el momento).
En todos los demás: Suponiendo que eres algo y rubio, mucha gente se te acercará hablando en ingles pidiendote dinero. Tu posición como turista de delatara: Quizás no te roben, pero si te cobrarán el doble pues asumirán que tienes dinero (y tienen cierta razón, con 10 Euros puedes comer básicamente en cualquier restaurante).
Toma precauciones, no confies en nadie que quiera ayudarte pues al final te pedirá dinero (aun que igual con medio Euro se darán por bien servidos,así que tu eliges) y de preferencia no lleves cámaras o artículos electrónicos especialmente caros.
Deja tu pasaporte en el Hotel, algunos tienen cajas fuertes ya sea en las habitaciones o en los lobies y lleva tu credencial de estudiante (si tienes) como identificación.
Hay otras cosas que dependen del lugar pero ésto es lo general.
