Just the usual, Joyce's Portrait, Gone in the Wind (probably the first book in English I gave up on midway, primarily because I first read it when I barely knew a lick of English). Otherwise I've read some biographies that sort of wing into the genre - see Monk's bio of Wittgenstein, for example, and others I can't remember.
I'm looking through my folders and can't seem to conclude whether or not the last thing I leafed through is a bildungsroman or just a novel, but it's really impressive. Sources tell me it is in fact the first modern Arabic novel. Its title translates over to: "Leg over Leg: On What is the Faryaq." (Faryaq is the protagonist) by one Ahmad Faris Shidyaq, got the rec off the web. I've been looking all over for a decent Arabic novel that DOES NOT set in FUCKING MANHATTAN over a few glasses of champagne, this was a nice relief.
My ideas for books are either surreal, avant-garde or just plain inanity, can't tell. What about you?

While I agree that most ideas have been already used and that, while I read a new book, I see an idea used, that I had in my mind and get thus also a bit frustrated, there is still something not satisfying in post-modern literature. I am missing big figures, something genious, outstanding. It just seems to be a gray mass to me made up of ridicilous self consciousness, failed love lifes or other things which are, more or less, superficial presented.
