Socially, yes. Economically, no. We'd see net increases in both economies, the only problem is we'd have to gut Northern Ireland of public sector jobs but with access to the EU and our tax rate, their economy would soon adjust.
It would hurt for 4-5 years, we'd take on debt, but we'd also have a much larger GDP and population.
The guise of the EU would force practicality on even the most ardent Unionists and remove the tribalist sting from a border poll. It wouldn't reignite the troubles and it wouldn't destroy our economy.
Even an independent Northern Ireland (had like 20% of Unionists supporting it when Paisley was around iirc) in the EU would further the process of unification tbf. If we're both just cogs in the European machine, then sooner or later SF will get into power up North and we will have a sneaky vote and bing bang boom, job done.
