I'm an engineer but ok.

Intelligent people are almost always educated but intelligence is pretty inherent. You're either smart or you're not, learning a lot can make you smarter but Einstein was born smart. Fuckers who get a master's degree in women's studies aren't smart. I'd argue they're actually really dumb.

That's obviously nonsense. Even if you take the view that intelligence is innate and education doesn't CAUSE intelligence, you still have to be smarter to make your way through university. University might be just a way of sorting people by intelligence, but someone with a PhD is still going to be a lot smarter on average than someone who didn't finish high school.

Do you understand that: ''intelligence is inherent'', and ''people who hold high levels of educational attainment are on average more intelligent than those who don't'' aren't mutually exclusive statements?
>>
>>61207569
Depends really on what they go for.

Learning a bunch of bullshit for 8 years is what I'd call a total waste of time and money. Learning astrophysics or nuclear engineering or brain surgery is a pretty good way to spend 8 years though.
>>
I lost all faith in "the educated people will fix it!" meme when Ivy League grads and the philosophy that those on Wall Street were so smart they could easily regulate themselves...resulted in the 2008 Financial Crisis
>>
>>61207459
Well, no, see the left and right wings have no direct bearing on democracy. As a rule, democracy is associated with centrism and its off-centre neighbours. You can have right wing governments that oppose democracy just like how you can have left wing governments that oppose democracy.
>>
>>61207731
Well just because you're smart and well educated doesn't mean you're good at making decisions. Political dogma can very much get in the way of practicality and knowledge and lead to fucking up everything long term for a short term goal.
>>
>>61207764
Yes, but in Western democracies the trend has been towards liberal politics for the last 40 years so it's more prominent in the discussion
>>
>>61207695
Nope, I guarantee you that if you took a group of University graduates in any subject, and compared them to a random group that didn't attend University; the Uni grads would be smarter. IQ test them. The engineering grads would probably have higher average IQs than the sociology grads, but the non-University group would be lower than both

The point remains that most of the justification for deregulation of the American finance industry came from the meme that all those Ivy League grads and quants flocking to finance meant that there was little need for any oversight or regulation because "Dude, everyone involved is just such a fucking a whiz kid that there won't be any problems brah"

The truly intelligent and properly educated people in the UK are from families that have been around for centuries. Those people choose to leave the EU because they want to see Britannia return to her former glory and know that remaining part of a cancerous union designed to destroy the great nations of Europe can offer nothing good.
The children who were raised by liberal teachers and media are the ones choosing to remain because they believe nationalism is the root of all evil.

The thing is we're reaching the point where irreversible climate change is beginning to set in, so we don't have the luxury of gradually shifting our economy. Both choices involve economic catastrophe, but only one involves massive environmental destruction.

Gender studies is very impractical but not worthless. The education provided offers a pretty important understanding of the history and nuances of gender, which anybody who wishes to enter a field directly relating to gender must understand.

The people who take those courses tend to be a little fanatical, but an uneducated person is substantially more ignorant the someone with a gender studies degree.

How deluded do you have to be to believe a piece of paper allows you to think on your own? That's what formal education is, a piece of paper, it gives you no inherent knowledge of politics and does in no way give you the ability to judge things better than anyone else.

Liberals are pushing for a shutdown of both nuclear and fossil fuels.

Looking forward to you showing me an actual high profile liberal politician saying something like that about GMOs, and by high profile I mean as high profile as a presidential candidate of burgerland with nearly 50% approval saying that vaccines cause autism.

Higher education means fuck all, most people at uni do BA in English, Art, Sport, Gender Studies or some other stupid shit you can get jobs with in the real world. I know loads of people who went to rolls Royce with apprenticeships to make jet engines, which wont be classed as higher education.

Also most leave will be older people who have skilled jobs which didn't used to need degrees for everything. I mean you need a degree to work in Tesco's now.

What a joke. & FYI I got a good degree in Engineering at a red brick uni and voted out. Have fun bailing out the shit countries and ultimately the collapse the EU (especially if it works out well for the UK).

a piece of paper you've earned after years of study in your field of interest, unless we're talking about meme courses like feminism 101 you learn some basic things no matter what you study and one of these is questioning yourself. Now this is important when it comes to situations like this: if you can question yourself chances are you're gonna put some more thought into who you're voting for.

If we want to keep it down to earth then yes, especially if the other side is a very general "immigrants=bad EU=bad"

>a piece of paper you've earned after years of study in your field of interest,
It's still just a piece of paper. You get the same working in a specific field for years. For fucks sake our ex-prime minister (unelected at that) could barely speak English and she's highly educated, yet at the same time you can't even pass elementary school without passing English classes. Half the degrees out there are useless by this point.

Even in our family, there's two examples like that, my borthers wife-highly educated-works as a glorified secretary. My older brother has his own company, only had elementary school when he founded it, finished high school on the side, earns more than my dad. My dad, who's one of the few people in the country in his field, both highly educated formally and informally, earns 1500€-2000€ a month.

>and one of these is questioning yourself.
Really now? You need colledge to question yourself?

>unless we're talking about meme courses like feminism 101
Half the degrees are useless shit by now. No surprise half the population goes to colledge and there's an over abundance of educated people without jobs. Shit like economists that end up working as a bank teller or literally graduates that end up as secretaries. Especially Social science degrees that half the population picks up and literally include commie propaganda in the curriculum.

No wonder then that these "educated" people vote for literal communists in election. A point you keep skiddding aside. There's no way you can convince me in any shape or form that somehow formal education makes you smarter or indeed makes you a better judge of politics.

If that was the actual case the party with the highest % of people with higher education would not be communists. Period.

>and what would it be then? Tories (that have won) or maybe UKIP (kek)? Or maybe the LibDems (lmao)?
I'm talking in our specific case, tard.

In Slovenia, the United Left, literally has the highest percentage of people with higher education. Thus disproving your entire point out of hand. Unles, that is, you think Communists are smart and rational people that don't vote with their gut feelings in which case you should be sent to an institution.

1 your first point makes no sense, filtering your feelings through your brain in order to make the most rational decision possible is important and should be an essential component in every democracy and this is taught in pretty much every university. So probably an educated person is gonna think MORE about who they're voting for. If you think this is unsubstantiated I'm sorry but you must be blind, the number of uneducated people unable to justify who they're voting for in any way that isn't a slogan or something like X is bad is sky high.

Pretty convenient to use your own country as an example innit? I have no idea how it works, for all I know the opposition is made of complete retards and communists are in fact the lesser evil

Oh, you mean like all that gender identity crap and other non-issues coming from the universities today? Talk about shooting yourself in the leg. I vote for X cause gay rights. I vote for Y because female/sex/race representation, I vote for Z because C is homophobic, racist, islamophobic, etc.

>Pretty convenient to use your own country as an example innit? I have no idea how it works, for all I know the opposition is made of complete retards and communists are in fact the lesser evil
Yes, it's pretty convenient, and pretty unconvenient for you as you have no way to rationalize it so once again you're going with your gut feeling, exactly what you claim the "uneducated" do.

Again, for all I know thy're claiming that just to catch as many votes as possible and don't intend to enforce any anti-capitalist laws, I do not know your system and I have no intention of judging it. If you think I'm thinking with my guts you're wrong

As for the other thing, we're talking about probabilities, nothing scientific and from my experience educated people tend not to reduce everything to oversimplified issues. Of course there plenty exceptions on both sides but you get the jist m8

But you are, your entire premise is based on guts and feelings.

>As for the other thing, we're talking about probabilities, nothing scientific
Probabilities are math, math is scientific. You're basing your judgment on nothing but your gut feeling. Your assumptions are that X is more likely to Y without anything backing it up.
